Highdays, so sorry to read about your grandson losing his friend. & is aware.....
1. Tewkesbury Abbey, as recommended by Frith. Needed much, much more time, so will definitely revisit, sooner rather than later. Marvelled at the heat pushed out by the amazing old Gurney Stoves.
2. Centering Prayer service there at 16h. Helpful, still, perfect before another hairy drive back.
3.Managed &bed by 2am, with hwb.💓
4. Midweek Communion this morning after long, lovely hot, HOT home shower.
5. Letter rescinding erroneously issued parking ticket. Just as well......🤬

Sorry to hear your news, Highways.
Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep. Realised I've been from BST, GMT, CET then back to GMT over the past few weeks.
2) Took some boots back to a charity shop. I wouldn't normally ask for a refund but they were £25.
3) Wanted to give the car a long run to charge the battery but had to stop because someone had broken down in the middle of a big junction, in canal town. 2 men also pushed the car so it was soon dealt with.
4) Went to Waitrose for a cup of tea and to do the crossword.
5) Finally bought a new baby present for my nephew and ordered a present for my niece. And got dad's birthday present and some shortbread for next door for feeding the cat.
6) Made venison burgers for lunch for smaller son, who is still a bit ill.
7) Hoovered the whole house, tidied up then cleaned the hall floors.
8) Made a salmon tray bake for tea.6 -
I actually think I slept reasonably well by my shocking standards. Still up early but didn’t have the wide awakes in between.
Work this morning. Meeting family. And home…to find a very naughty dog had burst open a big parcel my sister had sent here for niece and family. I hadn’t even considered it may have edible contents! They were eaten. Going for a watch and wait approach rather than a dash to vets approach. So therefor I had a quiet afternoon. Watched a nice Christmas movie.Pup dropped off.Had to drive into town but parked on outskirts as we have so many roadworks just now it’s gridlock at 5pm. I do not like driving in the dark but had new yellow lenses over my glasses which actually did cut down the glare.DD2 and The Chap had been out for dinner so brought home ice cream. Had a wee tub of vanilla. It is so wild and windy just now. I am not putting my bins out till the morning! They’ll be blown away!5 -
so sorry to read your news @Highdays
5 pleasures from my day
1) my dog - he is rather silly and sometimes a bit smelly but he makes me smile
2) my gbf - not smelly but also rather silly - he has 'made' an advent calendar for the dog by opening up a chocolate advent calendar, eating all the chocolates (a hard sacrifice i'm sure!) filling with dog treats, sliding the tray back in the box and sealing up 🤣🐶💌
3) my Dean - he gave a brilliant presentation on his vision for our future and I feel we are in safe hands
4) work colleagues - after the presentation I went with one of them for a coffee and of course a reflection on our dean's presentation
5) cathedral choir - 2 hours' solid work, not surprisingly lots of advent and Christmas stuff.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

That is so sad about your Grandson’s friend Highdays
For yesterday,
Into horsey town for a quick shop and then a coffee with my friend.
Home, change and over to see the beautiful grey one. The sun was shining but boy was the wind blowing out in the paddocks, she was warm enough in her rug.Have been listening to a podcast series about paganism and the history of witchcraft, most interesting.
An afternoon at home so a few chores then settled down with my book.
Capt S was out at a latish meeting so he picked me up on way home and we had the treat of a meal out at the village pub, the fire was lit and they had decorated for the festive season. We had a lovely evening and beloved was chuffed with the free bottle of Rioja that was part of the deal.7 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went to the coffee morning and did the crossword.
3) Popped to Sainsbury's afterwards to buy the Christmas Eve jumpers in the sale. Also bought Advent calendars.
4) Tidied up a bit and smaller son took his bedroom curtains down for washing.
5) Made meatballs wraps for tea.
6) Got nothing to do this evening except watch television and have a mince pie.6 -
I caught a cheeky antivirus subscription renewing over a month before it was due, so I rigmarole via chat and hopefully got a full refund. My fault for forgetting to turn off the auto-renewal but still taking it before it was due was rather disconcerting.
I meal planned for the week ahead, and for today it’s a comforting and one of DH’s favourites pasta bake.
We had what I can only call a mini emergency, which resulted in me very loudly informing the world we were on fire. It’s amazing what the mind does rapidly, I was cooking 2 burgers under the grill, and a bit it sparked up and then into the grill and caught, what I was not prepared for is how fast it went up. Thankfully I guess the grill and the oven had only just been cleaned by me in the morning so it kind of flashed and went up on me getting the grill out, but ate the tea towel I put over it , DH then threw it into the sink on a do or die, and I was just about to unleash the fire towel we have while also wondering how fast I could call 999 when it went out. It did make me realise just how unprepared we might be for an emergency. But it’s always going to depend on where it starts.
It was one of those days, I thought I’ll just get some raisins out which led me to tidying up nearly all the cupboards to finally declare I’ve used them all. But it led onto cleaning up various things as it needed doing.
Clearing bits from the freezers this time Cornish pasties, cooked up for lunch, and tonight’s dinner is corned beef hash.
We popped out for the above raisins and self-raising flour, and happened to be at the right time for the meat 75 percent off, the freezer is happy.

Hello. Almost bedtime…doggy and I have been up since 2am…however he’s had many snoozette since ( he’s currently snoring next to me)
Decided it wasn’t worth heading back upstairs as we’d be back outside again and again! We were…much sickage!Chat to friend first thing.Had to nip to supermarket for chicken for said dog’s meals! Then sat down to write and write and write. Lovely service written but I will go and read it with the family rather than emailing it over.Popped into town ( and bah at all the Friday traffic…school finishes early on a Friday and we have huge roadworks in the middle of town that are just one big gridlock) to go and see a sofa in furniture charity shop…decided against the one I thought I was after and settled on another one that was actually cheaper. So it’s coming tomorrow and they’ll take away old set that owe me no favours as they were second hand when I got them.So sofa and new to me leather recliner I got last week will go in their place. And then I’ll have room for a Christmas tree!Popped into town to Home bargains to get dehumidifier doodahs for caravan and oh my goodness it was so busy! Yuk! In and out once I got exactly what I was after…no mooching!Home. Hello dog. I am in for the day and not going back out!Pup had been dropped off so he was collected. Him and his doggy uncle were full of nonsense when DD2 came home.Just off phone to niece for a nice chat and multi-tasked and remade my bed! It was so windy today and forecast to be dry till mid afternoon so I stripped the bed whilst on the phone to friend this morning and remade it whilst on phone again! A woman of talent 😆
Bought a very RTC bunch of festive foliage this morning in supermarket so that’s all nicely in a vase and in the upstairs bathroom. As you do!Work stuff all away for the weekend.Sat and wrote my Christmas cards. I still like to send and receive them.Wearing my new to me festive jumper! And will probably wear the other one tomorrow! It’s that time of year! It’s still absolutely wild weather. Has been so windy. My garden sofas had shifted across the patio.5 -
