5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Pleasures for today (Thursday)
Shocking sinusitis continues but...
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Drove to Worcester and saw all the bloody silly St George's flags cable tied to every lamppost on the approach. By the time I drove home, they had all been removed! A few silly flags by us and the 2 mini roundabouts also roughly graffitied with a red cross. I will purposefully drive over them in future, to wear the paint off.
3) Went to the Colombian cafe then to Waitrose for the free paper to do the crossword.
4) Went to Halfords for a new air filter. Fitted that and it has really made a difference.
5) Went to salt town to watch our women's football team and 3 pillocks were putting up flags on the main road there. As smaller son said, "oh, 3 bright orange men with very short, fat legs. Who would have guessed?"
Our team scored 2 goals in the last 5 minutes to equalise.

Glad to climb into my bed!
Up early.Went into town and got parked for free. Nipped down to M&S for a few things. Then in to workplace to pick up a gift that had been kindly handed in for me. A card with lovely words and a beautiful orchid. Quick chatter and another service booked in.Quick supermarket visit, got a few things RTC for freezer.Home. Grabbed a doggy and off we went to CP. Lovely walk. The dog had so much sniffing to catch up on.Niece and her husband popped in to see me. Which was nice. And then DD2 was deposited with her dog by The Chap. To be cared for …he’s just picked her back up ! Tag team! She managed to have a big sleep which I’m glad she did. I sat on my balcony reading for a bit then came in and read /snoozed/read. Woke her up to have some tea…crusty bread and sausages. Doggy walk and then home.Had a work call to make arrangements to meet new family next week…which means I have a work free weekend!Chat to friend on phone. Caught up on each others news.Dark so early! A couple of stars peeking through cloud on our late night wander.9 -
For yesterday,
As Amps said a much cooler day and I was glad of my cardigan as well.
Quick trip into horsey town to pick up newly washed & reproofed turnout rug, it’s a light one for autumn but at least now it will keep the rain off, when we get some!
Popped C dog into car and drove to farm shop to meet young friend for lunch, much much busier than last time with lots of small people running around and a number of other dogs, two of which barked at her as we walked in but our girl dealt with it all and was happy to receive a piece of chicken from my salad in thanks.
Home, left C dog with her Dad and off to see my other girl. She was still out and was happy to see me walking out to the paddocks. Bit of work done and then left with large hay net.
A dear friend whose husband had a heart attack last week reported that he was much better.7 -
Morning all.
Feeling somewhat 'fragile' today - and not in a hungover way, just a bit depleted and not sure why. I don't like it, normally pretty upbeat so will just go with the flow and wait for it to pass.
Some pleasures:
1) Out yesterday for a tour of a near-ish Historic House. Lovely hall and gardens in a beautiful setting. There was a wedding in the church next door and the bride and groom had some photos taken in the sunshine by the lake.
2) On my brother's recommendation we treated ourselves to some very expensive new insulated beakers for our picnic cuppas. They work, our drinks were still hot at the end of the day and they will pay for themselves very quickly in savings on bought drinks when we are out and about.
3) For ages I've been wanting to do something with some of my bits of inherited jewellery as they're not to my taste. In the courtyard yesterday there some small studios, one of which was a jeweller who had some lovely very modern pieces and also takes commissions. Making an appointment to take all my bits and bobs to see what she suggests, I'm not a jewellery sort of person as a rule but I think she 'got' me so it will be interesting to see what she can suggest.
4) Looks like the weather will be warming up for the bank holiday but I've been enjoying the autumnal feel in the air. Love September, it's just come round very quickly!
5) We've had a full on week so looking forward to a quieter weekend at home as we tend not to go far on bank holidays. Will do what I do best - pootling and pottering, and maybe a bit of time in my summerhouse enjoying the quiet pleasures of crafting and reading to soothe my soul and pop me back on my perch.
Hope you have a good one, whatever you are up to and enjoy the long weekend.

Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Coffee morning and one of our number returned after radiotherapy. Nice to see her.
3) Tidied up a bit.
4) Went to our football ground to watch Wolves v Stoke under 21s.
5) My brother's friend scored a try in the rugby for England!
6) Sainsbury's order arrived at the same time as a large hornet.7 -
Morning all from the lovely Cotswolds 😊
We’re here for the week having secured a booking at Jeremy Clarkson’s Farmers Dog pub for last night, which happened to be our 23rd anniversary (of our first date) and deciding to make a week of it 🤣 We’re staying in a lovely quirky converted barn and had a fabulous evening at the pub last night, watching the sunset over beautiful countryside, buying goodies in the shop and enjoying a delicious meal on the terrace. It was great 😊. We’re looking forward to exploring one of our favourite areas and enjoying some other great pubs.In other news, my house has an offer on it, which I’ve accepted in the first week it went on the market, so we’re off down to the coast when we’re back next Saturday to see if we can secure our dream bungalow for our retirement.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.8 -
We have had a hornet around all summer Frith and it’s been in the house a few times, me not like.
Looks lovely PaulieH and many congratulations on selling your house so quickly.
For yesterday,
Cold start, the season is definitely turning.
A lovely morning spent with my friend, she met me at the yard for equine cuddles and we sat in girlie’s field for a while having a good natter.
Then we decamped to nearby village whose post office has a cafe attached that sells the best cake & coffee, we sat outside in the sunshine and did more nattering. We were at the previous yard together and I do miss her.
Might not be a huge pleasure but I did sort my car insurance out, current provider had increased by 15% so that was an immediate no! All sorted now.
Chicken pie and veg for tea.6 -
Rant at Trumpington emporium manager re: 2 nonsensical Britannia Parking unsolicited invoices, 1 and 8 July, found with junk mail at &squat. Corrected his poor attempts to know better. With 18-hr free P+R virtually alongside, why on earth did he imagine & was parked there, during 2 Tuesday training nights when & is busy at rugby club until 22h or thereabouts? Checked their personnel out - a Tory MP, a former football referee, a Belgian CEO of 4 defunct clothing sweatshop companies.
That aside -
1. Currently in The Alma, awaiting next🏉with landlord D, starts after 22h.😁 We'll be watching, alone sans doute. Enjoyed the & Alma treat to self, onion rings merlot and big water.
2. 4 yr-old birthday boy's bundle left for discovery chez grand'mère.
3. 'They fit!' msgd friend -
Will work out how to post pic.
4. En route to 2, large deer popped up in wheat stubble to my left, then jumped down into sludgy blackberry ditch. Quickly attempted pic, but too late - in there somewhere very close.
5. Same 'too late' for woodpecker on &'s sessile oak this morning. Noisy boy, a very busy Greater Spotted.
5. Have settled for embroidering bride and groom's initials low down on corners of a pair of (supremely expensive silk velvet)cushions, from ykw. Will couch the traditional bits between them, before doing up with gauze ribbon. Definitely ok.👍CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Evening all.
Ooh, Paulie, exciting times ahead for you with an imminent house move. Best thing we ever did as we started our retirement was to move and downsize to what we refer to as our 'holiday home' as it feels just like being on a permanent holiday - decluttered, easy to run, future proof as we are all on one level, what's not to like! Hope the sale goes smoothly and you are soon moved and enjoying coastal living.
1) Warmer today though still cloudy, tomorrow is looking good so provisional plans confirmed to go to one of our outdoor summer concerts with a picnic. Lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon and I think this is the last one of the summer season for this year.
2) Pretty lazy day today, didn't feel like doing much so I didn't! Read the papers and my book all afternoon, easy tea from the freezer, perfect.
3) Hubby was able to fix a car problem for my bairn, good job he is capable and practically minded.
4) Great granddaughter - 8 months old now - is coming to visit on Monday, luscious baby cuddles will be had if she keeps still for long enough! And then we hand her back...
5) Thinking about Paulie's imminent move has reminded me what a pleasure it was for us to move and for hubby to finish work six years early. We've been all over and had so much fun, you never know what's around the corner so we try to make the most of every day we have, even if it's just to pootle and potter. Lots of things to do and lots of time to do them in, perfect!
Hope you are enjoying the holiday weekend and see some sunshine over the next day or two.6 -
Friday pleasures
Early start as per usual.
Did a little bit of work admin, prepped for next family.
Put stuff on Vinted…then headed off to the land time forgot…CP…where wifi is hit or miss. Where I am definitely miss! Forgot all about Vinted until I was at far end of driveway on dog walk and wifi reached my phone…ping ping ping. All these blooming messages would I take less for this one specific green top…eh no! I’ve just posted it for sale today…sold two other items without haggling and then 40 saves on this green top! Would I take 40% less. No. Would I take 20% less. No. Would I reconsider their low offer if it didn’t sell over the weekend? No. So they finally spent the four pounds!!Anyway aside from that we had a nice overnight stay. Nice walks. Finished my book. Watched some Netflix on my phone. I have to download before I leave.
Had taken down clean bedding. Did my hoovering and washed floors. Cleaned outside windows ( up to where I could reach)
Early to bed…and early to rise! I’d set alarm to get up in time for sunrise but doggy needed out before then so we had a darkish start to our walk that got lighter. Just us and the birds. And came home about 11am this morning. Had to catch up on laundry. And had stripped my caravan bedding so that was an extra load.Cut the grass, first time in 3 weeks so it was needing it! My garden bin is very full, I’d thought it was due emptied last week but it’s next.Hoovered upstairs.Popped down to big supermarket. And then home bargains for envelope bags to send Vinted stuff away. So packed those when I got back. Met someone I knew so had a quick chat with them. And home again.Chat to friend on phone.7
