In England, we think house buying and selling in Scotland is more straightforward, Mhags. Or maybe we think it can't be worse than our system!
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went to B and Q for primer for the grotty ceiling and bumped into my friend who borrowed my steamer yesterday.
3) Went to the coffee morning in our local theatre in the morning (obviously).
4) Cleaned excess paint blobs from around the front door.
5) Finished the little rough edges of painting in the spare room.
6) Have done 2 coats on the bathroom ceiling so far today and might do the third (and hopefully the final) coat later tonight.
7) Got the washing dry outside.
8) Unblocked the windscreen washers of my car with fuse wire.
9) Looking forward to a Sainsburys delivery in the next hour. Hopefully the computer crash hasn't affected them. I had to use cash in B and Q.7 -
frith I think it always was very straightforward. You usually bought and sold in 6 weeks. Entry date a Friday at 12 midday
However a lot more chains now. And people relying on their sale to buy but buying before they sell.First instance was a selfish decision of a buyers buyer to pull out the week beforeAnd second time it’s been an issue with buyers buyer again through no fault of their own.So it is what it blooming well is. And everyone is disappointed because we all just want our new house.Just a lot of 💩 poop8 -
I was in my old house for 24 years. When I was about to move to this house, the completion date was the day before we moved! I didn't know whether to hire a van or not, until the last day.
Then I remembered the stupid system was like that 24 years previously so nothing had improved! I don't know why someone hasn't suggested revamping the whole system.5 -
Grrrr Mhags, you couldn’t make it up could you, hugs x
For the last few days,
My beloved had a few days off work so time spent together.
A rainy morning in cathedral city, browsing in the wonderful bookshop there and the treat of two new books when I normally buy secondhand. Visit to favourite bakery for a couple of their cinnamon buns.
Another cathedral town, this time where they buried St Ed. Our first visit to the Everyman cinema there and we watched Twisters, no great acting skills on show but fantastic effects and an enjoyable couple of hours. Waitress service to our sofa seat and I indulged in an iced coffee.
Trip to the seaside with small dog, seeing her old bones paddling and running into the sea was enough to bring a lump to my throat. It was a hot day inland but a pleasant breeze on the coast and we all enjoyed a picnic lunch, especially the cocktail sausages which are most handy for hiding doggie medication in!
Breakfast out then a bit of gardening before the sun came round and it was too hot, cleared out the bolted salad leaves and will plant some more this weekend, tomatoes aren’t red yet but courgettes are doing well.
Lots of cricket watching and reading of my book, this time last year we are at the Ashes in Manchester.7 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep. I did manage the final coat of paint on the bathroom ceiling last night, put the light fitting back up and went to bed at 1.30.
2) I cleaned the bathroom - all paint flecks and a proper clean of the dust left from sanding the ceiling.
3) Mowed the top lawn, stopping to eat strawberries and raspberries. Courgette plants not looking as promising.
4) Got my car insurance for the next 12 months. There should be £45 cashback on Quidco and I knocked £20 off the renewal price anyway.
5) Our football team had a pre season away match so it wasn't on the radio. Followed it on Twitter.
6) The local district council sent a letter. They want people to fill in a survey about local housing. I filled it in and it was to do with overcrowding or people not being able to afford the rent/mortgage or if your house is cold and damp. An assessor has to come round briefly then you get a £20 voucher.
7) My magazine came in the post.
8) I took the upstairs lampshades down (and the dining room lampshades) and washed and dried them all and put them back up. I only need 2 more 1950s or 60s glass lampshades. The others have all come from charity shops and FB marketplace. I am getting ready to take some "after" photos and a video after I have lived here for one year (in 6 days time!)
9) Looking forward to Casualty.7 -
And today was a new day!Early schmearly.Stripped bed. Thankfully brought it in before I went out as it’s been absolutely lashing! Just remade it and I’ll be in it soon!Cut grass. Put some weed killer down though it’s probably all been washed away. Rain wasn’t forecast this morning.
Watching a nice film called The woman and the sea. About Trudi Ederle who was the first woman to swim the channel.Went to dog park with DD2 and the dogs…it was a bit rainy then it was a bit torrential…may have been soaked right through to the skin. Dogs had fun though.
Had chips for tea.Sat and had a nice chatter with her then they left…her in my clothes and sandals as all her stuff was soaked! At the very least it will be good for the garden 🪴7 -
1 Fighting feeling a bit low, having been ill for a fair while it’s not letting up, the pleasure being, I managed to mow the front lawn which hadn’t been done in 7 weeks so really anything was an improvement, I might pop out later when the heat lets up and tidy up a bit. I didn’t get the back garden done, but it will still be there tomorrow.
2 DH sorted the pond pump out, which the ferret’s thought was the best fun, sun, water and mess, what’s not to like.
3 CBA meal of freezer to oven pizza.
4 It was a day for butterflies, a stunning red admiral, with various blue and other white ones mulling about, I had been a bit concerned having noticed only one over the past few weeks
1 Popped out to the pharmacy, it was unusually quiet, and I had a chance to have a brief chat with the pharmacist who is also a quiet person.
2 Called in at Aldi on the way past for chicken for the animals, and happened upon 50 percent off on the whole chickens, so one will be roasted up for us tomorrow, the rest are being chopped and portioned up for the animals.
3 Making a burger with chips and a curry sauce for tea, the curry sauce is awful, the journey to find a good one continues.
4 Pottered around the garden, deadheading a lot, and making plans to plant 3 pots, while not actually doing it, that’s for tomorrow.
5 Watching Aqua man, as well why not.

For yesterday,
Capt S brought me a cup of tea in bed and I read my book for a bit, The House of Odysseus, like a bit of Greek Mythology.
Spent the morning at the yard, my girlie got a groom followed by a bath then I turned her out early as there was a decent breeze in the paddocks.Home and my beloved had cut back the honeysuckle & hedges in the car port which meant that I could park the mini without the sensors bleeping away.
Made a loaf and while it was proving had an afternoon doze, not quite as hot as the day before but like to fully embrace the Mediterranean lifestyle where possible 😉
A beautiful full moon rising above the beech trees.7 -
Early schmearly ( very early schmearly)
Beautiful sunrise but dozed off again
Went to garden centre with DD2 and The Chap for a cheese scone.
Went to dog food shop for dog food . I carried it to till and chap carried it out to car.
And home! Did a bit of work , finished my script. Sent it off and got lovely feedback with no changes. Give them till mid week for any add ons they can think of and then I’ll print it out and be all ready.Watched end of the film I’d been watching .Hung out a half load of washing but not till late afternoon. It was the stuff that got absolutely soaked yesterday and I didn’t want it lying another day. So it’s almost dry and I’ve just hung it on the clothes horse as it’s just started to rain.
Nipped to supermarket met my husbands best friend. The ‘boys’ had all met last night and raised a toast to my husband as they always do on the weekend nearest his birthday which is just lovely. They were all friends from when they were young lads.Home and whilst dinner cooked I did the hoovering!8
