Thank you for the Anniversary wishes........
1. Cards exchanged. ❤️

2. More driving practice for DD. Collected an order from Click and Collect, and got some rtc bargains in Mr W on the way back to the car park........Joked with the lovely SA about how cheap my shopping was. I miss those little chats with people. 🙂
3. DD has 2 audition opportunities and DS1 and GF have had their contracts extended for 3 months. 

4. I made Mr Oliver's 'Propper Chicken Pie' for dinner, using up LO chicken and rtc ready rolled pastry. DD had seconds for supper. Very pleased with myself.
5. No wine, as I thought it might encourage weepyness 🤣, but we did have a glass of 'Sherry', ( said in an Uncle Monty voice, if anyone is a fan of Whithnail and I), before bedtime......... (Rock and roll!). 🥳

Bala: I have been using a tree stump as a bird feeding table.........just watching the squirrel helping himself to a melon 🙄 and Mr and Mrs Wood pidgin finishing the last of the chocolate log.

Good morning all, pleasures for yesterday.....

Rain. The rain isn't the pleasure but not needing to defrost the car to go food shopping certainly was.

I went food shopping first thing. Everything wanted/needed was in stock and it didn't take long. I bought myself a small bunch of flowers because I'm worth it 

The HT asked for help tidying his room. It wasn't that bad but he likes company. The pleasure is that his room is now clean and tidy. 

I did all the jobs on my "to do" list. The list wasn't long but it was fiddly stuff that I kept forgetting like hanging the HT's bedroom mirror properly. 

We were going to have a break from TV but the first episode of UK drag race 2 was on iplayer so bath, clean pjs and into bed with the haribo to watch that.

So we is has the Date Nite this evening. Stakes are inn, with chopped mushrooms and bunion rings as well! Done proper, and we will not even consider using a Jimmy the Cook method either! Then wes has a flix, a Mazza full details the morrow! 

PM2PK as wes no can go out, we is has it at home inn stead! BoPsie is getting her rags of glad out as well!

What ho, midears! Hurrah incoming weekend as RL has been busy.

Purple kitten - gardening can be a bit addictive... Migod yes pillowcases can wait if the occupants are Too Big. Well done getting to grips with clippers! - I left Himself tufty & Middleson had to finish the job before just folding over at the middle & clipping his own hair All Over. Didn't brush up after but padded off to shower. Wobbly days happen - glad you were both able to see it will pass.

Frith - Alas, hen. Can you replace the HWB at all easily? School has plural therapy dogs? Dentist Again for bigger son - but a smile that lasts decades is probably worth it. Hurrah younger son reaping the rewards of all your hard work. "So we did some maths" - a lesser woman would be stamping her feet etc, and you know better.

Bala - a good shower is near magical. Fingers crossed for nephew. Hurrah for a great beef stew & an appreciative brother! Leftovers of almost every kind can be blitzed into a soup base. (Just not puddings.) I envy you being allowed swimming instead of Art. An Aunt with olive trees - yes, absolutely right to dream of in your turn. An escaped card is no longer the fraught thing it used to be, but inconvenient still.

House Elf - OThankHeavens, someone else who buys toothpaste pretty much by the kilo. Driving practice with a point! Belated Happy Wedding Anniversary! Yes, the little chats are surprisingly more meaningful.

PaulieHerts - while exercise is wonderful, time with those who "doom scrool" can be infectiously disheartening. ICU rarely brings good memories - but then, watching the news right now isn't that good for the health either. Pick one half hour in each 24 and then stop?

LaineyT - I must catch up on Staged! Contemplating bored Shetlands & my imagination is definitely going Thelwell! Tea loaf recipe much appreciated! TMS & Aggers in his dressing gown? Contemplates forming orderly distanced queue. Glad linen dress has arrived with promise of fun in future & share your pleasure in this community.

BoP - KHP bagged two pigeons - But What Then? left scattered across three gardens? Deffo Marmite & VitD. Ah Ms Bullock - an actress almost without an ego - she doesn't seem to mind being laughed at. When I take over the universe, I shall put you in charge of teaching cooking Proper Foods. Oh that it were just a single stone...

Nargleblast - dog having fun with a couple of young cocker spaniels sounds glorious. Well done on bonding team meeting.

Cranky - glad sis home, hope scan comes soon. Well done you keeping comms open & being able to reassure the HT of course his da adored him. Well done you calling the scanners about gaps in their dancecard. A dawn raid focused shop is worth getting up for!

Happycas - hope the walk was all needed & best of luck with DD - achy - well, yoga is also excellent exercise. "There are always more interesting things to do than housework" - Absolutely! Family tree climbing is Lots more fun.

MandM90 - a good survey is such a reassurance! Awed you trained DH & DD in the housework. Stuck to meal plans, NSDs hurrah but ulp is it JK?

VJsmum - a bit of general fed-up ness is not unreasonable. I envy you menu planning - Himself refuses to play. Breadmaking has a magic. Hope DD continues to recover. Cor on the interview & fingers crossed you have some choices!

ampersand - Erma Bombeck on housekeeping I think & “Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the 'Titanic' who waved off the dessert cart” has a special place in (well, near) my heart. OS Pleasures recently

Aw, Himself has had a thankyou email from the godfather he rebuilt a crackered air pistol into an SF prop - happy cries of glee though the electrons!

This puppy idea is triggering comment. Not least as there was a slice of bacon left over from breakfast & the lads opined the pup “would have competition”... That it’s true really stings, y’know?!

Engrossed in Secrets of the Museum & then by Ian Hislop <ahem, thank god for cold showers>, I completely missed Boris’ uplifting words. As I am unspeakably privileged, both to be able to work from home & no longer have Anyone In School, I can take a less fraught view. That said, both parents have dates with The  Vaccine this Friday & I am happier than a after a pig in mud.

Can anyone steer me to a novice’s guide to the German changing of air (Luften)? As the lads are leaving the heating on so I need to come up with a Healthy AntiVirus open window protocol. I think we will all be healthier & may even get the gas bill down.

Himself wants a new knife - the supplier hasn’t dealt with us before & has asked for evidence of ID. Alas the photo (says my husband) make me look “like a hardline member of Bader-Meinhof”. Still, they have my ID & money, soon Himself should have his new tool! [ID received & acknowledged, fun to follow.] [It’s here! Small enough to fit my hand perfectly, bright enough for me to find easily.]

Dropped in on team dial-in although technically on holiday. No school? No booze for the vaccinated? Please, no more Quality Street?! All gloriously positive!

The problem of bring comfortably sprawled on the mat is that to reach for something requires an undulation like that of a walrus, and I managed to knock over the cup of tea. My family, rousingly unsupportive, cheered & the strains of “I am a Walrus” are to be heard whenever I approach a thought-to-be-narrow gap. Bah!

The only problem with after-thankyou-letter kebab is I am so stuffed I don’t want to write mine, just yet. [Done, but must make snowy hike to postbox. Truly this year is weird.] [How do you write a Codicil to your Will? Youngest went on a snowy hike. Family crooning in consequence.]

It is refreshing shopping with a teenager - ‘this or that’ becomes ‘Both!’ My poor budget, but a happy family is worth it.

Gawped intrigued at open till (all that cabling!) & was reminded “it’s not nice to look at people while they’re undressing.” by youngest. Staff trying not to laugh behind masks.

This room is multitasking - the engineer is watching his 3D printer print a pig (slow process) while noodling on his laptop & playing music through his phone, husband watching robots on a tablet, youngest eating a bowl of curry & me contemplating a hike through snow to post thankyou letters, whilst mentally singing hallelujahs both parents got a vaccine jab yesterday & wondering how percy pigs came to be made in Germany for M&S.

The printer is whirring and there are intermittent reports “3%!” and other cries “I see toesies!” (Met with “put your sock back on then!” - printer-of-owl’s nose thoroughly out of joint.)

“When in doubt, excess! That’s my motto.” My son has “not fallen far from the tree”, even if I’m this case he’s talking about a gas canister for his forge. (Which I plan to ‘borrow’ in case of power cuts etc.)

I hadn’t realised the pangolin was accused of involvement in Covid but my husband is entranced by the armour plated endangered critters. Not least as those that accidentally become domesticated are are apparently very affectionate.

Midsomer & a Rolex. Us parents agreeing we’d wear an inherited one, son chiding our materialistic thoughts! Pointed out none of our family appears to be of the Rolex disposition. As evidence of ID etc, it’s good but not perfect, but the legit audit trail is robust. (The illegit similarly!)

Mate running a roleplaying game (largely by text) - one of the players was trying to bend the rules so his character didn’t die - died anyway & the consensus was “so long as he doesn’t sulk”...

Apparently there are glasses frame styles that identify you as a lesbian - something else to wonder about glasses shopping. My reading glasses with the Star Wars logo clearly identify me as a Geek.... (Things you learn in family zooms!)

Met the idea “I’m not different from you, I’m different like you” - somehow that puts into words why both the old boys network (& my near-immediate affinity with eccentrics) work so fast.

“J, destroy the photos of him & the baby” - my sister got a Very Strange notelet by recorded delivery, then a visit from thought-to-be-sibling & has on consideration reported the matter to the police, lest the baby be at risk.

The upside of starting work early is I get to see sunrise. Just I’m under a bowl of cloud & can’t see even a pink just brighter grey... [Later, And Thicker. Sun rising somewhere, fog settling in round here.]

Got to love Springsteen with Paris in his palm (2005) working the crowd with the hulking toddler saxophonist Jake at his shoulder, lovely to see the Clemons family still have the Boss’ back. Then, I have a great big soft spot for the E Street Horns, who are just amazing musicians.

I thought I was developing a new form of tinnitus & then twigged Middleson’s 3D printer. Now ‘relocated’ so I do not get as disturbed at work.

I’ve found the little windup guardsman that amused our lad in his stocking last year. I think the little figure will be added to our Christmas decorations. The robot from the same stable was another brother’s, not opened or played with.

There are National Guardsmen, sleeping in the Capitol, with their weapons beside them, to ensure the Inauguration doesn’t get out of hand. Bolting the stable door a tad but Biden will have his usual guards around him rather than unfamiliar faces. There are days I find America totally bewildering. 

I asked for “a nest of bags” & youngest says “I prefer to use the term hive”. OK, now I’m pondering what might hatch, who or what is the Queen & hoping they are a benign species. (I may need tea.)

Lovely happy Scout meeting - we had two of our louder scouts in one breakout room (mine) & the consensus was we should add the third loud one and contain the damage (with me in charge - a part of the scheme I hope our leader forgets!)

This morning there is still snow on the ground but there is a band of pink on the horizon smudging up into blue. The stark black & white of the trees looks glorious against that! Even through the headset I can hear a bird chirping. Possibly that it’s someone else’s turn to do the chores - it’s not a beseeching chirp...

Right, the livestock need to be reminded I exist. Health strength love & courage to all as have need, HWBs waterproof roofing & hot meals likewise, & hoping the next 48 hours are slightly better than you hoped!

Its been a damp day here though not wet as such if that makes sense. 

I much prefer a 5.30 rise to an 8.30 one! Up early and out with doggy. Just us and the birdies. 

Was given a very nice bottle of bubble bath pre Christmas ( posh bubbles) but I don’t have a bath so passed it on to someone who does. A doorstep delivery. Met a nice ginger cat on the way. 

Then to supermarket. A bit for me and a bit for mum. There’s a nice lady who works on checkouts and she’s always polite and gently chatty so it was nice to go through her till. 

Bought daffodils. Hurrah for daffodils. My very favourite flower. 

Home briefly. 

Round to mums. Put her shopping away. Did dishes. Hoovered. Emptied bins. Chatted. 

Nice walk back home. A tree full of chattering birds. The red of the bare dogwood bushes. The gurgle of the burn ( small stream) . A little dog who was obviously fed up walking!

Had written a letter to DD1 this morning so doggy and I posted that. 

Found what I was looking for ( absolutely not where I would ever thought...it was a by blow of another task!) so was able to offer it up for free. Was snapped up in minutes and then collected in minutes which was excellent! 

However from looking I have tidy kitchen drawers, tidy dresser drawers and tidy dresser cupboards! A pile of rubbish either binned or recycled. 

Swept up and hosed back patio...blooming birds and their blooming poops! Love to watch them feeding not so much the pooping! 

Filled up the log basket. 

Nice chat to friend on phone. 

Lainey hugs for your four years. I remember it well. We were in hospital at the time. How quickly time ticks on doesn’t it? But hold fast your beautiful memories of your mum. Hope there’s been some lovely moments today x

I really laughed out loud several times reading through DfVs update, and love “I’m not different from you, I’m different like you”.  Thou I might have had to google Ian Hislop as I couldn’t visualise, prompted conversation about “lesbian glasses?” Whilst also feeling grateful DH didn’t get a 3d printer.

I’m glad I did these today thought I would be struggling to find five.

1 We walked up to the post office and returned something, which will be pennies back in, but I am spending the return on a subscription to help inspire with writing.

2 I’m burning a “taster” wood wick candle and it really does make the place smell lovely, a great air freshener.

3 Using up items cabbage, ham etc into a pasta bake tonight.

4 More bird food put out for the birds and wildlife and making sure all the foxes are getting leftover spoils so less waste a bit of a lifecycle of food.

5 So glad we left the multicoloured rope light wrapped around the stairs and landing it makes me smile.

Pleasures for today (Friday)

1) not a bad sleep.

2) hens ok.

3) bigger son is in the forest in his hammock and cooking sausages. He mentioned (pre lockdown 3) that he’d chatted with 2 school friends and one had (to me) a familiar name. She’s a famous model!

4) diet continues. 

5) in unusual news, today I received what we might call an inheritance. My dad and Aunty sold my grandparents’ house (it has been rented out for 10 years after grandma died). 50% to each of them and dad has split his share four ways to himself and my siblings and me. It went into my account this morning then straight out again as a mortgage overpayment (I’ll update my mortgage thread when it’s all processed). OK, my house was cheap (in 1999) but the payments were still enough to take every last penny. Now it is down to 4 figures. 

6) watched the Last Leg.

don't know which thread to add this too but want to put it out there.  Talking again of my Aunty, about a month ago I remembered asking her why she had her herbs in the fridge (in big glass jars).  She washed and dried them, then stored them this way convinced they lasted longer.  Tried it with a huge bunch of coriander and it worked.  Lots of pleasure there.  I love using fresh herbs.  (But I don't like cooking............. ) 

Have been downloading Apps onto my phone.  I cannot tell you how much pleasure and relief this provides.  I promised myself that this would be the year when I tackled my fear/anxiety about these things.  So far so good.

(Does anyone know of a good book/website that explains computers e.g. Ram etc.  It has to be simple    )

Not much else to share at the moment.  Hopefully a productive day ahead.
