Hello again.
weenancy - thinking of you all, the news coverage here has shown some dreadful, unimaginable scenes.
& - belated birthday wishes.
Lainey - so glad we can sit beside you while you come to terms with a different reality.
Not a lot happening here, we are still pretty much snowed in. The roads are lethal, the pavements more so. Our snowmen from last weekend are still in situ and we had a very hard frost last night. Due to warm up over the next few days so hopefully normal life will be resumed.
In the meantime, domestic pleasures have sufficed - cupboards sorted, cakes baked, books read and that's about it. Ready to be back out in the real world now so hope this lot shifts pretty soon!
Have a good Saturday, stay safe if you still have the cold weather.8 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep. It got down to -5 at one point.
2) 10 degrees in the house so we put the heating on this afternoon.
3) Took smaller son out to get him a new dartboard.
4) Made chicken korma for tea.
5) Watched Casualty.
Just leaving this here as I often look back. Got in touch with a not very nice man who I saw very briefly last year. No surprise that he is still not very nice! I must admit I lost patience today and texted a few things.6 -
1 Absolutely loving the ultra-processed people book on Kindle, it’s so well written and does make me think more.
2 Enjoying a Disney series.
3 We’ve just shopped for the first time in 10 days, a mistake on a Saturday, but we were out of milk and bread, picked up a pack of the frozen pecan plaits to try.
4 The animals are plodding on, one of the prescriptions I had held on to one on purpose I hadn’t checked the date on expired, entirely my fault.

Freezing foggy and frosty all day here ,just looked out of the window as it seemed so bright and can’t decide whether it has snowed or if the frost is even sharper .
went into town this morning for our usual Saturday coffee also a bacon sandwich , not attempting to drive out to the fam shops at the moment ,hopefully it’ll be warmer this week .Cooked a tray of roast veg ,made a Mediterranean sauce ,also a big pan of curried parsnip and carrot soup ,needs blending but tasty
portioned and frozen the last of the bargain cooked ham so the makings of lots of meals in the freezer .
not much else done ,I seem to freeze ,hibernate and lose the ability to doe much in the cold ,never used to feel it .
still coughing and washed out .7 -
@Highdays - It really is unimaginable. Entire towns have been wiped out. Big towns - not little towns. 100,000 people displaced. Another 160,000 told to evacuate. My sister's church is only two blocks from the fire lines. My sister lives about 5 miles on one side of one of the fires and her son lives about 5 miles on the other. So far the fire is going up the hills away from them. The winds are expected to pick up again on Tuesday for a day or so. We are all really nervous. Air is so bad the nursing home where my roommate is has put her back on oxygen. 70-100 miles winds where we have had less than 1/16th of an inch of rain since July. Some idiots were asking why we didn't have more fire hydrants out in the middle of nowhere (about half the fire area) or controlled fire burns (in town with apartments and houses less than twenty feet apart). I don't think so. Over 25,000 structures burned so far including the homes of many celebrities. Sometimes I think I am watching pictures of the Blitz.
We just keep praying.

Oh, weenancy, this all sounds so dreadful.
I do hope your sister and nephew are spared but, of course, feel so sorry for all the thousands and thousands whose lives have been irrevocably altered. We are really powerless in the face of the ravages of nature, aren't we?
I know all your friends here on this board will read your update with horror and we can only hope you and yours stay safe and that you are able to keep us updated when you can.
With love x

Hello. Not sure why I didn’t post last night so here are my weekend pleasures.
Up early and fairly industrious both mornings.Upstairs and downstairs hoovered…ya know until I have to do it again…Labrador moult time!Bathrooms cleaned.Airing cupboard tidied…as much as I can! I have things belonging to DD2 from when they stayed here for a couple of weeks in October before going into their airbnb ( still there) so they had brought their huge quilt/ pillows/ bedding etc. Taking up room but it will go at some point,
Went to CP and had a very lovely walk with the doggy boys. Very cold and frosty and crunchy. Dropped something into the caravan. The lock was frozen so I had to heavy breathe on it for about 5 minutes which DD2 thought was hilarious but it did the trick. Was absolutely freezing inside so much so that it felt warmer outside! Hoping to pop back down tomorrow myself ( with dog)
Had a snooze.Today I tidied up the cupboard under the sink though it wasn’t too bad. I’ve started a bag for charity shop so popped a couple of things in it.We went to garden centre and it was cheese and chive scones…the disappointment was real…though I ate it! Just prefer without. Got some fat balls for the birds and a bag of kindling. And home and a very quiet afternoon. Bit of watching. Bit of snoozing…!Heating off and log burner only on and a hot water bottle for tonight in bed. Hopefully claw back a bit of less heating on as we are forecast to be a bit milder overnight.I’ve filled my organiser for the coming week, set myself some little goals and will see how they workout 😆6 -
We are all thinking of you and indeed all affected weenancy
warmer today but overcast, washing didn't get any drier. But for 5 good things, mostly musical
1) beautiful music on the radio 4 morning service. Two of the hymns were ones I had at my wedding and still two of my favourites
2) a lovely new mass to sing - couldn't make rehearsal Thursday so sight-reading for pre-service rehearsal - getting there
3) radio 3's Music Map - A journey to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no.5 - BBC Sounds
4) footie with the lads
5) after supper, some piano practice - tomorrow I have my first piano lesson for nearly 30 years - very excited (and rather nervous) - 30 minutes fortnightlyMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Weenancy, just echoing to say you and yours are in our thoughts.
1 One of my bay listings has sold, I’m happy with the price being what I was looking for.
2 Nestle aka Mr Dementia, kept asking to go out, coming in, going out, forgetting he’s been fed etc. He is as I type ambling around the living room, he will headbutt my foot to move it from apparently blocking his “lap around”.
3 Meal planned from the freezer for next week. Food tonight is mainly from the freezer rtcs of a small pie, with veg.
4 I keep spouting various facts at DH from the book I’m reading, it’s certainly made me more aware of what’s in our foods.

Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep, though an early start.
2) Worked from 8-12. A nice colleague on today and I managed to have a cup of tea part way through.
3) Went to the Food Share place afterwards and picked up all sorts of things including what must surely be the final mince pies.
4) Tidied up a bit and did 2 loads of washing.
5) Phoned my school friend.
6) Smaller son enjoyed playing darts.
7) Watched Celebrity Hunted and they went to one of our local towns then nearly drove past the end of our road!4
