Pleasures for today (Thursday). Written strangely early as I'm at a loose end until I start making the tea.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Didn't go to the cinema today as I wanted to finish off the garden revamping job. Went to Waitrose first and looked round the charity shops. Found bigger son a very glossy posh book about camper van cooking. (He doesn't have a VW camper but everything else will be useful when he is travelling).
3) Took broken slabs from the garden to my brother to use where the tractor chews the drive to mud. Took unbroken/nearly perfect slabs to the allotment.
4) Messed with garden again for a few hours. It is such thick clay. Yesterday I broke the handle off the broom. Today I wanted to move a bit of edging along a bit and I bent a piece of metal I was using to lever it. Then I broke the handle of the spade! It is done now. All edging in place, a few pots of things planted in the garden. Swept and tidied and did some pruning. Let down by TWO freecycle people now so have listed the 2 Belfast sinks on FB marketplace.
5) The asylum seekers English teaching organiser has got back to me so I need to give her a ring and fill in a form.

1 When we go out with the ferrets, we have a bag for when they get over tired where no one can get to them, it’s handmade, at the bottom of the bag it’s got a zip area in the floor, where I put a bottle of ice, to keep them cool through the material. It has a pocket at the front where I pop my phone. It’s a lot of work to re make from scratch, I had a velvet skirt that’s of no use, but I kept as it’s good quality material, so I cut it to fit around the top and I have hand sewn it on the front and over the top to part of the inside, cutting room for the straps, it was literally hours of work. I showed DH and he was completely non pulsed – I’m feeling underwhelmed oh well.
2 The house is clean again, bits not done yesterday were done today, and several loads line drying - that should tempt the rain.
3 Made a curry from scratch, it smelt lovely cooking through.
4 I’ve just cooked up 3 blackberry and apple crumbles and it's only used half the blackberries, so I've frozen the rest.

Thanks all for your continued support and kind words.
hugs highdays
goodness mhags glad dd recovered well. my sister hasn't asked once about my dd1. siblings are a strange lot!
1) dd1 sent photo of herself in the hospital - transfusion of platelets in preparation for biopsy tomorrow - she is very upbeat
2) lovely posts between the 3 siblings on the family whatsapp - son is loving that the hotel replaces his biscuits every day
3) good evening last night with Dr M et al - we watched the game standing in the bar - with the draft from the door open behind me and having to stand on tip toe a few times to see over people Dr M said it was just like the terraces. I said we should get Mr E (who doesn't like football) a high viz vest and he could stand in front of us with his back to the match 😎
4) have been invited to do a workshop in Cairo in November - never been to Egypt before
5) lovely long chat on the phone with dad while i was walking the dogs - ended up outside the church where DD2 was just finishing guides (she's a leader) and handed the phone over to her

gran3 thank you for your concern. I just have to keep going as there is literally no one else to do it. And if we ( without sounding mercenary ) want the most we can get from the house sale it has to be clean and tidy ( meanwhile still looking like an old lady lived in it for years) and all I shall say on family is that is why my friendships are so important to me!I tried slowing down on Tuesday and I realised I’m not quite ready to yet😆 I’m no longer doing the second job which was just over the school holidays so that’s much better. In so many ways 😆
Once the house is sold will be the time to sit down and slow down.9 -
Will keep everything crossed that all goes well today DD.
For yesterday,
Quick visit to the emporium for a few treats for the weekend.
Over to see equine girlie, had just got her in when the heavens opened so just a bit of a pamper, she was in a very cuddly mood today and a one point we just stood with our heads touching as I scratched her neck, love my pony.
No choice but to put her back out in the rain, she didn’t mind at all but I was just in a t-shirt and shorts so got soaked down to my undies, Capt S did have to smile when I got home looking like a drowned rat.
Off to see elderly pal in the afternoon, she was a bit fed up what her poorly leg etc but we soon got to talking about her childhood and she sang me a song that she learnt to perform in front of the whole school, Walking in the clouds by Deanna Durbin (sp?) so found it on YouTube for her.
Home and sat in the garden reading until in to make tea, very different book now, the historical novel The Mirror and the Light and the last in the trilogy about Thomas Cromwell.9 -
Good afternoon
D Doll - fingers crossed and breath held that all goes well today!
Highdays - it would be very strange if you didn't feel adrift really. Losing a parent is a huge thing. Hugsx
PK - the ferret carrier sounds very inventive. Well done.
Back to nice days again here. Sunny but not searing hot. Just lovely really.
Shopping this morning. I'm looking for a lacy camisole to wear under a somewhat plunging wrap round dress. Rare as hen's teeth. Especially if you want silky with a straight front. I shall persevere!
Just finished a new to me John Grisham. Was good. Have passed it on to DS as I know he'll understand all the stock market jargon better than I do.
Very pleased Shetland has reappeared. Otherwise it's old Endeavour and Vera all the way!
Lasagne for tea. Kindly made for us by MnS. I used to make my own but it's a frightful faff and uses every pan you have so I'm afraid I'm lazy now!
Happy Friday everyone

Hello again. What a caring, supportive group this is, lovely to be here.DD and mhagster, thoughts and good wishes for both your DDs.Purple_kitten - how I long for one of your bags (do you do people-sized ones?), what a wonderful, thoughtful thing to do, your DH may not have been impressed but I certainly am.Today's pleasures:1) Had a bit of quiet down-time in the last day or so, much needed and feel a bit more balanced.2) Support from the most unexpected of places, really lovely.3) The cashier in the supermarket was very understanding when I burst into tears because she had been kind to me (oh dear!).4) Re-watching Schitt's Creek, about all my brain can cope with at the moment but strangely comforting and short episodes so not too much concentration needed!5) Home feels like a safe, peaceful haven right now, totally take it for granted normally as a base to live life from but, right now, it is wrapping itself around me and gives me a lot of quiet solace.Oh dear, today's pleasures all seem a bit melancholy, didn't know they were going to turn out quite like that!Hope you are all having a good Friday.10
