Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep. I keep waking up early (the heat?) but then go back to sleep.
2) Park Run! It was very humid today but we all made it round. My sister and niece met us all at the end and we had cakes, drinks and fruit. For some reason, we were all talking about weight in kg and stones and whether we could pick each other up. I ended up picking up 3 men, the tallest being 6 feet 7! I think it comes from a childhood of carrying hay bales and sheep.
3) Went out for lunch with my parents and sister at the local farm shop cafe.
4) Bigger son popped in for a chat.
5) Absolute drama throughout the day. I am feeding next door's cats and their door has the old fashioned style key (not Yale). It was in the shirt pocket last night and I took it out when I changed for bed and put it on the bedside table. This morning, I knew I had brought the key and a cup downstairs. Went to feed the cats (locked in next door). No key.
It took us 6 hours to find it. We nearly dismantled the sofa. We went through the clean washing and the stuff in the washing machine. I went through the rubbish bin and the recycling. Every drawer and cupboard was searched. I pulled one of the kitchen drawers out too hard so it shot straight out and went on the floor and a bottle of fountain pen ink smashed.
My brother texted to talk about going through the things I did last night and this morning (though I had retraced my steps 20 times!) He asked what I was wearing when I got up and went downstairs this morning - a t shirt. As I typed that, I noticed my dressing gown on the back of the door and there was the key, in the pocket! So the cats were fed and were both fine.
6) Bought the season tickets for the football.
7) Made a nice tea of chicken shawarma and salad plus coleslaw.
8) My brother popped round.8 -
For yesterday,
Another one who didn’t sleep so well, big pot of coffee helped.
To the stables, my girlie was first asleep when I got there and it was a good few minutes before she woke up. She obviously feels very secure and happy in her stable to lay down asleep or perhaps it’s being out all night gallivanting in her field! When she finally woke up I gave her a long groom and tidied up her mane, the sparrows were picking up the long bits of hair off the floor and disappearing with it.
It was a very hot day so I was pleased to get home and have a cool shower.
Off to DB’s for a birthday party for great nephew, saw some folk hadn’t seen for awhile and it was nice to catch up, oh and have cake of course ☺️Watched a bit of Glastonbury but turned off when G&R came on and played a few games of Yahtzee.8 -
Good morning. Another glorious day here. Apologies to all those who are too hot but I just love this weather!
Not too much happening but that's fine by us.
I went to the funeral of a dear friend on Friday. DH had to miss it as he still gets very tired. I was a bit worried because I didn't have any black, but lightweight, clothes and no time to go shopping. I wore a navy tea dress but I needn't have worried. Outfits varied from head to toe black, to black trousers and bright pink top. And it felt fine. She was a lovely lady. I will miss her.
DD came yesterday with fiance and was pleased with the improvement she saw in DH. She hasn't seen him for a week so I suppose it's more measurable to her. I felt he was improving but it's nice to have a second opinion!
It was so warm yesterday we sat out in the garden in the evening until 10 o' clock. With a glass of wine for me and water for DH. It felt wonderful.
Was going to do oven veg and fish for tea but it's much too hot to have the oven on. Will have to think again!
Happy 🌞day everyone8 -
Morning everyone.
The makings of another hot day here today.
Happycas - lovely to hear your hubby is progressing and improving.
Yesterday's pleasures:
1) Hubby's birthday, still 6 years younger than me but we could sing the 'When I'm 64' song to him today.
2) Went to a local-ish Sculpture Park for the day. Amazing works of art, gorgeous sunshine, lots of healthy walking between the pieces of art - over 5 miles in total - so he earned a cake with his afternoon cuppa which pleased him greatly.
3) I have been looking for a silver bracelet for literally years, everywhere we go. All mine have been 'pretend' so the finish has always worn off, not very glamorous, and I have a very small wrist so most I try are too big. Anyway, today I found the perfect one, fits perfectly and is a total one off, definitely worth the wait.
4) Sat on the balcony of the restaurant after our big walk to cool down up among the trees. Just perfect.
5) Didn't go out for a meal as 'the wedding' is in two weeks and we trying to be good so had prepped an easy and scrummy tea in advance and we binge-watched a series on Netflix that my bairn recommended. Lots of exercise and fresh air and a full tummy and late night meant we slept like logs last night.
A lazy-ish day in store today, hope you enjoy your Sunday.9 -
Oh dear! It was back to work today after twelve very nice days off! Needs must 😆
Set alarm clock early and we were at the beach for just after 5am. Don’t normally go on a work day but just felt the need to finish off my holiday! The most stunning sunrise behind me as I drove.Work was actually okay…think I overthink things at times!Excellent tips! And busy but not crazily…more steadily.Doggy had company in the afternoon and then was delighted to see me when I got home.Had some chicken sausages for tea.And it has lashed with rain here most of the day, really heavy stuff but currently sunny.
Messages and pics from my traveling girl. And the joy of a cold shower to try and cool down after a day in an exceptionally hot kitchen! One done one to go!9 -
Thanks to McCulloch, & is reminded to wish Frith a much less stressy end to birthday today than key horrors start!
Hope you're having an Others Doing Things For You Day today, with cake!.....as many others here will chorus!
Bon anniversaire! 😀

1. Helped young PhD 4th yr and rower T to sort a new bike from OAP acquaintance, former engineer, within fenny environs. All parties very pleased. Dropped T+Trek bike back to Town of Gown, thence & back to P&R for bus to CUBG again. First day of new CUBG pass.
2. Another glorious day with the botanics. 32⁰ minimum + big breeze. Found little higher up hidey spot from several years ago - still there, with seat....and then with &. Happily there until chuck-out bell sounded, then back through gigantic gunnera wilderness by stream, out to P&R bus back.
3. Currently up on Gog Magogs under shady 8' high masses of wild campanula gone rogue.
4. Lovely msg exchanges with DoR's Oz wife re:various sthgs. Youngest child about to end last year of school. More lovely msgs with mhags ♡. These bookended lovely rl catch-up with Spitalfields M, still there at end of his Trumpington carboot. Usually away by 6ish after 4am set-up.
5. Treated self to CUBG tote bag, mainly as weight of Thermos, munch, water bottle, book and shoulder bag was straining other one. Wise decision.
