Pleasures for today
Thanks Ampersand, I must have crossed paths as I was walking back down the corridors around that time. Also thanks to others on this thread.
DS2 had his op they have had to replace the mechanism in his leg to try continuing the bone growth hopefully. Hoping to see consultant to confirm that the op has gone well. He has been kept in and sent up to a ward so think he may be in for a few days.
I have decided that Newquay will have to wait and hopefully another deserving family can go instead - my time will come.
1. The understanding staff at Addenbrookes.
2. Coffee and yum yums
3. My dog carer who is looking after doggy over next couple of days.
4. Heating in my car.
5. support from family, friends and strangers9 -
Good morning. There's a beautiful golden glow in the sky as the sun rises. Hopefully another good day.
Ampersand, Topsy T - please can I add my thanks to the NHS. We have been served well by them, and are very appreciative indeed. Thank you again NHS.
Recent pleasures
Winter duvet on. Summer one had a good blowy, sunny day on the whirligig before its hibernation.
Starting to use the slow cooker again. Love the ' Chuck it in and leave it for hours ' style of cookery. And it warms the kitchen too.
Finding nice gentle walks for us to do. The immunotherapy is making DH very weary, especially at the beginning of the week, but we still like to get out somewhere when possible. I'm sure it helps us both to cope better.
All the summer clothes packed away. Winter ones dug out. Boots given a good clean. They'll last another year! Hats, gloves , scarves sorted.
I knitted a hedgehog to go with my pumpkins. Scale is a bit off as he's bigger than the biggest pumpkin but still very cute. I also added my mum's wooden darning mushroom too. Well used and well loved. And fascinates the grandchildren. The idea of mending socks!!
Chilli for tea ( slow cooker again) followed by apple crumble (air fryer for that)
Happy autumn day everyone

Also have a lot of love for my sock mushroom HappyCas as have to darn many of my socks thanks to yard boots.
For yesterday,
Very cold first thing but happy to use my new winter coat for first time, added gloves too.
Into horsey town for a food shop and met my friend for a coffee.
Over to the yard and fetched girlie in from her field, apparently she was a tad chilly in her fleece rug when checked first thing so dug out her big stable rug but believe overnight temps are on the increase for the time being. Bit of work done but her mind was definitely on her hay net, work will start to slow down a bit now that winter is coming.Quite a lot of surveys this month so on target for total.
Uni Challenge and a few questions answered.6 -
Good morning.
A lovely day yesterday and today we have the first of the autumn mists and condensation on the cars but looking as if the hazy sun up there may break through so another lovely day may be in store.
A bit grizzly and snappy yesterday so efforts will be made today to be a bit more pleasant to be around - must do better!
Recent pleasures:
1) A day pretty much to myself yesterday as hubby took his car to be serviced, catch up with old pals from where we used to live, etc. Popped to pick up an order from the shopping centre later when he got back.
2) Menu finalised and shopping list done for early prep for our family Christmas party which I am hosting. Some stuff tucked away in the freezer already and some bits bought on our travels last week. Had a trial run of a couple of main courses, bit underwhelming for a special meal though we enjoyed the minted lamb for tea last night.
3) Sat and read a lot of my book yesterday - the latest Ann Patchett. Love her style of writing so enjoying this very much.
4) We enjoyed our week in Northumberland so much that we have all agreed we would like to go back and see a different season up there so the 'cottage' is booked for the eight of us again next April. Thinking brisk - or wet - walks along the beach, cosy pub lunches and evenings in with the log burner going. Also plans made to spend New Year and my brother's 65th at the beginning of January down at their house in Wiltshire. Making the most of retirement while we are able!
5) Pottering and sorting over the last few days and enjoying home - had a month of feeling under the weather and then away so it's nice to feel well enough to want to get my house in order for the coming hunkering down months. The year is galloping by.
The sun has now burst through, hooray. Off to the hairdresser's in a while - not a pleasure but will hopefully look a lot better afterwards. An afternoon of cooking for the freezer. Hope you have a good day whatever you are doing and that you get some lovely autumn sunshine where you are.8 -
Hello! All cosy here. Heating has been on but switched off now and curtains all closed. Been another cold but dry day.Up early with two doggies.Stayed in bed and finished my book.Just nipped out to supermarket for a few things.Lovely chat with my sister.
Made chicken and veggie pie. Apart from the chicken everything else was RTC . I need to go through my fridge tomorrow and give it a good sort out!
DD2 had tea here then took her doggy away. My doggy and I had a huge sigh 😆
Hoovered and washed floors .And now just sitting peacefully…puppy back at 8am tomorrow…we’ll do it all again!6 -

Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) Not a bad sleep. Rather short...
2) At bigger son's at 5.30a.m. Took him and his girlfriend to the airport and they're now in Lanzarote.
3) Mr U came along for company. Got completely lost. Nearly went into the Land Rover factory and had to do a u turn in front of the gates and about 2000 workers arriving at 7... Then weirdly ended up on a service road of the NEC so used their toilet!
4) Breakfast in M and S.
5) Back home and the kitchen man has been working all day. A pain having no sink or washing machine.
6) Weeded 2 borders then mowed the lawns.
7) Had a nice chat with my neighbour for an hour. Until I said I had a housemate staying here for a while and she said that homelessness was a problem and that there are "not enough houses for NORMAL people". Cue my housemate suddenly appearing through the patio doors. I don't think she'll make comments like that to me again...
8) Took housemate to the dentists. I asked quietly if they might have a staff member who spoke his first language and they found three! (It's a huge dentists). We also had a chat with a Hindi speaking man.
9) A lovely tea. Washing up done under the garden tap in the dark.
10) Watched England beat Italy 3-1.

For yesterday,
Got the bathrooms cleaned, as ever the pleasure is when it’s done.
Met a friend at the village garden centre and had a catch up over a coffee & cheese scone, she’s having a rough time in her personal life so kind of an agony aunt session!
Bit later getting over to see my equine pal and she was standing at the gate waiting, called when she saw me and more or less put the headcollar on herself, had obviously rolled and was a tad muddy so plenty to do grooming wise!
Warning light pinged driving home showing a light bulb out, went all round when I got home and even called Capt S to check my braking lights and it was nothing that we could see, it’s due it’s MOT in 2 weeks so might come to light then, pardon the pun ☺️More cheese, this time with macaroni for tea, enjoyed that and the England game.6
