5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

1. A long walk and picked blackberries. There are so many around this year. Spoke with various people who I met. Three had come specifically to see the waterfall. This is a stream where the water does fall but only about 2 foot. The boys loved playing in it when they were younger to try and build a dam.
2. Made blackberry jam when I got home. I now have enough to last me for the year and I love seeing the jars lined up.
3. Went to the local garden centre (family owned) and got 6 plants to add to my hanging baskets as they suffered when we were away and they look so much better now.
I will feel positive when I come home and see them rather than thinking that's one job I have to do.
4. Long chat with a neighbour about something she was asked to do by another neighbour. She has decided not to do it but wanted to know whether she was being too sensitive about the situation. I didn't think she was.
5. For the first time in ages we went to the cinema, also going again this evening, we saw Fisherman's friends. I enjoyed it. DH had some vouchers for Cineworld for his birthday and DS1 had told us on Friday that they are in verge of bankruptcy so we thought we better go this weekend.8 -
Recent pleasures;
Took old HT round for a drive to show her where she could park for easy access to our local country park.
Friend round for lunch, mussels in wine, tiramisu for dessert then in the hot tub. Early anniversary celebration of a takeaway curry with OH that evening, no wonder indigestion kept me awake!
Saturday morning shopping with OH, for anniversary presents (it’s 20 years!), a Radley smart watch for me and spiced rum and a selection of beers for him! Brunch out, full English breakfast for him and a bacon roll for me at his favourite cafe.
We bought paint whilst we were out and OH rubbed down an old metal table and started painting it and I painted the eyesore concrete back of the garage, but my small pot of chalk white masonary paint turned out to be dark beige so will have to do it again!
A dip in the hot tub, followed by supper of pita bread and hummus whilst watching a Bond film, Goldeneye, shouldn’t have bothered!
have a good Sunday everyone 😊9 -
hugs mhags sometimes a big cry is the best thing to do. I hope you also had emotional space to reflect on the wonderfulness of that day and the many many good times together.
DD1 is back home - sent amusing posts throughout her overnight stay in hospital - the Dutch equivalent for nil by mouth is nuchter which literally means sober
For yesterday
1) super brunch with friends (2 of whom widowed recently after very long and happy marriages) - we laughed so much we cried 2) DS phoned - first week at his new job going well, he is moving to a cheaper hotel and plans to stay there till he has bought a flat so his weekends are going to be busy
3) Luton's first win of the season BOP
4) gbf back from 3 weeks in New York - I had a voucher for cake and hot drinks for 2 at the garden centre
5) then we walked the dogs up Balgay which was lovely. (Not so lovely was the 500 plastic sword-shaped cocktail sticks which had been dropped all over the path - gbf kept the boys at a distance while I disposed of them! Below is the remains having already put the majority in the bin).MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hello. Let’s go out for dinner said DD2, seems everyone had the same idea and probably the sense to book! No room at any inn . Just drop me off back home please ( I’ll just eat biscuits)
Anyway. Big worky day number one done. Was okay. And decent tips.Nice doggy walk this morning. Just us out.
Picked the last of the peas.Son popped down. Filled my garage with stuff. I dare not look! He’s borrowed my car for a few days. I did not think that through before I kindly offered him! Will certainly get my step count in the next couple of days 🙄
Anyway quick chat, quick hug and off he went. Nice to see him briefly. It’s a very pleasant evening 😎9 -
1) a lazy morning - finished my book, very good - Dead Man's Grave
2) Lunch - https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/apr/16/jack-monroe-spaghetti-alla-puttanesca-recipe very good (added mushrooms and a courgette) other portion in fridge for tomorrow
3) Did some marking then lovely walk with the dogs along the river front to Slessor Gardens
4) Met up with church friends, ate icecream at the lovely Janetta's then up to the Cathedral for the commissioning service for the new Diocesan Youth Worker
5) Walked back along the river, stunning, home to risotto and just taking a little break from the marking - about a fifth of the way through so hope to finish tomorrow (shouldn't have read my book 🤣)MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

I'm going to witter on about something in a minute, so feel free to scroll past...
Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Freecycle lady came for the old fireguard.
3) Did various bits of housework.
4) Put 3 articles on Ebay.
5) Did a load of washing, which has been rained on intermittently since and is still on the line.
6) Watched Casualty.
7) Eagle eyed readers will know I do not go out in the evening. (Combination of no money, having to leave smaller son on his own, living miles from anywhere and general lethargy. Plus, all my old friends live hundreds of miles away). Today, I went to a "do" to say thank you to the volunteers who have worked over the last couple of weeks. I put on a fresh t shirt, realised halfway through putting them on that I hadn't worn earrings for a year (hammered them in - aargh!) and set off not feeling particularly chatty or hopeful. To be fair, at no point in life do I ever feel chatty. Also, looking back, having your first child 25 days after handing in your final piece of university work is not conducive to sitting around in people's houses, listening to albums or watching tv or whatever together... It is something I haven't done since 1998.
Anyway, there were 6 people there tonight. Cups of tea were drunk. It was like the old days (though different people). I had a sausage roll. We all enjoyed it and might do it again. And then I had to get in my little car and come home and that is that, for however many weeks. Or possibly years. Also, I went to the toilet during the evening and the fluorescent lighting made me look 150 years old and a massive white hair was running across the top of my head (not even the normal ones at the sides!), shining like a beacon in the black hair. Dear me. And (cringes) about 3 days ago I realised that I am (let's say it in code) in a DrM situation. I don't like that. I spoke to my friend about it on the phone and she said it'll be fine, he'll say something stupid or have an irritating habit, you just haven't spotted it yet. (The last time this happened, I realised I could hear the man in question breathing out loudly through his nose and that was the end of that). This man breathes normally. There is still nothing untoward or irritating that I can find. His eyelashes were as marvellous as they were the other day. It'll pass, as it always does. I have now been single (apart from a few distractions) for nearly 19 years...10 -
1. Had some blackberry jam on toast for breakfast. It tasted good which was good as I hadn't made any last year .
2. Went to walk round Wisley with DH. A lovely walk and the new vegetable garden looked fantastic.
3. Had lunch with DH cousin and husband. We went somewhere for a roast. It wasn't as good as the usual Chinese we go to. The service not as good and more expensive. Company was excellent as usual.
4. Managed to do some work in the garden - watering and some weeding.
5. Went to the cinema to watch Top Gun Maverick. We both enjoyed it but probably wouldn't have gone to the cinema to watch it if we weren't using up the vouchers.

Made me smile Frith, long eyelashes are very attractive and if nothing else you had a good evening out.
For yesterday,
Up early and a walk around the fields with small dog, left Capt S snoozing in bed.
Breakfast, the Archers and then lots of pottering around the garden.
I did a roast dinner for the first time in what felt like months, chicken with all the trimmings, followed by Portuguese custard tarts with strawberries & cream.
Reading my book in the garden, trying to concentrate on the shenanigans of the Tudor court but my eyes kept drooping after such a big lunch.
We have seen a cat on the field cam on several occasions but yesterday I went to close the living room curtains and there it was, a big grey tabby laying on the grass under the apple tree. It looked well fed and looked after so presume it’s come across the fields from one of the houses there.
Last episode of Van der Valk, have really enjoyed.7 -

And the working week is done! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!Woke to labyrinthitis this morning. Had an idea it was coming last night. I can’t even describe how it feels the night before as it’s nothing like the actual thing but just an inkling that somethings not quite right. Oh I was so dizzy this morning. It’s just horrid. If you can imagine doing a dizzy doggy walk! Yuk! But it was just us.Then a dizzy walk to work. Was in early as I had catering to do first. It was still dark at 5.30am when I went out with dog. But lighter at 5.50am when I was walking.Colleague kindly ran me home at 10am to see to doggy ( son has car for a few days but couldn’t have driven this morning anyway) and then I walked back. Thankfully just spitting with rain and got back to work before it got heavy. An okay shift. And good tips. Colleague dropped me home too. What a welcome from my doggy. This was his longest stretch on his own since he had surgery so he’s kind of out the way of being left alone that long but was fine. Just needed a pee, his dinner then a cuddle.Hot shower and jammies on. Going nowhere else tonight.8
