Evening all
DforV - the 'hack' is to use Frenchic 'creme de la creme' paint onto the wood (i used 2 coats) then layers of browning wax brushed on till you get the depth of colour you want. I used one layer that i rubbed in and off as i went and two more brushed on and left - then a buff at the end.
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Made a vegetable casserole for tea - used up a wrinkly pepper and wrinkly celery with some rather more fresh stuff.
2. Got in a walk going to villa park and back to the car after...
3. Villa v Man. u. I went cos DS was at work so i used his season (with OH), I wanted to see Ronaldo (he was pants! but did have a punch up). The fact that Villa won 3-1 was a bonus
4. gin and nuts when we got back while i recooked the casserole, with its topping
5. watched an episode of our latest programme - I 'may' have snoozed though.
And today
1. Had a lovely lie in (till 6.45 lol, but the first 8 hour sleep I've had for weeks)
2. had to be the 'fridge fairy' as we were a bit old mother hubbard. DS was delighted
3. a walk in the park with some friends i hadn't seen in ages.
4. Lovely tea of lentil shepherds pie from the freezer
5. watching I'm a celeb.
Laters allI wanna be in the room where it happens9 -
1 Had to whisk our oldest ferret to the vets first thing as soon as they opened, thankfully touch wood it should be treatable, but having to syringe her something that tastes awful que a treat for starter, then syringe antibiotics in that half goes in and half gets spat about, followed by painkiller disguised as a treat. Fingers crossed as it is a sudden bad infection, we’ve caught it fast, but it seems very bad, failing the worst outcome, she may be left disabled but she’s ours and we’ll look after her. The vet knows us and is happy we will. We will see how she responds to the meds this week.
2 Meal planned for the day tonight is 3 bean chilli with tortillas.
3 Parcelled up a top on free returns to drop back to the post office.
4 There was a 10-minute nap.
5 Seeing the woodpecker again, it’s started its winter feasting.

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Bigger son reappeared. He had slept in his van overnight.
3) I phoned the estate agent (after a week, the house still isn't online!), the medical centre for smaller son and did various admin type jobs.
4) We did not do English teaching today but had a games afternoon. I ended up in a long conversation (good old Google Translate) about fishing licences! Then some British politics so I taught my person the expression "as much use as a chocolate teapot", which is about all you need politically at the moment.
5) Used up the few pounds left on an Aldi voucher.
6) High drama as I drove home from Aldi as I could smell fuel then realised it was bucketing out of the back of the bus I was following! As I said to the lady I phoned in a panic, not a trickle but pouring out. The bus went into the bus station so I couldn't follow it but I pulled over and phoned and she was going to run and intercept it. They are an appalling company and two of bigger son's school buses set on fire (then burned to a crisp) on the same stretch of road, a year apart!
7) Tasty tea of LO chicken wings, mashed potato and green beans.
8) Had a zoom meeting about plans for the asylum seekers before/after Christmas. We are trying to organise a few things.
9) Watching I'm a Celebrity.
10) My school friend sent us a parcel so I am just eating part of the contents.8 -

2. my brilliant neighbours who look after the doggie in the afternoon when I work.
3. trains aligned on way home.
4. DM got the all clear following a chest scan which showed a shadow.5. Have spent the last 2 weekends with my ds1 & dd visiting, had fun. So glad I have a good relationship with them both7 -
For yesterday,
Into horsey town for a food shop, Waitrose had 6 English braeburn apples for £1, oddly shaped but taste lovely.
Made a loaf, did some admin and surveys.
Over to see pony, she was a mud monster after a day out in the field but keeps me busy.
Tea was rtc salmon with a lentil & veg made up thingy!
Watched the next round draw and if we win our replay we have the Admiral’s team next. Yes, Monday night is quiz night so much confusion over rescheduling, found some Big Bang to watch instead.8 -

Good afternoon
S Sue - so glad you're back among us but so sorry you're feeling low. I do hope you can find a few pleasures. Certainly sounds as if your granddaughter gave you a much needed lift.
Our neighbour came round last night to tell us about a burst water pipe at the end of the street. Water was running down the road like a stream. We filled pans and buckets. Today the water board have been and dug holes. They've managed to stop the leak without turning the water off. However, as they've left a hole with a fence round at the end of the street, the filled pans and buckets can remain in situ for a while.
Why are there no ginger biscuits? In the last fortnight I've been to three different supermarkets and no gingers to be had. Today I gave up, bought ground ginger ( no shortage of that!) and made my own. Had to use the air fryer because I'm neurotic about switching the oven on ( smart meter goes crazy!) But they're lovely. Varying shades of brown and crispness but that just makes things more interesting.
Happy quiz night everyone

I'm sorry you are feeling low, SuffolkSue.
Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) The house went on the market at 9am. It is only on the estate agent's website at the moment (they also email it out to people on their mailing list). Someone phoned at 10 and they have a viewing on Friday! It will be going on RightMove in 2 hours (if it is automated, otherwise in the morning).
3) Went to town to do the charity shops and found a Gudrun Sjoden dress for £8. I do like her stuff but have only bought from charity shops or from Ebay.
4) Went to the museum cafe for a cup of tea.
5) Had a walk along the boundary of the safari park. I had a chat with a toddler and her mum about listening to the lions roaring. Walked round to look at the rhinos.
6) Bigger son and his girlfriend here at about 5pm and they made the chicken/salami recipe they had cooked in the van and we had that with some part baked rolls and cheese.
7) Sitting in bed listening to our football team on the radio. I want to ask their player ambassador if they can donate some old shirts or equipment but he is literally running around at the moment and has just been handed the captain's armband so he won't be reading any emails from me for about 55 minutes!
8) Will watch the GBBO later.
I have my covid/flu jab tomorrow but over the past few hours I have started to feel ill. I think I finally caught bigger son's cold.9 -
Hello. Late for me. Friend just away home.Walk down woods this morning. Squirrels, deer and birdies. A few hellos to real dog walkers 😆😆
Walked home via supermarket. Well that’s when the rain started! Got a tad soaked on the way back as I had only worn a gilet.Home and hoovered and washed floors and got everything back where it goes having had visitors and then working days. Bathrooms cleaned.Had a freebie at hairdressers. The junior was giving me a wash and blow dry under supervision. Took a while but hey I had nothing else to do and came out looking lovely!Home. And made a chicken and veggie pie with leeks and random frozen veggies that were in the freezer. Served with half a leftover baked potato from work which was roasted with carrots and parsnips and then steamed cabbage, broccoli and sprouts ( real food PP if you’re about! ) no pudding tonight, had enough chicken and veg mix left to fill a small dish and that’s in the freezer.Friend came over. Just the two of us tonight so we just sat on the sofas and ate our tea. Blethered and laughed and enjoyed dinner. She brought me 2 beautiful bunches of flowers from her son’s
partner. I’d recently passed on something I didn’t need anymore and wasn’t expecting anything for it so that was a lovely surprise. And apart from the horrific amount of rain we’ve had it’s been a good day.10 -

3. greetings by my woofer on my return from work.
4. watched gbbo.
5. In bed ready to sleep, been up since 4. On nights tomorrow.10
