Hello again.
Wet and grey here today but doesn't feel too cold, just damp.
Recent pleasures:
1) We, too, have been gadding on a pre-Christmas mini-break. It was touch and go for a while as we are not in all honesty totally recovered from our recent poorliness but surely after a fortnight are no longer contagious though still coughing and quite waffy. Anyway, we made it and I think a few days away did us good.
2) To two wonderful Historic Houses (probably in your neck of the woods, Happycas) to look at their Christmas decorations. One very professional and stunning, and one more homespun, having been done by staff and volunteers, but all the more charming for that reason. The volunteers took great delight in telling us which bits they had made and clever things had been done with microwave turntables to make the ballet dancers go round and the Nutcrackers were made from Pringles tubes. Wonderful!
3) Lovely 'proper' afternoon tea overlooking the walled garden, yummy!
4) A leisurely hotel breakfast on a Monday morning is always a retirement delight. Another coffee? Don't mind if we do!
5) Had a lovely time and feeling very Christmassy but it's taken it's toll and today we are exhausted. Not a lot on, thank goodness, so will take it easy after a blissful night in my own bed.
Hope you have a good Monday.7 -
Hello. The last of the Tuesday Tea stragglers have just left and I’ve locked up and came to bed. I’m tired tonight.Up and out very early. It was such heavy rain so we got absolutely soaked on the walk to the post box! With the dog just looking at me as if to say really? Christmas cards posted.Home and dozed off for a bit then pup was dropped off at 8am.Went in to town just after 9am. I honestly don’t think I need to buy anymore gifts. Other than pick up some euros and a gift card for my friends daughter.Home and walked pup and delivered local cards. All done.Chat to sister on phone. Then sat at the blooming laptop to do some work stuff. Honestly could see the laptop far enough!Tuesday Tea was lentil soup with loads boxed up and taken away. Crusty bread and sausages ( RTC) cooked in airfryer. Cheap and cheerful and all scoffed. Pudding was RTC chocolate cake, RTC strawberries and millionaire’s shortbread ( cut in half)
Then they made their own crackers. Who knew some people were so competitive 😆

Forgive the mad hurtle? RL plus seasonal tilt plus homeowner plus Martin Lewis updating two households to do lists!Ampersand - steady as you go midear, give the others on the road as much time & space to blerger off into?Frith - delighted by & proud of you.Mhagster - the young all need teaching to become civilised. Very touched pup has learned emotional support skills.Highdays - I love how people decorate!Happycas - a coach trip sounds fun & I don’t recall going to Kent either.Purple kitten - I’m slowly getting the festive feeling - Middleson despite his own home has told me to put the tree up! (I hadn’t lest he send it flying.)
BoP - good to see you, travel safe!OS pleasures recentlySmoke detector went off & woke us, as it should, just we think it was triggered by dust. Ooops. Middleson screaming (by text) to replace it with one he had delivered here by accident…Me wanting to know what’s he got in place, then - B&Q finest….Youngest & I reviewing default shopping list, scrap the butter (ruinous price), keep the cream buns (see above but morale), can let go of Mars bars now…. (Handkerchief. It’s the little things that catch you.)A Christmas card with the massacre of the innocents as part of the Christmas Story - cousin quietly upholding the version she recognises. We chuckle over “Angel child” as neither of ours were wholly angelic but how can you say that when some well intentioned person thinks it helps? The seasonal langoustine pate is no longer on offer, so (to youngest’s appalled curiosity) I shall dig into “drunken duck confit” - as he’s experimenting with pork & garlic pate. (It’s just us this Christmas, I think he plans to startle Middleson.) [Judging by the two third’s eaten packet, I think he likes it.]One colleague is grumbling about the lack of heating (reasonably), another quietly opines that since home is single glazed with a severe leak in the roof, this is a tropical paradise…Dido’s Lament appearing on an album labelled “chill-out clsssics” on YouTube. Really not quite how we were taught it at gels school but I’ll take whatever chuckles are going. My work clothes are flecked with short lengths of blonde hair - I have assisted Youngest to trim his neckline & ended up looking like I’ve been clipping a Labrador!Ah, proud homeowner coming to collect his laundry while I’m in the office. I have warned him he may have to wake up his little brother… it’s a whole new world!Youngest leading me astray with chocolate eclairs. I shouldn’t have bought them if I wasn’t willing to be tempted!Middleson dropped in as I was out, texted me to put the tree up! I was going to wait so his stuff didn’t risk hitting it but he says all will be well.Lovely pharmacist hearing my anxiety about statins, sorted me a month despite the pills not technically arriving til Thursday. No idea how, just so thankful & grateful!Trio of brass made a delightful festive racket outside the office & several of us opened windows to hear better.I may need a hearing test: “do you want hot wheat up your thingummy jiggum” was heard, “do you want me to heat up your thingummy jiggum?” was Asked…. Boggling gently, I’ll go for warm toes.
Health strength love & courage to all as have need & as Martin has been reminding, have you got power of attorney sorted? My to do list rippling! But HWB means toes warm…8 -

Still here, still coughing 🙄
For yesterday,
Finally got round to writing and posting some cards.
Sorting through purchased presents and discovered that one recipient has two while another has nothing, blaming my befuddled head!
Flock of field fares took off and flew over cottage roof.
Watching the Mayfair Witches, not entirely sticking to the much beloved book series by A Rice but enjoyable all the same.
Lovely friend came with her mobile dog grooming van and small dog was pampered, festive bow plus enamel penguin added to her collar, aww.

Bought a printer. Used it lots this afternoon.
Walked to old neighbours to post their card. Such a lovely day. Cold but bright.
Had work stuff this evening.
Chat to friend on phone.

For yesterday,
Needed to pick up a parcel so quick trip to the emporium, rtc carrots & parsnips for pony.
Woefully behind with chores but did make a few spiders homeless and had a tidy.
At the yard, girlie was pleased to see her Mum and called to me when I walked through the gate ❤️ Still no ridden work but we did some groundwork and she was engaged & attentive despite two boys playing games in nearby paddock.Home, quick change and loaded small dog into car for monthly injection & check up at the vets, he’s very pleased with her and has lowered her medication dosage.
Caught up on Only Connect, got first two questions right but then nothing until missing vowels round, brain testing.4 -
Good morning.
Lovely day here, mild and blue sky.
Recent pleasures:
1) Still struggling with the lurgy and feeling exhausted. Glad we can do not a lot and try and recover.
2) Did manage some washing yesterday but that was it for the rest of the day.
3) Spent the afternoon reading/knitting/sleeping.
4) Son popped in as i was in the middle of a sneezing fit so kept his distance but updated us on house, grandsons, plans.
5) Still no real idea what we are doing at Christmas, who we are feeding, who is feeding us, who is buying what. All to be finalised apparently when we are feeling better. At least the furthest we/they will have to travel is next door!
Right, into the shower and then a sit down, I think.
Hope you are having a more productive day!4 -
1 For yesterday we did just under 300 miles, we took the in laws out for the day to Sussex to the Steam lights steam train, which was both needed, and really lovely. Its just the distance is quite a way. We all took food bits which worked well, I took a flask of soup and doughnuts for all, in laws provided rolls and cakes, and we stopped in at the café and honestly had one of the best hot chocolates I’ve had to date, no added sugars and half milk it was spot on, the coffee was also apparently amazing.
2 The oven is cleaned a pleasure I got on with it, and the fridge is cleaned out and up, in prep for the veg being on offer next week. Also tried to de cobweb but didn’t have the heart to throw 2 sets of developing spider babies out.
3 A chop with veg parcel covered in mint sauce is dinner tonight.
4 Another chat with happy family, genuinely happy from yesterday, that’s what it’s all about.

Did recycling…all to avoid doing what I needed to do!Sister called.Friend called.
Had chicken Kiev for tea with veggies.Snuggles with my doggy.Worked! Had script writing to do which I quite enjoy doing but need to have nothing else that will make my mind wander! And bed!Today more worky stuff to do. And will need to pop over to see friend at some point.
