That was a busy day, MHags!
Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Good to get up after another shocking sleep.
2) Went into town to try and find a wardrobe clothes rail type thing. Our wardrobes are an old Ikea one where bigger son cobbled together sliding doors from the existing hinged doors (there wasn't enough room to get the doors open!) The other one had to be sawn in half (don't ask) to get it up the stairs then rebuilt... I'm trying to get rid of the worst of our grotty furniture before putting the house on the market...
3) Got a few bits from Sainsburys. Paid my cheque in at the post office.
4) Swept the front of the house where straw keeps falling off the wagons. Lots of conkers hiding underneath so I put the best in our geocache and someone might take them.
5) A tasty tea of roast chicken, stuffing, carrots, leeks and bread sauce. Enough left over for one of my trademark roast dinner pies for tea tomorrow. Then made some cinnamon buns which were the food of the Gods, if I say so myself!
6) My brother popped up for a cup of tea.
7) Went for a walk in the dark and the rain.
Still extremely mithered about what to do re the cinema voluntary job. I can't see a way I can deal with all the people, stress and hours needed next week. I can't imagine trying to explain it in a text (obviously I will have to say something so they can find a replacement). I'm also obsessed with the fact that I left the doors open yesterday and someone would have had to find the key to shut them again properly. Perhaps someone broke in through them and stole everything!7 -

1) got a chunky stamp duty refund this week as we sold our old house. We filed and paid our self assessments early (no December panic YAY) so some went straight back to HMRC, then bought new axes for wood chopping, tucked away cash for Christmas and my birthday, sent DHs granddad's omega off for repair and put money into the oil category on YNAB. I'm also going to order some electric blankets for the two beds that dont have them and jump on the airfryer trend too.
2) REALLY enjoyed work this week. Get such a buzz out of it. Feel very lucky!
3) Food shop came. Managed to fill cupboard to bursting and have a nice meal plan for the week. Some will end up in freezer as DH has to go to England twice for work next week. I almost did too, but my team are flying here instead, that would've been a hectic week!
4) DH was stressed after a tough day at work so took it out on our woodpile and cut down a few days worth of logs5) Yummy friday night treat. Vegan 'southern fried chicken' salad wraps and HM sweet potato chips.4 -
For yesterday,
To the garden centre in the village as they have a good selection of greeting cards and wanted one for DN, also picked up some spring bulbs and two trays of violas / pansies. Got home and realised had no potting compost left so that’s a journey for today.
Still mild but breezy and all of sudden the grass is covered in beech leaves.
Mini sort of clothes and a bag put by for the CS.
With pony, just a good groom and some carrot stretches, our new yard is a friendly place and it’s nice to have people to chat to.
Tea was Shepherds Pie with red cabbage then caught up with GW, I like seeing the new pup playing in the background.8 -
Good morning. Very rainy so I've no excuse! Housework it is then!
Ampersand - hope you're starting to feel a bit better. Do let us know, when you have some connection!
Frith - you really don't need to add this extra hassle to your life! That sort of thing is bad enough when you're getting paid.
Went on a hunt for smart black trousers yesterday. It seems very difficult to buy any that are not 'ankle grazers'. I'm tall. Ankle grazers will be calf length on me. Plus I've spent a lot of my life trying to get trousers that are long enough! Eventually tracked down a nice pair that fit. That's half of smart-night-out-wear sorted. Tops are much easier.
Somehow had two lots of feta cheese in the fridge! Made a lovely Greek salad to go with pizza and jackets.
Bought some special MnS biscuit tins for Christmas presents yesterday! Early I know but they're rather sweet, and might sell out!
Happy wet day everyone

Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Did sleep from 12-3 (rare) but then awake until 5.30. More hours in total than normal, though.
2) Send a necessary text, including details of my mental health (or lack thereof). Nearly fell over in embarrassment, but it is done now. Took me 2 days to think what to write! I received a sensible reply, with no words of shock, horror or surprise.
3) Phoned the estate agent and he is coming over tomorrow! House will be going on the market...
4) Smaller son not very well the last couple of days (sore throat etc) so he decided not to come into town with me. I went to Sainsburys and bought one of those clothing rails that has a tent like thing over the top. My aim was to smash up the 2 existing scrap wardrobes but they are decidedly solid! Bigger son moved all the tools when we dismantled the shed so I was going at it with my Swiss army knife and a small screwdriver. I have left the wardrobes for now but have built the new one.
5) Tasty tea of roast dinner pie (leftovers with a puff pastry top) then we had roast chestnuts.
6) Bigger son met his 2 friends in Amsterdam and cooked them hot dogs in his van!
7) I believe there has been a reprise (?) of the light house renovation in Grand Designs so I'm going to watch that just now. 2 hot water bottles and a cup of tea at the ready.6 -
Gosh Friday already! That’s what happens when you crash out early on Thursday! Hopefully nearly at the end of jet lag! ( I’m always usually around 10 days either way)
Anyway for Thursday! Well the stuff I’d left in DD2 car had to come in before she went to work. Sigh! My despair at the pile of stuff in my open plan no where to hide it entry way! Through out the course of the day I managed to probably go through half of it. So far two bags worth for charity. I’ve just been out and put a pile out for recycling bin today. A few things being collected for free tomorrow. And then another few bags to sort out, mostly ( I think) cleaning products which will probably just go under my kitchen sink and be used up over the next 100 years!Had a lovely chat with DD1. They’ve had so much rain and flooding and more of the same forecast fromtoday.Quick chat to sister.Had to go into town to solicitors to sign paperwork. With a bit of a gulp this is it.Met friend who’d been round the afternoon before as I was coming out of my car once home so had another chat with her. Then was introduced to a new puppy in the street as they walked past!Wasn’t long in and the very heavy rain started so was glad I’d missed that
Watched a bit of catch up telly as I emptied boxes and bags.Friend called. She’d seen one of the things I’d posted for free so could she have one. Of course and then managed to fob off a drill and a clothes airier! Then jet lag decided it was bedtime! Which was ridiculously early! Had to force myself to go downstairs and check doors / blinds etc.
So today is the day that mums house is sold ( hopefully as sister had to courier her paperwork because of mail strike) and that will be that. After fifty plus years it will be someone else’s home. I’d kind of said goodbye to the house as I emptied it over the summer and kept saying I need it to go so I can move on but oooft when it’s actually the day. However one ( huge) less thing for me to stress over…just going to stress over an excess of cleaning products instead 😆 ( which are all things I will use! )
As I said to the solicitor yesterday…onwards.8 -
Huzzah to sending that text Frith and getting a decent response.
Onwards indeed Mhags
For yesterday,
Off to horsey town for a food shop, it was raining so hard that the emporium sprung a leak!
The rain meant no playing outside and had to crack on with housework, as always the pleasure is when done.
A soup kind of day so that’s what we had for lunch, red pepper from the freezer.
Over to see pony, oh you’ve enjoyed the mud haven’t you! She had had a rain sheet on so body not so bad, just the neck & face to deal with, special mention to the mud dreadlocks in her mane.
The skies cleared just in time for last dog walk of the day, lovely sunset as well.7 -
Well done Frith and Mhags😊
Recent pleasures:
Nice pub lunch and chat with 2 oldest friends
Hopefully resorted my flu jab out for Saturday (ongoing saga!)
Wander round local lovely park to see the trees turning to Autumn 🍂 colours
Took another friend to local hospital appointment yesterday, driving through the pouring rain. Quick appointment, so called in at big Tesco (25% off wine 🍷😊) mooch round Matalan (bought nothing) then another mooch around big garden centre and looking at their Christmas 🎄 displays (again bought nothing). Another! Pub lunch afterwards.
Probably a Lidl shop today and a day to myself, which I enjoy 😊
Have a good Friday everyone 😊8 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep and even a nice dream about a steam train!
2) Cleaned the house ready for the estate agent (not that he ventured away from the dining table). Cleaned the bathroom (including washing the walls down), hoovered and steamed the floors downstairs, cleaned the stairs, tidied up, all washing away etc.
3) My brother came round at lunchtime and smashed up the 2 old wardrobes for me. All the wood is now in the garden so I can drive it to put on his Hallowe'en bonfire, at my leisure.
4) The estate agent came round at 4 and I was surprised how much is done online. (I bought my house 23 years ago, so I think a lot of things are going to surprise me). I've got to get an EPC (existing rating is F, but it has had new windows, insulation plus central heating since then). Also got to appoint a solicitor and I said I would write the information about the house ready to go online. The photographer is coming on Hallowe'en!
5) Went for a walk in the forest. Didn't see any deer but pretty sure I saw one in the usual clearing as I drove home.
6) In bed with 2 hwb and have been watching television. The final episode of Mock the Week just now.7 -
huge hugs frith this is the best thread for pleasures but also for supporting each other through tuff times xxx
can't believe i haven't posted since monday. it's been a busy week so let's think...
1) tuesday church meeting, had mobile under table so saw when Luton scored winning goal but couldn't cheer 🤣
2) wednesday called in mennies and was pleasantly surprised the landlord has amazon prime - watched liverpool with mrg
3) thursday texted DrM to welcome him back (he's been in canada for 10 days, timed it so the text would arrive UK side so within his text plan, very mse thoughtful!)) to let him know i'd be in for leicester game no worries if he was zonked - he did indeed turn up, we won 2-0 then home
4) after early phd meeting took morning off to spend time with mum - we went to the tip then botanics then her old house - had super chat and cuppa with the tenants who happen to be very good friends
5) after lunch went to uni event - friend's retirement, he has worked at the botanics since 1972!!! DrM was there as was the uni secretary
6) then off to phoenix to celebrate my chair with life sciences mates - the novelty will wear off but not yet 😎😎😎
