Hello. Sunshine after very heavy showers. 🌈
Up early.Dropped DD2 off at work so she didn’t have to walk too far.Went to big supermarket. Got a few things in the sale for upcoming trip. Also ordered new prescription sunglasses as current ones have old prescription. Used second job money for those things.Went to B&Q ( blah!) and got mulch. Extremely heavy! Then went in search of drawer handles. In every shop then went back to the first one and got some. Went through till at half price so got more. Now have a complete set on the drawers I upcycled from mums weeks ago.I don’t really like shopping in big shops. Much prefer small independent shops.Home. Hello doggy. Washing in and washing out. Then hoovered and washed floors and had a snoozette.Picked up DD2 then round to mums to meet someone who was picking up something from there. Dropped off mulch…a job for tomorrow.9 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) A good sleep!
2) Worked at the cinema from 10.30 - about 4. Today we did a lot of making the spotlights work and screwing rows of seats back to the floor. At one point, we had a rather quiet volunteer standing on the stage (so spotlights could be adjusted to fall on him). We had music playing while we were working and I realised his arms were starting to move just slightly in vague actions to the music!
3) I made a phone call (which turned into a half hour chat) and now should have a volunteer job helping asylum seekers with their English, starting in September. Smaller son has joked that I can barely speak English myself! I am totally confused how to find my ongoing DBS check. I was paying £13 a year but seem unable to log on or find any reference to it.
4) Got home and sorted the kitchen out and cleaned the bathroom.
5) Smaller son and I had a cheating Indian meal for 2 from Tesco for our tea.
6) Looking forward to the Last Leg.
And, in unlikely news and after 23 years... tomorrow I am going to look round a house that is for sale...7 -
It has been too long since I last posted. He
I stopped as with work, back pain and painkillers it was about all I could do to get through the day and certainly weren't many pleasures.
Feeling much better now and have been away which did me a world of good.
Two weeks in France- eating, drinking, swimming and generally relaxing. It was DH 60th birthday when we were there so both sons and their girlfriends came for a week. It was a lovely celebration and everyone got along well for the majority of the time.
Been home 2 weeks and have caught up in everything I neglected prior to going away!
Now DH has a pension, from an old employment, he doesn't want to stop work but is working slightly less hours my mindset about work has changed. We can afford to live if I don't work but it will help to pay for a better life when we do retire.
For yesterday
1. Walking to a local vineyard for mussels and a couple of glasses of sparkling wine. Spoke to a coup!e as we sat at their table as it was very busy. It is a fairly new business and will hopefully continue to be successful.
2. House is clean and clutter free which is so good mentally.
3. Spoke with a neighbour - she is back from staying with her daughter so dog walking will resume next week. The work she had done on her house is almost complete. It was good to have a chat with her.
4. Chat with other neighbour and she is now speaking to us and has realised the land/ garden issues weren't our fault.
5. Chat with my Dad on the phone. I could tell England were doing badly in the cricket as he turned the tv off when I rang. It was good to catch up with him. He is more positive than he had been in a while which is good.

Welcome back VL and good to hear that things have improved for you x
For yesterday,
Woke up to gentle rain falling which was very welcome.
Tackled Mount Ironmore and all done. Took everything out of wardrobe, gave it a good hoover and popped in a couple of new lavender bags to keep any critters away. Tidied another cupboard that stands in the spare room and put a few bits in a bag for the CS, this included two pairs of short boots that have never been that comfy for me.
Easy lunch of olive rolls with Gorgonzola and tomato.
Lovely friend turned up with her mobile dog grooming parlour and like Mr Benn small dog disappeared in there to emerge an hour later all washed & clipped, much cooler for her. Had a chat with my pal.
Capt S finished work around 4 and we sat in the garden reading for an hour or two, a sundowner was enjoyed.
Embraced my inner Admiral and made smoked haddock kedgeree for tea, then a few games of Yahtzee before watching the Last Leg9 -
Hello. Just waiting on the niecelys coming. We’ve just been down at our local woodland park with them then they’ve nipped to McD for tea!Rubbish sleep. I think I was awake more than I slept. It’s my wedding anniversary today and a big one and I just really felt very cry-y a lot of the day.Dog and I went to my favourite place and had breakfast outside and a very nice walk. After a very wet and very windy start it has turned out to be a lovely day.Round to mums to continue with gardening. It’s not even proper gardening. It’s pulling weeds and sweeping and pruning overgrown branches. Just trying to make it tidier.Home. Cut the grass. Then met the niecelys down the woods. Had a lovely wander. Saw a kingfisher, 2 herons. Lots of ducks and geese and lots of baby rabbits!9

Hi everyone.Today's pleasures, hopefully a bit more positive than yesterday's, let's see.....1) Lovely sunny day, blue sky and fluffy white clouds, bit breezy but warm - just right.2) Lost another two pounds this week, really pleased with that as it would have been so easy to give in to sugary, comfort food this week but I feel better for eating good, wholesome stuff and the weight loss is a bonus.3) My 'walking partner' is away for the weekend so I roped DH into having a walk with me, lovely to be out in the fresh air and moving. Hubby was huffing and puffing a bit by the end (we do quite a hilly route at quite a fast pace) and I wasn't, but it reminded me how unfit I was when I started and how much fitter I am now.4) New recipe book arrived, I m a big fan of Sabrina Ghayour's books and recipes and this one - her latest - looks just as enticing. Not doing too well with the latest Helen Grace book so this will be some nice bedtime reading tonight.5) Have been worried about middle grandson, he has been a bit genny (oops, very northern speak for generally off-colour!) and complained for a few days of a pain in his tummy, he looked generally pale and washed-out too. He doesn't eat terribly well as a rule but his dad, my son, had a chat with him and together they have improved his diet and his water intake. He was keen to do this if it would get rid of the pain and today he said he feels much better and he is a bit more back to his old self. Phew, one less thing to worry about! There, made it! It's so good to concentrate on the pleasures in stressful times, didn't have to dig so deep today.Hope you are enjoying the weekend.10

Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Good to get up after the world's shortest sleep.
2) Went to look round a house. Interesting to see how much room other people live in! The total area of the floors of this house are 10 feet x 18. Could not have tolerated the incredibly loud neighbours on the one side, blowing their cigarette smoke straight over the fence.
3) Bigger son came home! I gave him the books etc for his forthcoming trip. He is still giving up smoking. I think he's on day 11 now.
4) We went to the cinema and I showed bigger son around and he said hello to the other people still working there. He wanted to see where I sit as projectionist so we crept up there and he took a video of it to show his girlfriend.
5) Continued work on the garden. Gave one Belfast sink away to my brother and put a "free" sign on the other and it was taken from the roadside. Nearly all pots emptied out now.
6) Took bigger son back to work (his car isn't insured now as he's about to leave for 3 months).
7) Picked up a Chinese takeaway for smaller son and me on my way home.
8) Phoned my school friend.
ETA 9) I listened to the Harriers' match on the radio downstairs (FM). Smaller son listened to it on the laptop upstairs. The laptop is always behind the radio for live shows. They scored the only goal of the match at 90+4. I had to sit very quietly for 10 seconds so as to not give the game away. Then there was a bellow and drumming of feet from upstairs!8 -
For yesterday,
Bit of a lie-in followed by croissants and coffee.
Spent the rest of the morning with my horse, we had a bit of a wander around the fields and think she enjoyed being out and about, the ground is still very hard and there is no grass to speak of.
Home and hungry so a scotch egg salad for lunch.
Feeling lazy so spent some time in the garden reading, come in to listen to the footie and we got a draw away from home.
Evening walk, the light is very golden now we are moving into late summer and it’s dark by 9pm.7
