    1. Coffee with a friend. Long chat with her. She had to have her dog out to sleep this week.

    2. Train journeys ok and not too busy.

    3. Rugby. Nice catching up with people there. Conversation with a boy sitting next to me that my shoes were better at making noise when we stamped our feet than his trainers. No pleasure in watching the rugby.

    4. DS2 scored a try and his finger survived half a match.

    5. Reading a book on sofa wrapped in a blanket. Cosy.

Sounds like good times had by all Frith

    Saturday pleasures,

A lie-in to 8am followed by boiled egg with marmite soldiers.

Cold but sunny day so house stayed warm without heating for several hours, we are doing well on the oil consumption having filled up last summer at the cheaper prices.

Another day, another BT engineer, this one at least went to the bottom of the lane and looked at the cables etc, remains to be seen if any difference made.

After visit to see princess pony quick visit to the emporium to pick up grape based wobbleades for tomorrow’s B celebrations.

Rubbish on tv so read books and woke up at same time, it’s all go in our house :rotfl:
  • 1) Changed to 15tog duvets last night, bought them in Germany 25 odd years ago and they've been in vacuum bags in storage since we came home to the UK. A good shake and they fluffed up and I had the best nights sleep I've had for ages. Snow??? bring it on!

    2) Lovely day yesterday with bright sunshine and in the shelter of trees when the wind was dampened down I could have thought it was actually spring. Round the corner though with the wind blowing hard off the river it was arctic!

    3) Dug out my sheepskin Cossack hat and sheepskin mittens and wore them when I went outside, made a great deal of difference to even good fleece thinsulate ones. Found the real coney fur neck warmer that DD found for me on one of her European visits years ago and will use that if it REALLY gets cold.

    4) Off to view the possible house again tomorrow and taking DD1 with us too. Have had time to think of a few wrinkles such as no loft for storage and we've not found a cupboard for linens to be stored in so I'll need to look with different eyes and see where these things could be accommodated. There is a chimney alcove in the breakfast room where a linen store could be located, it backs on to the multi fuel stove in the front room so the heat will filter through. An alternative to loft storage though will have to be thought about in an alternative way.

    5) DD1 and the Zebra child are in a hotel this weekend for his 4th birthday treat of a visit to one of his favourite museums and today a visit to a teddy bear museum, having a fab time and Zebra is being a very good boy. Slept the night through from 7.30 to 6.15 this morning and then helped his auntie to eat her smoked salmon for breakfast (having already consumed yoghurt, croissant and fruit along with a glass of apple juice), so kind! apparently it was 'The best ever' bless him!

Shut it! No! We are builing a team fit for the Premier League at our new home in Bradley Wood. It will only take three season, you watch. Then you will be eating your words!

5 Had anoitehr BrekFest of snorker, best back, mushrooms, haricot beans in tom sauce, poached egg on buttered toast yesterday. Wolfed down with tea! Tum rubbed as well!

4 Watched the classic Cruel Sea last night! Good epic, and it is full of snorkers! Wobbleade was consumed!

3 Found out we had some extra pennies this week, so BoPsie has enough house keeping until the crows come home!

2 Day BoP is doing fish pie, No sea bass will be used as this is farmed, avoid. Homemade parsley sauce will also be served up! Tum will be rubbed as well!

PM2DD This is the Northern Premier League. If the finances are up the creek, we could do it in a few weaks!

Hello. Ist been another stunning day here. Cold wind but bright and sunny and the tiniest bit of warmth from the sun if your were out the wind.

Dog walk. Good chat with friend as we walked past her house.

Then a walk to T with DD2 . Got some RTC beef for tea tonight. Got some RTC summer bulbs and seeds.

    Salad for lunch .

Emptied the hall cupboard to Hoover and waiting on son to help me cut some carpet then we will refill cupboard!

Then I went a dog walk and met another friend and had a chat wth her and her family. Beautiful countryside.

Came home and one of my lovely good friends had been round with some flowers so I wandered round to hers whilst meeting another friend for a chat!

Nice hour and a half of chat. Then home and made dinner of steak pie and veg...I did without the pastry top, which in my opinion is the best kart of a pie!

The pink and white lisianthus from friend are lovely...and brand new flowers not RTC!

Washing almost dried outside . I will take it sore when I've to use clothes airers again!

red is my fave colour pk
having been shocked by the unexpected demise of nic on the archers i am even more shocked by the woman who, on archers addicts, bemoaned others giving spoilers before she'd listened to the omnibus as they shared their stories of family who had died or nearly died from sepsis. and breath...
    1) have been feeling m'eh for the last 3 days. probs reaction to work being m'eh for 2 weeks. so first is deciding not to go to church (which i usually love) and spending a lazy morning catching up on vera and soaking in the bath - red bath bomb from lush
    2) met dd2 from church and we went sofa-buying. this has been planned for 2 years. guess what colour they are pk
    3) then week's shop in lidl. we have been chosen for the 'what the british are buying' survey which made every choice seem a bit more portentous
    4) took dogs for a brisk walk up balgay with dd1 and had a good chat about a book she's just finished - all about the different revolutions and the metaphors we still use - running like clockwork, letting off steam, under pressure
    5) evening meeting of trust i'm secretary for followed by a glass of wine (red of course) and a blether.

    Quick pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep. I woke sons up at 12!

    2) Listened to the Archers.

    3) Cleaned the hens sleeping end out and they were in a jolly mood. Barbara went up the ramp to inspect the new bedding.

    4) Catching up on jobs not done while I was out of action. Cleaned the bathroom today, piles of washing up plus washing from being away and cleaned the fridge out.

    5) Tasty tea of chicken chow mein then I made a mincemeat and apple pie.

    6) Watched Would I Lie to You with bigger son.

    7) Enjoyed reading my magazine and Jack Monroe's new book, both of which arrived while I was in Manchester.

End of half term today :-(

    1. Lovely day here. Cold and windy but beautiful blue skies and the sun out.

    2. Spent most of the day in the garden moving stones around. This aS rubble for base of new greenhouse. Helped by my chickens. The depressing thing is when I next look in the garden I will be able to find just as many stones and more;

    3. Good working in the garden with DH. Discussing plans for the garden for the coming year.

    4. Saw MIL and not for too long. Had same conversation with her about 10 times. After the third or fourth time I do start changing my replies as I become bored. She doesn't realise but keot DS1 amused.

    5. DS1 came so was lovely seeing him. He had been running for the first time in a while and feeling it. Pleased he is doing some exercise for himself and gets him out of the house without his girlfriend.

And now the crashing hangover that is the return to "real life". A day lost to emails, and another to a specific file conversion (which is on aspect my day job but is a bit like mucking out without even get to see the horses). Offspring shunted back onto the usual tracks. The discovery of a butter mountain, now partially relocated to the freezer - I really must take the chaps shopping (even though they grumble vilely) as we have food for a month but noone checks the fridge, freezer or cupboards. MustTryHarder. [Monday morning Already? What happened?!]

Mhagster - all restored to us! Hurrah! Daughter with a lemon tree & your plans for an Australian style extension <happydance> Son in father's suit & boots - unique protection. Experts just do things us mere mortals would struggle with. Sons & mud - it is all very unfair. Dead right to have an alarm clock rather than some iDevice - you sleep better! Lorne sausage is glorious, & cooked by boy child?! Excellent! The snoozette is a wondrous thing. More son & mud then frittata-with-bacon yum! "Chicken-coop-pie" for "chicken pie meets cottage pie"? All the best with cv. A good "Boo!" is splendid stuff. googled lisianthus - glorious!
Frith - dear gods a dislocation is brutal - and you managed to reduce it With Patience - awed. How goes bigger sons plan to learn the guitar? Love dad-made spag bol. All strength with Manchester stadium tour. Picc gardens fountains must have been special in sunshine! All strength with back-to-school.
DundeeDoll - far be it from me to quibble but I think a duck wrap could be viewed as a sort of pancake? If you wished? Chance meetings leading to three names for work idea - Chance on your team! Stratford via cineworld - must research. Three Friday in February students - fun! ParkRun, wth a deer? Motivational! "wine & wool" - knitting in 2 colours - 2 strands? Good phrases outlast the engineering they're rooted in.
mcculloch - bless you - despite efforts my lot are definitely novice cooks. With occasional areas of shining competence across a plain of um... Hoping the DD & DGD visit was worth the effort of clearing decks?! Hoping Darwin is settling in nicely?!
Mrs SD - a good airing cupboard is a joy. Homemade coconut biccies?! Polling station hangers-on unlovely? Dead right to go postal! A holiday flying from local airport - double the fun and the anticipation... With a small herd of chaps, I find creaky floorboards a bonus, but I appreciate others may disagree. Always a kindness to give wrapping stuff to cs. Both the staff & the buyers will be glad! Sounds a corking birthday party & tell on about boar & apple snorkers?! A special thank you present...
villagelife - oww on tissue damage - sometimes a break can hurt less. The really difficult patients do evil things to team morale. Indiana Jones is a lovely rest for the brain! A French fish supper, then a coffee sat people-watching - wonderful! Charmed you post recipes to son - we cherish grandmothers instructions for son heading off to cook on a lighthouse, as she included double cream & fresh herbs... Rugby boots in the kitchen? For moments. Cement delivered, "helped" by chickens. There's an image that'll stick with me for a while! A conversation as to the relative racket of footwear - there's a lad who'll shoe more easily! Next you see MIL, include splendiferous, Cretaceous & formaldehyde in your chat & see if DS1 can keep up?
VJsmum - love your descriptions! "mindfulness, and breathing and shizz", "brother has left and I want to make sure it's secured properly" "heard someone trying to get in... ... it was DS" the "escape committee" "to have another (late) lunch" (it's what family are for, no?) Respectfully disagree that there is no lighter reading than Jane Austen - I escape into P&P when awaiting lab test results - it's not light, it's another universe & cherished as a safe place as such. I frivol with Heyer et Christie et alia. Um, yes, Wills & the fall-out thereof.
LaineyT - a happy horse-farrier relationship is a huge relief! Some job application processes make brain surgery seem straightforward (or even desirable) - well done surviving! Little dog settling - good. Thank you for the heads-up - I shall go peer at the fennel before the cold weather comes in. Yard "like a scene from White Horses" - aww! Share your pleasure in seeing extended family not at a funeral - with our lot, its funerals or weddings & the old outnumber the young currently. I've seen Husband Day Care offered too - admirable idea! Though Bright Purple over-reach boots is a colour choice of genius. Slow cooked beef is pre-planning par excellence. How *do* you introduce clippers? Some drivers really do land you with a challenge & undulating from passenger to drivers seat in a mini is a demanding test of dexterity. Must try Marmite soldiers!
Ampersand - hearing of the miracles wrought by fenboys on Meriva, might they be able to apply cantrip to trolley or would that dislodge potent & effective relationship? "orange/kumquat/lemon" marmelade - wow! And utterly with you on different rule books, ahem. (Struggling [rightly] with Lent which has Keepers book shut & padlocked.) A nice dentist can do amazing things to morale. Lucy Mangan spot on.
BoP - you are indeed only here once "Grab it!" - a sentiment which will be soundly misunderstood on my tombstone, but with which I am in absolute agreement. Glad to hear pension bucket back on track. BoPsie clearly has her finances in hand! "chicken curry with bitsers" - er, what are 'bitsers', please? Happy Anniversary! Contemplating you & Froglais at a respectful blast radius. Hang onto Raffles - we need the yellow stuff! You have enough parsley growing to make sauce?
Mrs LW - respectful admiration at the determination with which you are seeking new house! A Craghopper goretex? Very canny spot & snaffle! Aw the joys both of Cookie & of "Cookie-sitting"! Absolutely cook in advance of guests that you may enjoy them face to face & never wrong to load the freezer, surely? Fingers plaited for ticks All boxes house. Sure daughters will love having you nearer. Ah, set-dressing - canny move. Well done the Zebra child exploring Everything on offer to eat - and sharing the salmon.
house elf - rotten virus - hope you are recovering! Erk "proper flu" - dead right to nest & hunker down! Hurrah for DD's home made soup - always tastes better than commercial sorts. Listing from the nest? Awed - but stay safely hunkered til bug vamooses. Cream donuts sound admirably potent! We have 10 rolls of tape because we disagree on where it Ought to live & so have ended up with at least one roll in about 3 locations & I will not inspect a potential fourth & fifth.... "Books I actually read.......0" - me too! Winslow boy triggering happy flashbacks. Watching bids stack up on eBay is exciting! DD may be away but there's less competition for the home laid eggs.
Purple kitten - hurrah little un doing well & struggling not to covet boxes of kilner jars. Have fun in Costco! Inventory is tough, so one room at a time is absolutely reasonable. Sensational footwear at civilised prices?!
Wednesday2000 - welcome & blimey well done on the exercise! Share your pleasure, feeding birds. Uninhibited &, if not exactly grateful, very cooperative.
Glad - welcome & line dried fresh bedlinens are a glorious OS pleasure!
Chandelier - welcome & yes a long walk with friend & dogs & children (if all cooperative) is a glorious pleasure.
AstroTurtle - welcome (& stunning name!) and hurrah new job with much less driving! Blimey well done on proximity to DF & yes, the coffee sachets can turn a sluggish day right around!
Skint yet Again - hoping you are alive & surviving.

    OS Pleasures recently
Getting a crisp image for printing into decal paper for husband's latest balsa & tissue construction. Some days even the little things glow.

Boychicks: "Fun tit-bit, pterodactyls aren't actually dinosaurs" "So what are they then?" "Boris Johnson clones"

Plus: "Well that's where they're holding the Hunger Games, I mean Olympic games..."

"One call and our funeral directors will take care of everything ... Family businesses .... Local community" - husband quirked an eyebrow "they take care of Everything?"

Mary Beard on Caesar - riveting stuff! Rousing cheers for intelligence and enthusiasm trumping telegenics, too. Admiring her milk crate for orating from though, husband opines wine crate (altogether more appropriate!)

Huevos rancheros for breakfast! This is the stuff to fend off snow & ice with!

Harry & Meghan in Edinburgh - delighted at the joy they are spreading & admiring the timing that means there should not be such a divisive choice between shirts & hats! Though how they plan to shift William over in time to present the FA Cup remains an intriguing puzzle. (Me, I'd delegate, but I'm far too pragmatic for these high emotion moments.)

Embarrassed squawk as youngest sweetly reminded that he was expected in school to help teacher. Charm watching him leap into action - he wants to do this, just had clean forgotten!

Tidying up. Found an existing batch of decal paper just as we're awaiting a new batch... Himself delighted, me pleased but tired. It's not Scandinavian death cleaning if you contemplate homicide during, is it?

Aw, lad went into school to help & Got Paid! A whole fiver "I'm the richest man alive." Certainly enjoying the feeling of his own money, no present, no accountability! [He's Really Enjoying buying individual bars of chocolate of different sorts & joins me in novel shops because he "has Private Means!"]

"Zathras good at doings, not understandings" - brilliant time-slipped alien in Babylon Five. I can't help but think they are underutilising the telepath. <Shrug> Corking good fun just the same. (I do struggle with a security chief called Garibaldi, being raised with the biscuit first, but why let such a minor detail interfere with the fun?!)

Argh - over a month later son mentions not having sent Any thank you notes. Then wonders why we go up like fireworks. Ah well, industriously writing now. (Expecting me to source stamps, of course.) [Arrived, appreciated & for some reason I'm getting applauded. He wrote them. Eventually.]

For some reason I just didn't want pancakes this year. I had one with scouts, mostly to cheer them on, but I lack their metabolic imperative to eat everything. (Excluding chocolate which is something else entirely.) Now Valentines's is hurtling & I can shrug that off even more easily. Himself is a firm believer that if someone matters, they are assured of this pretty much daily & not by an overpriced piece of card. Partly how I come to be the cherished possessor of So Much Denby - when we saw each other occasionally he found I crooned over flowers but also over a teacup & that china lasts longer. Lent & it's prayerful abstinence of something - picking an indulgence to resist will be interesting.

Thank whatever deity you believe in for children - their raucous irreverence is offsetting my gloom about these interminable death policy adverts. [New TV remote has arrived, seemingly With Curse...]

Son's first go at making lasagne turned out a bit crunchy as he didn't make enough white sauce. (Well, let some burn to the bottom of the pan & didn't make extra to compensate.) Still, bonus points for trying & gf liked it!

Hearing my parents sounding distinctly chipper on the phone. Very reassuring as up here the weather is chilly while down south seems milder.

A Walking Dead trailer and sons chirping excitedly - then the suggestion that perhaps in Canada there's no problem with "snombies" (too cold? Or just innate Canadian courtesy?!)

Pal appears to be giving up Facebook for Lent - seems a splendid idea!

"Zumba is off!" - children can be a bit hazy, delivering news headlines.

Farrier's ad in chippy "prompt reliable service, problem horses catered for" - teenager read thoughtfully & snickered once.

Cheering son through migrating to new phone. Passwords galore! Plus security queries, & eavesdropping on phone number transfer. (The teacher who signed his passport photo is to be thanked with a lottery ticket - seemingly this is a Rite of Passage?)

Youngest is to inherit the "old" phone but has already (wisely) opined he has no need of it currently. Splendid. I can charge it, then switch it off & store it with it's cables & converters etc. [Will I ever find it later, now it is Safely put away?!]

The winter Olympics highlights are riveting - I watch & admire the victors, the chaps cheers the crashes... Then, I *admire* the madness of hurtling downhill nose first on a teatray.... [Hugely enjoying the google doodles, especially the iceskating octopus]

Nattering with cheerful insurance broker - adding m'father increases my premium but my researches meant the broker was so in charity with me that the renewal sum fell by more than the gaffer would have cost. Sorted, phew!

Panda nannies, panda sorrows, crooning (& there is a local opinion that they are but ugly toads in comparison with Borneo Tree Kangaroos, which are truly cute.)

We found a pancheon! A real proper old solid gently abandoned one as today's youth wouldn't make their own bread it it. Only catch, the shop were startling shrewd on how much Himself would pay (he's only been looking 8 years) & I had to hit the cashpoint, but he had a hand clamped onto the rim & was just fizzing with delight so worth it!

I like this tidy things up for Lent idea. Even more since eBay listings are cheap-ish til Monday. The charity shops will get more of the (expensive to post) books.... I have found the Denis Wick mouthpiece from a car boot sale tourist horn - not a clue what instrument it belongs on but it can go to a more discerning owner with my blessing & I'll figure who gets the lucre later. Not Oxfam this week, I think.

HIGNFY & Finnish hobby horsing - seems entirely reasonable to me, as us kids played much like that as children. Although seeing hobby dressage I can understand middle aged men thinking dope testing is indicated...

Ah the guys at the carpark - we cheer the passing of Monday & as I admire new gloves, I am reminded to put mine on - badly home knitted mittens but the cheerful railery is warming twice over!

The cherry trees - scrutinised for evidence their season of glory is coming. Given the very cold forecasts, I am glad to see them still furled but gradually plumping.

Sometimes, a cup of tea is just a drink. Sometimes, it carries the same reassuring freight as a needed hug.

Amused to see my Greek breakfast yoghurt being wolfed by husband & son with jam... Healthy eating those proportions are not but they're happy!

It's Wednesday? Oh Good! Family in such rapid orbit (new meds, revision maths book, outline plan for CrazyWeek) I wasn't certain.

Have just chivvied colleague into completing the paperwork for the paltry award civil servants get after 40 years in harness. He chose, bought, & proudly wears the watch, just had put off the "complex" paperwork. He's kept all the complex stuff so he just needed nudging (benign & benevolent chivvying) into finishing the job!

Seizes the opportunity to wish a colleague happy Purim - I drive past a synagogue & pick up occasional words, & had time to double check with Google! He was amused, which will do.

Went to the observatory with scouts - glorious waxing moon and great fun learning constellations indoors then applying that... Yeeesh it was cold though - exactly how I recall astronomy at Uni. They supplied a ladder for the short, bless them.

Gilbert & Sullivan - Iolanthe "Britain set the world ablaze" looping, although m'father's delight at the "did nothing in particular and did it very well" is also chortling in my hindbrain.

Proper very slow cooked Lancashire hotpot.... <says she, sprawled, happily>

Right - all health to those in need, an abundance of hats coats gloves scarves & other weather appropriate garb at the tight time, courage, strength, patience & an extra dollop of Luck to all as have need of same!

    Sunday pleasures,

Bacon butties and the Archers omnibus, oh my DD I had not seen any comments so were unaware.

Cut back a couple of the grasses that had wintered over, not low due to imminent arrival of this weather and made sure to place cuttings into warmth of compost heap just in case any insects had made home.

Despite the siren call of sofa after roast lunch I moved me arris to go and see girlie, pleased to see her hay net stuffed full in anticipation of cold night. We love our new yard.

Watched Endeavour and despite early start stayed awake.

As always, DFV’s epic posts, re clippers just standing next to her whilst they are running to introduce, next step will be laying them against her skin so she gets used to their vibrations etc. All done whilst being calmed and told how beautiful she will look :D
