Love love the Detectorists Frith, still living in hope that they will make another one…..
For yesterday,
Woke up early hours and listened to the wind whistling around the cottage for a bit, Capt S and small dog was gently snoring either side of me so all felt very cosy.
My little girl had her hydrotherapy session at 10.30 so drove across horsey town, picking up two horse rugs on the way that had been cleaned & reproofed, winter prepping!
Therapist was pleased with small dog and remarked on her energy levels 👍
With my big girl, she stood behind me as I picked some blackberries for her, she is so gentle as that soft muzzle takes them off my hand, one at a time.
Mama blackbird having a bath, lots of bustling around and fluffing up of feathers.6 -
Well we did have some sunshine…for a wee while until the rain started!Up early having been up through night feeling a bit dizzy but it didn’t come to anything thankfully
Pup dropped off extra early.
Loaded the car so we could head off as soon as pup was picked up for his walk. Down to caravan.
Had a nice walk then just sat and enjoyed the peace for a bit then started painting. Painted one bit of wall with emulsion then the fireplace and mantle mirror with Frenchic paint. Took down the dreadful pelmet which I plan to re-cover. Plan is to do a corner at a time until I work my way round.Loaded two chairs into car. Again get them away a bit at a time . If DD2 comes down tomorrow she can bring the table back as her car is much bigger. Then paper and paint that corner and then bring my new to me set down.Nice walk before we headed home. Got absolutely soaked coming out of supermarket on way back! Waaah! And I had window down for dog! More waaah!Hello pup.Lashed with so much rain…phone sister who’s sitting out in the garden!Disappointed not to have had a call/ email from solicitor today.Had chicken and chips for tea with DD2 .7 -
Frith - genius spot on the baking trays! Vicky McClure did that brilliant show with her grandad - capturing a veteran's perspective whilst we still can, yes? Bravo the piano! Welcome to the ~258 string guitar... Ah hummus, splendid feeding. You're watering?Purple kitten - I too look at my garden & wonder if bits of it will pack. "The greeting when we get back in" - aww! 23 years?! Cor! Look, skip hire works, but you need to want to send an Awful Lot to landfill. Oh your Wonderful ferrets. Spot on.LaineyT - I will suggest a Solocomb to Middleson - he currently hogs himself with the clippers! Love the beautiful one's ability to roll. I have had my strawberries (feral) ruthlessly weeded by son who said flatly they're an invasive weed, "you can herbs Or strawberries"! Gosh your new yard is So Nice - very glad you moved. Love the bends & stretches. And the sound of lemon drizzle cake! Detectorists Wonderful (says she as ever late to party but loving every gentle affectionate bit.) Love the idea of blackberries being gently lipped from the palm!mhagster - awed at the work going into the caravan. Bouncing with rain - yikes! You can score walks on how many grouse you disturb, it's That wet?! Love how you are rehoming furniture like Ludo pieces. 5 months? My faith in Scottish Law is taking a pasting. "Really have too much to do today to be dizzy" do please take it steadily? Love the working from one corner around.DundeeDoll - a new passport? You do get the use out of it though! (The operational names were always a bit odd, mincemeat, postmaster, dryad, aquatint.. says she revealing a girlish enthusiasm for mayhem only slightly in uniform)VJsmum - delighted to hear these mobility scooters are effective - a change of scene makes Such A Difference!Highdays - top grandparenting! Cab you still maintain the form on salads? (Concerned, but curious.)Happycas - health news good and wedding ho - definitely PMA re weather!OS pleasures recentlyWe have renewed mum’s driving license as current evidence of photo ID. Certain delighted mutterings as to what the dickens happened to her original licence & ugh the photo but hey, all sorted & legal now.Book on smocking has me sat squinting at childhood photos, trying to decipher which stitch/es Granny used. The love & awe are burnished! To do list update - “find library books” now reads “Return library hooks”…Family tree climbing - more 4th cousins, all in New Zealand! Excellent. My “world tour visiting relatives in my retirement” scheme/dream is going splendidly….Argh. Memory gaps filled with random snippets - the bony king of nowhere included “a thing of Reeves & Mortimer just see what you can find” & it took me two Google passes to get the correct lyrics. <I need tea>I am hugely blessed on colleagues who encourage me with application forms. I still feel a monstrous fraud but a terribly well worded one.Only Connect and the glorious missing vowels round…!I say, chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash is impressively disgusting. I knew it as the surgeons soap & never thought I’d be sloshing my mouth with it. Ugh! Still, if it makes the dentist even slightly less withering.I’ve been briefed on how to interview, ye gods & done a visit with virtual trainees - real visit which promptly went west so my phone support did a tour de force explaining what can happen & what measures are in place as I did a worked example of 'know where you’ll find car parking & plumbing'. Aye well, we got in if not got data. You know they’re your green family when you show photos….I made colleagues chuckle suggesting we use AI to make our boss look like a Roman emperor. Whilst the “not sure about AI” was clear, I could hear their imaginations positioning a laurel wreath & a toga!Pharmacy staff whistling together a prescription for a lass about to go on holiday, good-humouredly grumbling that Covid’s picking back up again but they can’t distance. It’s still August, but Starbucks are talking about pumpkin spice Already!Spurred so hard I can feel the blood dripping, I have started to clear out one cupboard. Pulled out things to return to charity shop circulation. Opened a bag for fabric recycling of clothes I’d only buy to paint in & frankly pride restrains me from “giving to charity”. Manifold are the hazards of poverty anyway.I’ve (At Last) found where you donate somewhat used underpants. (Ironically, YOU underwear in Oxford.) Still, there goes a box of lamentation to a virtuous cause. Feeling less ashamed of All The Stuff & tenuously more in control, but wary that I have another full week of discovery to go, as well as that job application.Health, Strength, Love, & Courage to all as have need, reliable waterproofs & a really good alibi should it be advisable. The dedication & patience I read here has me humbled & admiring.6

Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Off to the coffee morning first thing. My chess partner was not there so I had to go into the back room and actually talk to everyone.
3) I thought the new air filter had come for my car, delivered this morning and well wrapped up. Got my penknife and went to the car to fit it. Opened the package and FINALLY (13 months later) it was every deed, plan, receipt, warranty and letter associated with my house since 1960. I couldn't fit that to the car so walked back inside again. I now know the garage was built in 1973 and the extension in 1981.
4) Was waiting for a second delivery so I tidied a bit and cleaned the kitchen bin out.
5) Spent a nasty hour yet again trying to contact British Gas. All I want to do is see how much I am in debit. Their computerised log in is appalling. Did manage to change my electricity tariff to non-variable, before the price goes up again. Our gas bill was £2 last month but £9 standing charge.
6) Found several new places to explore for free on Heritage Open Days this year: https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/
7) Batch cooked 7 portions of chicken tikka (2 for tea and 5 in the freezer) and 3 shepherds pie bases.
8) And finally, my delivery arrived at 5.40. Smaller son has been chief scroller down on the laptop since I have no sheet music left at all...

Frith, now that is a compact, nice piano. I've been toying with re-learning, I did get to grade 7 but pushed back against being forced to play music I didn't enjoy.
1 Batch cooked again, a bolognaise base for spag bol tonight, portioned up 2 lasagnes, portioned up the rest to freeze.
2 Took DH to the Dr for whooping cough complications, he's not to good at all, pleurisy? more antibiotics.
3 Made a to-do list of things I keep forgetting or avoiding.
4 I’ve just spent a long while food planning to match getting DH’s type 2 very under control, grains, nuts, allowing for “better snacking”, so far I’ve got pistachio’s, natural yoghurt, and crackers for cheese.
5 Amazon are doing a vague offer on our printer ink, for £4 off back to school, so I’ll take it.
6 I pondered in the garden planted some salad leaves for the next few months, weeded a little, might have dug out a chair, put a play list on, read a little and snoozed.

For yesterday,
A good nights sleep but boy was it windy again, the beech trees really noisy next to the house.
Capt S off for the day so he came into horsey town with me, we visited the emporium and I remembered why it’s best to shop alone as loads of “ooh they look good” stuff jumped into the trolley.
He did take me out for lunch though as had a voucher for Cambs Cuisine to use, it was a gift from a client for Christmas so has been hanging around for a while! Nice food and even better company.
Lazy afternoon, watching cricket and reading our books, the wind died down later so we could sit out in the garden.
Few games of Yahtzee then started re-watching the first series of Mum, had forgotten how good it was.5 -
Hello.Watched a beautiful sunrise…just before the rain re-started. It’s been a very showery day
Down to caravan bright and early. Did a lot of painting today. It looks so much better.DD2 and Pup came down.Had a nice walk just before I left. My dog not known for being overly friendly made friends with a beautiful big retriever. So had a walk with him and his owner.Stopped and got chips for my tea.Emptied car, between the showers, had brought two chairs back.6 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went to my brother in law's birthday breakfast and also played frisbee with my brother and bigger son.
3) Went to Waitrose for the free paper and did the crossword.
4) Listened to the football commentary.
5) Played the piano a bit.
6) Spoke to my school friend on the phone.
7) Watching Sam Smith at the Proms now.6 -
For yesterday,
Rain, so much rain! Guess the garden needed it though and it meant a lazy morning at home.
I did make a loaf and while it was proving a batch of cheese scones one of which was eaten still warm for lunch.
Over to see the beautiful grey one who was grumpy and, despite the continuing downpour, anxious to be out in her field so I plonked on her waterproof summer sheet and out we went! Her Mum wasn’t quite so brave and sat in the kitchen, drinking tea and chatting to other owners.
Listened to the 2nd half of the footie commentary on the way home and my team came back from being 4-1 down to a 4 all draw.
The treat of a Chinese takeaway meant no cooking for me, watched an interesting programme about Lisbon which we visited a few years ago and loved, then more episodes of Mum.5 -
Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) One week of diet done. Had hummus with veg sticks for lunch then broccoli with bacon bits for tea.
3) Went to Sainsburys for a pot of tea and read my magazine.
4) Went to an open garden (only round the corner) at 2. Took home a samosa and piece of cake for smaller son. Bought a fig tree. I've been looking at them in Waitrose for months but £15 was too much. £5 today!
5) Did some weeding and cut some leaves off the courgette plants because they have grown like mad and no light is getting through.
6) Watched Casualty and am now watching the Planets at the Proms.
7) Played chess online.6
