For Friday,
Over to the stables in the morning, did a bit of groundwork with the beautiful grey one and then put her back out in the field.
My pal and I drove over to a local estate that had a barn and other buildings open for Christmas, look round and then we had a coffee.
Decided to carry on to nearby NT property where we also had a look around their Georgian Christmas exhibition followed by a stop for a bit of lunch and finally a browse around the gift shop where I treated Capt S to some whiskey marmalade and me to a bar of soap.
Capt S had finished work by the time I got home so we put on the twinkly lights and snuggled down to watch an old film.
and for yesterday,
Still struggling with this lurgy and the cough is really hanging around so slow start.
It absolutely poured all morning, did get over to see my horse who was in already, bit of a groom then popped a few treats into her treat ball and smiled as she nudged it around her stable, hoovering up the treats as she went.
Listened to the football, we came back from 2-0 down to get a draw.
Snorkers and chips for tea, small dog had some too.
We both fell asleep trying to watch a film so early night, the wind was howling around the cottage but all safe & warm in bed.

Well we certainly know what the Admiral looks like 😊
Bit of a rough week with a bad back and a racing pulse ☹️Highlight of the week: on an organised coach trip to Waddesdon at Christmas with my sister. It was the day of torrential rain (Thursday) but the house, market and light trail were lovely 🎄
Put up some decorations in the lounge yesterday, cleaning as I went. Dining/kitchen to do. We’re going to a local historic house (much smaller scale) decorated for Christmas 🎄 this afternoon.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone 😊6 -
Sorry to be so bad at posting but 1-5 these last few days Middleson has completed on his first home! Much little car shuttling rather than one big bang van, some careful trimming of nails to discourage gnawing, but the young hawk has flown!
Trying to adapt to the quiet…7 -
Well done, middle son, dfv🤗
Ditto, great aunt Mhags,🌟.
GQT was on earlier. & could send today's ridiculous flowering strawb.pic, which has loaded here twice, but then disappeared.😬#
1. Up on The Gallops with emporium cappuccino and a slightly clearing sky after 3hrs of crashing downpour....
2......after a great family Christingle service.
3. Naturally, just popped into the concert space church to look at the No More Books tables. Hmmm. & actually did it! Nearly no more books - only 2 - BUT did take an incredible heap of vintage mags, all special Christmas issues of Country Life and London News Illustrated, mostly '50s and '60s. They are fabulous. Luckily had decent £s note, popped back to churchwarden B in other church, handed it over, explained why. All ferrying into Doblo accomplished just before la pluie unleashed itself.
4. We will not discuss yesterday's dire🦚🏉 result and too many crazy giveaway pens vs Colchester. & had wondered why X was back in the XV and still does. Never again, please.
Some post-match hugs after, but....
Appalling weather/drive both ways, with the 3rd year of notorious A14 project adding 11 single lane miles@20mph, enforced for container lorries, always en route to Harwich...etc.etc. Couldn't see through or past them or the filthy, greasy spray thrown up.
5. 2¾hrs later for 70 miles - was just in time for choral Advent concert, first notes as & carefully made way to double saved seat, thus able to put leg up on other. VG, as was hot mulled wine and warm mince pie during interval.

Goodness moi, sky continues to clear, with plenty of orange tinting a hefty cirrus band.

Hello!Well…Great Auntie was not pleased at 1.30am and at 3am that a youngster was still awake! Nor when I came down at 5am ish to take dog out that a very precious to me thing had been taken off a shelf and left on the kitchen worktop. My granny’s musical box that’s very old and very precious to me. And if she’d asked I’d have got it down with a please be very careful issued. Then when I later came into the living room to open the curtains found a pair of trainer socks ( a scooby snack for the dog) left on the floor! However apparently she was talking to herself at 3am ( she was on the phone) told her I didn’t button up the back! We went to supermarket for snacks and then to cinema to watch Wonka. I thought it was a lovely film. Just simple niceness.Came out to the most horrendous rain! It was torrential and so much traffic and so much surface water. Drove home to get her stuff and a dog and we set off. It was the worst drive ever. So much water. Then a car going in opposite direction would go through a puddle (small lake) and throw water all over the windscreen so I couldn’t see momentarily. Repeat times too many times. And most of journey is country roads so you can’t see what’s ahead. Waaaah!Anyway dropped her off and then went the quickest beach walk ever. He had a quick runaround. Then back to car.Got home. Hurrahs and big sighs!Called friend. Then chicken Kiev for tea with loads of veggies…may have tipped too many peas in the steamer, but all eaten and enjoyed.
Amd I didn’t eat all my cinema sweets so might just munch on them whilst watching Strictly and Celeb later! If I stay awake!

Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) A sleep not as bad as it could have been.
2) After a slow start, we went into town. I redeemed my 12 Days of Christmas M and S voucher thingy and had some free Percy Pigs in a nice train tin, that will go into a Christmas stocking... Also went to Boots to print some photos of for one of our friends who has been moved forcibly then to Aldi for shopping then to Lidl as their Christmas food is better!
3) Showed MrU the wonders of an emergency lunch in the car outside Lidl. Their lovely little pesto and goats cheese pizzas then a cake each.
4) Nice tray bake for tea.
5) Took the very last of the kitchen wallpaper off.
6) Saw my neighbours and A is still happy to come round and finish the plastering here and there for me (for free!) Hence taking the last of the wallpaper off ready for him.
Off to near Birmingham tomorrow. I don't know if anyone remembers an old man (70+) who had come over on the Windrush but then the Home Office suddenly decided he (and others) should be sent back but he was in the middle of cancer treatment at the time? Well, we are going to see the man who sorted all that out, for MrU...6 -
Yay for Middleson DFV
For yesterday,
Early start at 5am due to small dog’s bladder requirements but we did go back to bed for an hour or so. Beautiful pink sunrise.
Usual Sunday routine of bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge.
Would love to say that I spent the rest of the day busy and productive but to be honest I still feel rough with this blinking cough and a mouth full of ulcers so there was just plenty of reading and watching of festive programmes.
We did get out for an afternoon walk, milder but breezy and the beech trees had shed some branches.Opened a pouch of Quality Street that had been put in the cupboard for Yule, just because.8 -
1 It feels like Christmas is underway, the tree is up and decorated, we have rolled it right back this year the tree and a few decorations around the room, but no extras outside elsewhere, and it feels like enough.
2 I’ve written and delivered the local cards and posted off others, the remainder are to go in packages being wrapped tomorrow.
3 Festive songs are playing, and I don’t understand the Wham game going on dare I say I like the song!
4 Placed an online order, just taking advantage of offers for tomorrow.
1 The shopping arrived with no subs an all offers snaffled.
2 DH wrapped all the family presents, I did all the tags and cards, and together we are organised, sorta.
3 Treated our selves to ordering in
4 We bought a baking Camembert last week, and its got a use by of end of dec, but we just can’t stomach the smell so it has had to be cooked up tonight, I topped it with sweet chilli
5 Birds are eating well.

Hello. Bedtime!Awake at very silly o’clock through the night and eventually fell asleep again. Then up with doggy at usual time.We went up to castle this morning and had a nice walk round. There was a smidge of blue in the sky ( if you squinted your eyes!)
Went to supermarket. Popped into old work just to say hi to my old Monday girls!Home and wrote a list. Hoovered upstairs and downstairs. Washed floors. Remade the spare bed properly ( and May have growled at the great niece…pair of socks under bed. Crumbs in the bed. A bottle lid on the floor. We’ll have words for next time!Started wrapping gifts, wrote Christmas cards and when I was looking for my address book that’s at least four hundred years old…I should update it I suppose, sadly friends and family no longer here are still in it. Anyway got waylaid and read my journal when my husband was ill and it just made me a bit overwhelmed. Doing another Christmas time without him…not that he’d do wrapping or write cards😆 this is the time of year I kind of mentally start to count down to it being another year gone by, though it’s still a couple of months away, it’s just how my mind works. Always counting. Anyway I was then cuddled by two emotional support dogs. My dog has always came straight to me if I cry and today the pup just came over and knew what to do. Bless.Anyway texted OH best friend to see if he knew the address of the friend I wanted to send card to…nah! Did he know his dads name as I might be able to get the address that way…nah! So we’d a laugh at that! So I’ve just sent it to the street and hope they have a good postie!Stamps! Well I bought stamps the other week. Can I find them? Nope! However still had some old Christmas stamps which apparently you can still use so stuck them on. Said a thank you to mum for having hoarded stamps 😆
Made French toast for tea. I sorted out the fridge and freezer today trying to make room for next few weeks . So sister had left white bread which I’d put in the freezer as I don’t eat a lot of it and prefer a nice sourdough! Anyway used some of it up and it was very nice.DD2 came to collect her boy. Had a quick chatter with her.Delivered some local cards.4 -
Good morning
Been AWOL on a coach trip! Many pleasures.
Went to Cambridge (waved to Lainey and Ampersand). Lunch in The Eagle ( well, we were tourists!) And wandered round nice ethnic/ fair trade shops buying extra Christmas presents.
On to Kent. Can you believe, we've never been there! Lovely visits to Faversham, Rochester and Canterbury. Great to visit new-to-us places with lots to see and do.
Great also to stay in a hotel and let someone else cook and clean for a while.
Stopped at Stamford on the way home. That's only about an hour away from home but we've never been there before either. Definitely will again though. It's lovely.
Now back home, tired but happy! Ready to tackle the washing and do some serious Christmas prep.
Happy wet day ( again!) everyone7
