5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Frith

Quick pleasures for today (Sunday)

1) Not a bad sleep. 

2) 3rd shift done at work. Still stupid, with timings not changed despite staff and hours changing. One shift left until days off.

3) Went to the Foodshare and got lots of fruit and bread, 4 herb plants and a bunch of flowers! 

4) Sanded the table in the garage (here when we moved in) ready to put stuff on when it's my birthday party. I noticed it is army surplus and I said to smaller son that everyone's house had at least one piece of ex army furniture when I was growing up but you never see it these days. 

5) Cleaned 1000 fly mucks off the glass of the porch. 

6) Had pasta bake for tea then a large fruit salad. 

7) My brother had a tennis match this morning and his opponent died, on the court just before they started. No one could find the code for the defibrillator. Amazingly someone did CPR and he was making an effort by the time the paramedics got there and was improving just while they were getting him in the ambulance.

Hi everyone.

Back from our trip to Devon so just touching base, will catch up over the next day or so but so glad, Frith, it looks like your 7) may have a very positive outcome and how lucky that someone could act so quickly and save a life. Very humbling.

Recent pleasures:

1) Hard to believe how the weather has changed and now it is windy and raining, but we enjoyed a week of wall to wall sunshine, just amazing.

2) A fabulous cottage in a spectacular setting. Halfway through the week we booked for the same dates next year as we loved it so much, one of the nicest places we have every stayed either here or abroad. Well off the beaten track and the most gorgeous views, just perfect.

3) A huge pleasure to be back in beautiful Devon, revisiting some old haunts and discovering new ones. So much to do, the week went far too quickly. We have wonderful memories of amazing people and places - and the cream teas of course!

4) Partly because we weren't ready to come home just yet and partly to miss the horrid Bank Holiday Friday traffic, we decided to stay down there for a couple more days so decamped into a lovely hotel for a bit of pampering. Then had a clear run home with no traffic queues so will do the same next time too.

5) Always a big pleasure to be home and back in my own bed - and to the news that our third great granddaughter has arrived safely and all are well.

Hello a mix of Monday and Tuesday 

Much rain yesterday ( like so much /too much!!) 

Chat to sister in the morning. 

The return of a footstool! Hurrah! 

Work in the afternoon. 

Met an old school friend going to drop off some books…would I like a read of them? Oooh okay and then I’ll pass them on! 

Steak pie for tea…felt like autumn outside! 

Today 

went for a scone. 

Met a friend in supermarket and we ended up chatting for an hour! 

Other friend came round this afternoon.

Doggy a bit poorly…sick and limping but managed some chicken and rice for tea. 

Been a brighter day. Though not warm. 

Dinner from the freezer!

Have an amazing break Paulie.

We are back from an amazing weekend, we caught up with old friends and met new people.

It was lovely to relax and try cherry cider.

The museum has changed a tad but still had lots of offers and they serve a great cuppa and treacle tart.

It was a much-needed couple of days break.

 

Had a phone interview on the way back from the weekend which went all right.

Its raining so one wash load is hanging about the rest is strewn across the hallway, waiting for better climes.

I’m ordering in tonight as the rest of the week is using up bits and bobs bought back from the van.

The ferrets were all stars, here’s a photo of Fuse, who may have been taken out to enjoy himself a couple of times as he’s on borrowed time so making sure he enjoys every moment.

I filled up the bird feeders and the dove who I think is nesting in our palm tree, came straight down, introducing here 2 babies who make high-pitched noises that DH can’t hear.

Pleasures for today (Tuesday)

1) Not a bad sleep.

2) A day off work! Hoorah!

3) My brother came round for a cup of tea and to play darts with smaller son. 

4) Smaller son and I took all the bags of old dining room floor to the skip then had a sandwich and looked at the new houses built near Tesco in canal town. 

5) I texted the tiler who should be starting next Wednesday. 

6) Spent the afternoon reading newspapers and magazines. 

7) We went to the park to look at the new interpretation boards. 

8) Watched Who do You Think You Are?

Good morning.  Sunny again but we have had rain so the garden looks much brighter. And the weeds will be taking advantage!

A nice treat in BH Sunday.  Went with DD and DSiL  to a new-to-us Indian restaurant.  It was sort of tapas style so we ordered lots of different dishes and all had a bit of everything.  Absolutely delicious.

Yoga went ahead on BH Monday  She asked how many would want a class and we nearly all did so that was good.

And now DH has toothache.  Rang the dentist yesterday and no appointments.  Has to ring today at 9!  Not holding out much hope.  Salt water rinse and paracetamol keeping the worst of it at bay but it looks as if he'll have to ring 111 to get an appointment at the emergency clinic in town.  Our dentist changed hands during covid and the new ones seem only really interested in cosmetic dentistry!

So fish pie for tea yesterday - nothing hard or chewy - and it will be done mince thing today!

For the last few (?) days,

After needing rain for weeks we have had a decent amount and everything is looking much greener, apart from Princess Pony who is looking a particularly strange hue of dull orange after rolling in the sandy soil!

We did manage to get a decent amount done in the garden, still holding out on putting tomato plants in the veg planter though.

More videos of our prospective dog, she is now back at the nice shelter and improving daily. I did have a lump in my throat when they posted a video on the FB page of all the dogs catching the May happy bus but keeping everything crossed that ours will be on the June one.

Plans being made for a meet up with friends.

Spent yesterday with my brother, we went into Uni City to watch the new Wes Anderson film. Strange, as are all his films, but enjoyable all the same. We went in on the bus which was very late due to the never-ending roadworks in the City but we managed a quick toastie before the film, love the Cambridge Picturehouse.

Pretty much caught up with you all after our hols.

Recent pleasures:

1) Despite the cold and the rain it's good to be home, poodling and pottering, holiday washing all done and the house was cleaned before we went away so some easy peasy days, meals mainly from the freezer til we do a stock-up shop at the end of the week.

2) Re-commenced lunchtime walks and talks with my bairn, lots to catch up on as he was away just before us. Good to be moving again albeit a bit slower up the hills than we used to be! Won't take long to get back into the swing of it.

3) Big pile of newly released library books collected and put into 'reading order'. First one started and very good so far. Found a supplier for a book about my favourite artist, can't order online as have book tokens to use so will have a trip out for that at some point.

4) Surprised to see the cyber-attacked store is still not taking online orders (heard probably until July) but trousers, T shirts and shorts for our summer hols purchased elsewhere are fine. Feel very sorry for them but I'm afraid we won't be the only ones.

5) Long catch up chat with one of my brothers this morning, SIL and her two brothers both been in A & E on separate occasions in the last week and brother had a 36 hour virus. All ok - or in the process of getting ok - now but a bit of a hairy week. Good to catch up and looking forward to our next mini-break with them in a fortnight.

Right, off to enjoy an afternoon with my books, have a good one whatever you are up to.

Planted out the beautiful rose plants we picked up and they look like they’ve always been and gardened where needed.

Cleaned up the front windows, the quarry has been very dusty, and it shows everywhere.

The washing line is full of our clothes, and I’ve just bought in both our bedding and the ferret bedding from the van.

Tonight, we are having a chilli pasta bake using up all the odds and sods leftover and using up a back of the cupboard sauce.

Pleased to see, the woodpeckers made their way back.
