Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Did the mist coat on the sanded walls of the spare room. Painted the ceiling afterwards. A bit tempted to give the ceiling a second coat now.
3) Bought 2 lots of curtains on Ebay. Was outbid for a third pair.
4) Went to M and S to do some Arabic.
5) Went to my sister's for some picture hooks.
6) Went round the charity shops but didn't buy anything.
7) It seems the walls downstairs are made from titanium with only normal plaster in the extension! So the extension has lots of pictures up now and the original part of the house has small holes that need filling where I bent nails...
8) Walked to Tesco through the park and back.
9) Just finally completed some paperwork ready for a meeting tomorrow.9 -

the week went all too quickly. Wednesday more football with DrM and MrG, Thursday evening was choir practice and ds and his gf arriving a day earlire than i expected - good thing i've got those guest rooms at the ready!
Friday was book club at mine so quick dash to mrt after work for nibbles - mum did me proud preparing crudite and laying out the nibbles - mixed feelings about the book but lots of good chat and rare that we all like the same book.
Saturday pedicure followed by friend's 90th birthday lunch then come sing faure requiem with gbf - we were audience and very much enjoyed it. good catch-up with him after. and of course Luton's first premiership win ever 🎉 which brings me to sunday...
1) tentative waking up of ds at 9am to see if he could help me move furniture in 10 mins - he could 😎
2) lovely service - harvest festival
3) didn't stay to the shared lunch though cos was dashing off to watch leicester game with DrM - another win
4) sat in the front garden enjoying a cuppa with mum - weather glorious
5) watched 2/3 hamlet with mum - excellent - she's off to bed now so hoping it's on catch-up to watch the rest tomorrow.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hi everyone
Quickly touching base, quiet couple of days so little to report but there were pleasures.
DDoll - Hamlet's on iPlayer, I didn't realise it was on till just now so checked before I turned the telly off, tempted though I was to watch now!
Recent pleasures:
1) Had a quiet couple of days, seems we are still getting over our various ailments so cruising in the slow lane for a while suits us just fine. Big pleasure that our time is our own and we can do exactly what we want.
2) Reading a remarkable book - This Other Eden. So beautifully written I'm having to take it really slowly to absorb and marvel. Not bedtime reading so have another book on the go too.
3) Made the mince pies for the Christmas do yesterday, then made some more today as yesterday's were all eaten by the hungry hordes pretty much straight from the oven. Managed to get today's batch in the freezer sharpish. Trying to get ahead of the game but mince pies in September - just - did feel somewhat surreal.
4) Some household and financial admin done, bit boring but now feeling vey much more organised.
5) Some great plans in place up to the end of the year, we are going to be busy but it's all lovely stuff. Starting off with a few days next week in the Cotswolds with brothers and sisters-in-law. Lovely country house hotel booked by brother no 2 who has a great sense of style and is more that happy to spend our money for us! And we are more than happy to let him! A busyish week first with a couple of day trips and lunches out and my poor chipped tooth to be mended.
Hope the first week of October is good to all of us.8 -
1 The harvest moon last night, beautiful clear starry skies, happened to see the iss also.
2 We drove across to Fareham to pick up an auction won item for dh, a quality old tool, I took some rolls for lunch, and had a ferret with us.
3 We stopped for a slow walk around the south downs and had a cuppa before heading home.
4 Remembered to put in the gas and leccy readings.
1 Some gardening achieved, general tidying up of detritus and the clutter corner de cluttered.
2 I was supposed to be doing a roast today, but it would have been eating at about 9 by the time I thought of it, so steak and mash it was
3 Meal planned for the week ahead.
4 Car taxed again, a pleasure it’s done.
5 I do love a good vintage “horror”, tonight it’s Dracula Prince of Darkness

For yesterday,
Up early and a tad bleary-eyed but very mild outside so a wander around the garden with first cuppa of the day.
Usual routine of bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge.
In the garden, cutting back and tidying. Picked quite a few carrots so prepped, blanched and are now in the freezer. Made the first crumble of the season, apple & blackberry.
Afternoon walk with small dog and then we sat in the garden, reading our books until the sun went down.
Watching an old episode of Vera and toasted crumpets for a late tea.8 -
Good afternoon/evening
Nipped to town this morning to go to the bank. Don't know when I last went inside! There's only one enquiries desk and one cashier now. The rest is ATMs. Had to pay in the cheque we got from the caravan camp. Why they can't do BACS transfer I don't know! Anyway, done now and receipt safely tucked away.
Then this afternoon DH had his first immunotherapy session. All went very smoothly and he is fine. And breathe! We really have put everything on hold until we saw how he went on but hopefully things can get back to normal. 5 more sessions to go in this batch and then a 6 week break and more biopsies to see what's happening.
Lots of lovely messages from friends and family. We are blessed
Happy rest of the day everyone x6 -
Sorry all, life got a bit out of hand...
Purple kitten - frezer Tetris produced steaks?! Aw, IKEA cupboard becomes Fuzzie Central - so impressed! A good medic does make the whole circus less fraught. Oooh a reduced Costco Pizza? Oh Kit, and breathe and hope... Love an auction win so drive, packed lunch, with a ferret.LaineyT - Youngest DSS' new place & Blyth services (mildly odd how you can get Very Attached to some service stations) wonderful that celebration of life really does celebrate. A new coat now is bonus shrewd - you get the benefit & none of the rush! Oooh, the cast of The Following Events reads brilliantly... Some Emporium offers it would be rude not to. Love that Peter Beales rose nursery has twigged the merits of being dog friendly. A ride on the buckle & no haynet? Field & maybe more berries definitely. "first crumble of the season" yum!Highdays - new car, bash & appendecitis - a busy day for BIL! A floppity day sounds wholly reasonable. You aren't the last to Homeland (I've not seen any of it, Yet!) Curry Night, eh? Sounds a splendid tradition. A trial run of seasonal logistics - genius idea! Delighteed to hear another gracious break is in the offing.DundeeDoll - rousing hurrahs seeing family you've not seen since 2020! The downside of leave is the email mountain on return. Ah the young enjoying their elders in school... Never occurred to me Hamlet might be on iPlayer!Frith - blimey well done on Greenwoods garb. Hurrah bigger son & fusewire! It's ridiculous how much faff is involved in opening a bank account these days, isn't it?! Argh, flinging carpet is not easy. Belated happy birthday bigger son! Park Run & conversation in Arabic?! Huge respects for the hours put in to achieve same. Walls of Titanium?!mhagster - the great plum invasion apace... Glasgow in your own chauffeur driven double decker! Donna Ashworth of on those days - wonderful. A sofa of you & 2 Labradors, all curled up - bliss! Eeep broken glass (I am so struck by the squishy slice of bread 'hack'.) You do Insta As Well? Dare I ask what are you planning with conkers? Delighted you have flowers to enjoy.VJsmum - round of applause at self discipline to cheer on DS overseas & not interfere. The right kit makes Such a difference!BoP - no three lunch? Outrageous!ampersand - holding you in my thoughts. Obeying, resting, still subbing the Preview. Yes, gold is roundball, but can be gripping! Loads of msg'g - splendid.Happycas - so glad your TV dislikes iffy weather too. So glad all has gone smoothly so far for you & DH.PaulieHerts - once again stunning photos of all theose amazing colours of blue. Thank you!WeenancyinAmerica - my sons regard kale as punishment food as I only ever eat it when on a diet. It's possibly delicious but the connotations are not.OS Pleasures recentlyHit a sticky bit of family tree. There’s an unspoken of uncle by marriage who himself married & begat & yet they are unknown to me, suggesting either a misunderstanding with the family tree code or a thumping falling out….I am to eat a high protein low fat diet for a few weeks. Sons are gleefully researching (and not kicking out kale!) so life is going to get more complicated.Youngest, having objected vigorously to the usb grow-light being visible in my office, is smitten with it in the hall. Apparently it looks like aliens are visiting. (I was being hugged, I may not have interpreted the rumble correctly, but he was clear: he wants it to stay on…) Eh?!I say, fun though an unexpected octopus is (& they’re so rare, they can tweak their hormones & get knocked up should they meet), my awe is kept for those who can pronounce the expedition correctly first time as it’s looking around the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument (PMNM).Colleague retiring was all set to turn down “parting gift” & I teased him he was forgoing the traditional clock & really, wouldn’t an alarm clock be so much more amusing? Then, I mused happily, really nice bedding - how about a wool duvet to snuggle under? He’d not heard of such, so I assembled a briefing for him, but we both liked the idea of retiring under a really nice duvet!Blimey, Youngest showing formidable determination figuring how to help me stay in this diet. A chickpea curry from scratch & tasting delicious - I’m impressed & very touched. Middleson has agreed to go but more fresh veg including cabbage (for the fibre)… I think they want to keep me. (Well the POA isn’t signed yet.)I say. Team shopping for house & contents insurance is hard work. Me slaving over a hot keyboard, sisters yodelling over speakerphone. Still mum is as safe as we can keep her for another year. Although I am still squinting at the cost of hearing aids. Miniaturised hifi, I guess…Leafing through the M&S Christmas food options & giggling, wincing, & vaguely inspired at various different ideas. And flatly appalled at the prices. For a lass living in Lancashire, I’m definitely sounding like my Yorkshire colleagues “how much?!”…Oh life is surreal when you find yourself WhatsApp-ing one of mum’s carers to please find the blue stuffed dinosaur & then find a suitable tether so it can be hung up…If this is sanity, it’s wildly overrated. [And mum doesn’t like it, so I now have a dinosaur I wasn’t quite expecting!] {Carer fastened a key to it Anyway agreeing with my logic}Ah, first aid training! Well, an accident prone childhood plus running repairs on the lad do mean I’ve some live practice. Nothing eye watering this course (yet) but we’ve plenty of scope for construction stories.Hm, it’s possibly a bit odd but my CPR dummy has been nicknamed George. In a hall of people shaking & shouting to check the response levels, my voice is upraised in trying to roust George from oblivion (& later admonishing him for being uncooperative in the 10 second check for breathing. Trainer trying not to giggle.)Ah, bandaging! These simple pleasures….I went minimalist on my birthday cake - a single chocolate eclair. Topped with a Playmobil figure as we tend to put on toys/figures rather than candies…I’m a qualified First Aid at Work-er again! One of my course mates figured you could do CPR on a fish & the discus fish is still alive. One sister thinks it’s hilarious, I think that’s a facet of love.Just giggling wildly here “emotional support alligator denied entry” - I then read more and realised that actually both sides had a point. Still giggling a bit though.Tool-spotting on the Repair Shop & bickering gently over exactly which Swann Morton blade is in use… (That was a Christmas and a half where collectively we cleared the £50 free postage threshold and got a formidable array of edged fun in different shapes, some of which are still going.)Oh Youngest - struggling not to yell as I dive into a pet shop & buy a length of antler. Have a sudden wish to try to make horn nalbinding needles.Right. Health, Strength, Love & Courage to all as have need, HWB tests to avoid yearnings to line dry and maybe now is the time to start loading the store cupboards so when the really iffy weather comes, we can stay hunkered down?8 -
Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) First coat of blue paint done in the spare room.
3) Went to M and S to do some Arabic and met my neighbours from years ago.
4) Took my friend to see the housing officer with a tea break in Costa in the middle of the 3 hour appointment while our man did some photocopying and paperwork.
5) Finally started to sort out my wardrobe after just shoving everything in there when we moved in (2 months ago).9 -
1) lovely sunny day and really warm for the time of year - although i took my coat i carried it
2) dd2 left her lunch box so i have requisitioned it -it's got compartments - finished off the salad, the hummus and the mini porkpies, all in their own compartment
3) after slight panic about losing my confirmation email from trainline (my fault not theirs, i'd put it in a 'safe' folder forgetting i can't see folders on my phone email) mum took me to the station to pick up my tickets in person
4) after supper we watched the last third of hamlet - if you are a fan i'd defo recommend David Tennant's Hamlet
5) then i watched episode 4 of woman in the wall - now cooking the last bit of marrow with some other lo veg and the lo cocktail sausages for lunch tomorrow and wednesday.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
