Hello.Wednesday pleasures
Up early.Met niece at old work place. I always have lovely chatters with old colleagues ( from about 14 years ago) Had a nice child free catch up with niece. Then got a lovely text later for listening to her woes. Said that’s what aunties are for! Then drove a bit further down the road to next venue! Was meeting friend for a catch up and it really wasn’t worth driving home to drive back out again, so just sat in the car for a bit then had a wee wander round. Nice catch up with friend. Then home! Hello doggy. Pottered around house and garden.Did not need fed as had consumed quite enough when I was out! Then went a big walk with work colleague/friend. It had been absolutely lashing and I said I didn’t mind walking in the rain if she didn’t so we started off in the rain but it tailed off.And so far this morning doggy and I were at the beach for 5.30am, though tide was in and loads of jellyfish so he didn’t get off lead but we still had a good stomp across the beach. Was rather misty on the way there.Have a good day 😊9 -
Will try and rattle out five on a strange and topsy-turvy day, from under the medlar growing in Kettle's Yard, a proper bit of Jim Ede's own planting.
1. Another interregnum Midweek service, MP not HC, and just right it was. All good and simple. Unfortunate news is that selected candidate has had to withdraw. Back to the starting blocks for some months again.
2. CUBG renewal card has came through. As per recent post passim, a sit on the little NZ garden waterfall seat is long overdue. All day tomorrow after more P&R.
3. A long wander through Town of Gown from p&r bus disgorgement to here, past 2 CS's. In notoriously expensive Oxfam, picked up 2 Sistema(made in NZ) food savers for 30p and 20p! Perfect for day out munches and much else.
4. Corner opposite Kettle's Yard used to be an art gallery display space. Now a marvellous little shop, with lovely gent Jason and wife, Vicky - called Soap and Clay. Soap's all home-made by Vicky and a bit of studio pottery shouted at & from the window, which is why & entered and spent a wonderfully happy ½-hour. It's now &'s,
No, not £222 DG, but an unbelievable £22! Quickly saw 2 other pieces by same potter and very tempted. Previously, this corner displayed many such things, with big £hundreds to low thousands the norm. In its new guise, Soap and Clay exhibitors set their own prices. Some are very high, but l learnt this potter is a glaze technician, rather than a studio potter per se. Long may this remain so! Glorious work and such a fortuitous visit, plus new acquaintance of some good people, always a plus.
5. Have skipped Lucy Rie, after Trunchball lectures and political prisoner-style interrogation about online booked+timed visits, from Ms Obnoxious and Ms Bumptious and 'Produce me your Membership Card' - ages approx. asbo 12. 'You don't move! You wait until quarter to 4. All visitor must have the talk.' No, thankyou. This is not necessary, merely an option for pressure cooker visits and never for Members. However, in shop & was recognised and smiled at, so happy chat and+ collected long paid-for books, asked where Exhibition was headed next. Bath, so will see it again there. Up in the adjacent redundant Church, had quiet moments, remembering this was where & had been in the welcoming party for Andrew Nairne, as new Curator on another lovely sunny afternoon in 2011. Was also at the opening of this Lucy Rie, his retirement. Things change, yes. Courtesies shouldn't. I wonder how many of this industrial art marketing production line in Kettles Yard even know this is in that old church?
& cleared it, moved the seat so it could be seen, uncovered the wall offertory slot and placed the 5 Churches Conservation Trust signs there and elsewhere prominently. The middle-aged tour guide talking an American couple around didn't even mention it and they were keen to know things, asked questions he ignored. & managed to remain silent - rare!

Now back in doblo. Things to do. Have sent a few Town of Gown filmy bits to old Aotearoa schoolfriends, including - as always - small homage to Clive James at Portugal Place.
Will stop yabbering now. Have lovely evenings, everyone.
Frith, this is the juggler's corner.

Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep. Then a nightmare about my ex husband (after all these years!)
2) A wonderful day today. One of those things where you are not sure you want to go, but then are glad that you did. 5 men from the hotel, a few English ladies and a couple who have just started meeting up with us all. A walk along the river bank (SVR, VJsmum) from one town to the next village. I was worried we would be walking at top speed in the heat but we stopped so many times! First we saw a cormorant catching a fish. Then we went on the "beach" on the river bank and skimmed stones. Got to the village and had ice creams then we sat under the shade of the footbridge to eat cake and drink apple juice.
We walked back a different way through a field packed with orchids.
3) Went to M and S afterwards and had a sandwich and a pot of tea and did some Arabic.
4) Drove home and saw a different guy so gave him a lift.
5) Fed next door's cats (and my cat!)
6) Smaller son wanted to test the new menu at McDs, so we did.

1 A sneaky one for last night, watching Sandi Toksvig Hidden Escapes as it started in my favourite place.
2 The good thing about a hose pipe ban is we are drinking the soft drinks bottles that have lurked around to get the bottles filled with water.
3 Ordered in.
4 DH got a coat of paint on by the front door to freshen it up, as we are changing the door curtain to a ecru/grey thing to make it neutral for saleability, I will be glad when we find somewhere as it’s not our style. Very mse thankfully, it was 90 reduced to 9.
5 Looking forward to a bath.

Love Kettles Yard &, we look out for that shop next time we are that side of town
For yesterday,
Into horsey town to pick up a parcel, messaged my friend and we met up for a quick coffee.
At the stables, a friend rode my girlie and boy did she make her work, every time they went past the gate she looked at me as if to say what on earth is happening!
Made it up to her with a cool hose down, several treats and an apple.
Warm in the afternoon, bit of pottering around in the garden and then come inside for a nap.
Tasty tea, veggie burgers with a green bean & feta salad8 -
Thursdays, because I got sidetracked.
1.Outdoor shower.
2. Weeded the pumpkin patch.
3. Talked to Mr Jones, my bestest buddy.
4. Reported baby spider plants. Going to have to start giving them away as I have so many.
5. More raspberries.2013 NSD 100. CC2014CC- £31.50/£1352014 NSD 86 so far - May 20/212014 G/C spend £741.55 so far May £107.99/£91Debt Free - 30.05.13 Emergency tin - £1000June 23 - 9NSD8 -
Thursday was a very quiet day after we’d been at the beach and todays been quite quiet too.
walked in the drizzly rain early this morning which was the precursor to much heavier rain 10 minutes later! Phew! Then I’d a meeting for a work event next month. Went well and so much work to do before it but I’ll get there! Then it was home and just pottered around.Made a nice pasta dish for tea.And I’m planning on an early night.9 -
Hi everyone.
Well, a strange day here weather-wise. Hot and sunny this morning, now cloudy and distinctly chilly. We are forecast a very hot weekend so it needs to crack on a bit.
Today's pleasures:
1) A day of pottering and organising and channelling my inner housewife who does not make an appearance very often but when she is in the mood watch out as she is a force to be reckoned with.
2) Another walk and talk with my bairn makes number 4 this week so we are well on our way to becoming the fit family but, boy, does he make me gallop up them there hills. Anyway, I appear to have lost four pounds of surplus to requirements me this week so can't complain and we have had a good four hours of 1:1 conversation, planning and arranging and getting stuff in order - in our heads if nowhere else.
3) We have finally on the fourth attempt got a sensible quote and an arrangement to get our balustrade and handrail thingy sorted outside our front door and steps. Instead of giving you ridiculous quotes or just not answering calls, why can't people just be honest and say they don't want the job. Hubby finished up virtually stalking guy number three til in the end he said he had too much work on - fine, but just tell us. Grr! Anyway, we like this one the best and his price is realistic so fingers crossed...
4) Done stacks of cooking and food prep this aft. Hubby's turn to cook - about once every three months if we are lucky, so tonight we are having spaghetti with roasted vegetables and tomato sauce. I know it will be good because I cooked two trays of roasted veg, made the tomato sauce from scratch and have measured out the spaghetti and grated the Parmesan. He will flounce importantly round the kitchen with a tea towel over his shoulder channelling his inner chef while he cooks the pasta and reheats the sauce, telling me to go and put my feet up while he cooks tea. Bless!
5) He's brought me in some lovely old wooden crates I'd completely forgotten about when I asked him for a box for my art supplies so I'm just about to go and play at sorting all my bits and pieces into a workable order. Timed it right as he's just popped in to made me a cuppa too!
Nice plans for the weekend - hubby's birthday tomorrow - so hope the weather plays ball and that you get some sunshine too.
Happy weekend!8 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Another morning of invigilation.
3) Emailed the solicitor and she replied that she had received all the information I collated. Still no sign that's she's actually doing anything with it...
4) Went to Waitrose for Arabic and a cup of tea.
5) Smaller son agreed to go to the balloon festival !!! We only stayed about 25 minutes (no balloons taking off as it was too windy).
6) Next door's cats are still alive. They are coming back on Monday.
7) Phoned my school friend.7 -
For yesterday,
Small dog had her latest check up at vets, spine pain is still evident so painkillers up’d and had monthly injection as well, pleasure for her when done and we are back in the car. I turn off the passenger air-bag and she rides shotgun next to me, secured with harness of course.
I’d left a loaf to prove so knocked back and then changed the bed while it was on the second prove.
Off to fenny market town for lunch with DSIL, we went to community project supporting youngsters with learning difficulties and had a coffee & panini for £5.
Then to niece’s salon and spent some of my survey money on a facial, lovely lovely and time spent with my gorgeous girl.
Home, joined beloved in garden for sun-downer then cooked steak and chips for tea.7
