mila that just sounds positively lovely. I'm glad you all got to enjoy a lovely meal together.
It's been snowing! Not much lying though my windscreen on my car has a fair collection. Haggis and I went a walk around 6pm and it was snowing then, much excitement from great niece who was accompanying me. She just wants to walk Haggis, so after he's done his business on main road area , we cut through my little estate and go a bit further where she can walk him. H isn't always good with other dogs. She knows this so said there's a dog ahead. I took H back. Man shouts it's okay mine is friendly as it's running towards us. So I said yes, but mine isn't always as his dog is running circles round H. Then man says 'I'm a dog whisperer' ...he says again his dog is friendly and I say again yes but mine isn't always. Then he says can I take your dog, let me walk him next to mine. So bizarrely he takes my dogs lead, walks him on his right side, his on his left and me and great niece just walk behind, all the while I'm thinking what the actual...? I knew I wasn't in any danger and he did seem a nice chap but still...anyway got my dog back around the corner and niece and I walked home in the snow! Very bizarre!
So for other Thursday pleasures.
Finished my 2 chairs . The wrong sized Allen key was provided so it kept dropping out , much to my intense frustration and clattering on the floor! Each time followed by a swear word! And I couldn't get them fully screwed in on 3 chairs and I thought I'm going to have to ask for help. Then I remembered I had an Allen key with an extra plastic holder doodah that I got with my ikea stool last weekend and maybe the holder doodah would be helpful...well, it turns out the wrong sized key was provided, the one from ikea fitted perfectly and I was then able to finish all the chairs by myself and not having to ask for help. So I now have a table and 6 chairs!
Took all the packaging from bed and table to recycle ( 2 trips) got petrol. Wow! That's expensive here! First time filling up and it wasn't even a full tank but I will do my usual of just keeping topped up once I get to half way. It's a similar price in dollars as pounds is $1.21 and was £1.22 /l yesterday.
Went into Mr T supermarket which is my local shop and where recycling bins are. I sorely miss my local strip of shops back home and that way of going to bakers or florist etc. Got a few things in anticipation of this time next month and for surprise party in 2 weeks.
Had a lovely FaceTime chat with DD1 when I got back home.
Had forgotten to get milk ( I don't really use it and had just had to pour an unused one out) but was making macaroni for tea so did another recycle run, got milk and also 2 bunches of RTC flowers. I'd seen them earlier but they hadn't been marked down enough at that point !
Made tea. Niece and great niece came a visiting and we all sat at my new table! Much chatter.
Went round to one of my best friends and just so lovely to sit and chat like we've always done . Much laughter as I told her all the awful ( yet I'm sure well meaning ) things people have said since I came back. At least I can laugh! 9.20pm...I must go. 9.50pm ...I really must go! Nice to see her girls too, who I've known since they were tots and now they are grown women...how does that even happen?
Have a great Friday ! I have continued home improvements to do. And a great niecely sleepover to look forward to! Not sure which will leave me the most exhausted!0 -
Morning from the early train - hash browns and fried eggs have been consumed. No bacon, cos it's like shoe leather on these trains and i'm fussy about my snorkers... (and i am trying to cut down on the meat eating)
Mhags - I kind of get the 'dog whispering' - i am a bit of a baby whisperer. I don't know what it is but they always notice me and if i catch a squawking babies eye and put my finger to my lips in a 'shh' motion, they do!! Mind I wouldn't waltz off with someone's baby...
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Made time to go to yoga. I had a busy morning and it would have been easy to not go, but i am looking on it as a necessity (future proofing rather than indulgence) so i went and am glad i did
2. It meant rationalising a few other chores - but when you think about what is strictly necessary you realise how much you can cut down on other jobs (i.e taking a load of bags to the chazzer can be done next week and, meantime, can be hidden in the currently out of use office).
3. nice walks to and from station, but again was kind to myself in London and got the tube. The christmas lights on Regents St were beautiful
4. went to a lecture about the intergovernmental panel on climate change - really interesting but not quite as useful as I'd hoped (i went to hear about the links between research and policy, but the lecturer didn't really talk about that)
5. Watched the kay mellor drama when I got in and did an hours knitting. trying to finish a little jacket for Great nephew before he gets too big for it :rotfl:
Have a good day all, I am off to dad's who is none too well, so not sure what I'm going into...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
& au lit, realising rugby-worn voice, for which & rptdly apologised during a long long long heavy duty Spits day, was sthg more all along.
Ah well, no unnecessary dashing up this a.m., with cricket on 5liveX, although sans dear Henry, Lainey.
Have now had my usual qtrd orange, also ½slice toast+hot milk+honey.
Tutoring tonight.

1. Spits done, is the pleasure. Horrible drive down. Rain, wind, huge trucks on ludicrous wee small hrs village diversions, then speeding motorway madness+M11 truckspray. Then, all locked out till 6bells. The market-killing modus of Tribeca continues. They have it all wrong, but it will bite them. How many of us will still be there to care?
2. Lying back right now, tippy tapping on mob. which is quasi-working. &utah not. Kitchen radio said 'no signal' again and lights were flickering.
3. & has funds to count, bank, later. & changed spot to open corner, as proposed last Sun. Felt better, tho' still not right, as access impeded by ongoing works 'humps'. Hard to ferry boxes in, fragiles on board, over unsecured 20cm high rubber ramp tiles, Not right for anyone any more, buyers or sellers. This is the constant. Osp no.3 is foregoing whinge, thankyou for reading:-). Also had heavy old fireback fall back on shin.
4. AirNZ have a 100 tkt special offer: £399rtn!!!, but there's no way & will obtain one, with fenny notspottery the main ingredient. Have wondered about next moves,, trips back. Still have some elements of choice.
5. A whole wonderful story around v.v.v.v. late sale of temple hangings (post passim). Yuki, (now googled) petite, modest, lovely, looking all of 11, traditional Chinese opera singer+musician of some repute (seen on her phone later, not dissimilar to Noh theatre). In London on visiting 2yr scholarship, Had noticed her earlier in afternoon, but was dealing with other peeps. She politely asked to send pics to parents, seek their permission to buy. 'This is not a decision I can fully take myself', softly spoken. Agreed, with promise to advise & either way, & having decided to give them one more showing next week, then think again. Big, fragile, careful handling, rolling, needed. & was well into packing when she retn'd. Answer: 'Yes. Must', said parents. She will not see them, nor they her - and hangings, until her rtn late next year. She knew the c.800 a.d. story on the hangings, it being one of her main, critically acclaimed rôles! Beautiful young Princess, pressed by elderly king father into marriage with another elderly king, to consolidate land grab dowry, at time when China was 3 separate countries. & suggested careful rolling again, using one of her black backing cloths. Done. Tube back to Finsbury Park. Asked her to confirm safe arrival. Explained own rtn unlikely before 2a.m. All is well. Will count takings soon. Had several other lovely txns of peeps+objêts perfectly met, which is the best part of doing Spits. 2 Rowland Suddaby watercolours to American lady, strange little trench art scarab brooch to chap+ptnr, Patrick Procktor book to striking-looking gent + his extraordinary story of entering PP's flat, post-fire burning all current work....'I can never forget the smell, some sense of terrible foreboding....". He also said Hockney 'stole' many of PP's ideas.... Vintage cheongsam weave, marriage bed throw depicting 'The 100 Babies'.
Was determined to persist with this, started pre-6. So slow, autocorrect mangling. Cricket long finished. This is the lumbering reality of worsening notspottery.
If I lose this......major snarl will follow.
5a. Will now take up my old-style Josephine Tey's(another pen name)"The Franchise Affair."

1) Food - and lack of it's prep. Pot of aforementioned curry was delish. Enough for lunch today and dinner tomorrow. Dins at a friend's in London tonight, and lunch out (also in London) with another friend tomorrow, then enough curry for Saturday din dins. So I shall cook on Sunday next. Woohoo!
2) Holibobs on the horizon. Have booked in annual leave. Going to Vegas in Jan, Amsterdam in Feb, Lille/Paris/Berlin (TBC) in May, 2 weeks driving round France in July, Ireland in August and thinking about Iceland (funds permitting) in December. After years being frugal to get us in the nice, safe, position we are I'm completely RELISHING having a bit of freedom and some options
3) Getting Nest thermostat installed in 2 weeks - they've overcharged me (will be refunded) and ignored my email 5 mins after ordering, to ship another colour, but hey-ho...it's coming. And hopefully our house will be cosier when we're in, and less costly when we're out. We have no thermostat currently, so £219 installed didn't seem too bad a deal. I think after a 2-3 years we will probably recoup this cost.
4) Managed to nab Exploding Kittens for £15 from Amazon (black Friday deal) was in my wish list anyway. It'll be my in laws xmas pressie as we like to play board games together. I will also make them some reusable shopping bags and a binder of vegan recipes collected and tried by me
5)Spices orange tea. Found in Morri$ons. Absolutely blooming delish. And festive, too.0 -
What a wonderful thing for your friend to do Mila
Thursday pleasures,
Woke up to cricket report from Capt S, dear old thing is certainly missed & as is Bumble on tv version.
Direction of wind meant that huge pile of leaves had gathered on other side of garden gate, opened it and buried little dog who was charging through for her walk
Food shopping and hit W8rose just right, good bargains which included crab pate, one of Laineys favs.
DB dropped in for surprise cup of tea.
Pesto salmon and baked fennel for tea, bit of a fishy day then!0 -
i'm fussy about my snorkers...
5 Back at the Club of Camera last eve and while I was out and about they had problems with the projector thing. Normal service has resumed!
4 Wobbleades were consumed!
3 Back at mill gathering the new bales of cotton ready for the mill. Cloth ready to roll!
2 Night will be watching Glawster on Oggle thing!
Made another week of it!0 -
More snow!
Fabby walk with friends and their dogs. In the snow!
Went down to doctors to re-register. Since I've moved its now pay for parking, no thanks, so walked blooming ages!
Went to Tk Max and I may have bought an advent dog bed! It's rather gorgeous! Also bought a more practical dog bed and a lovely pair of curtains for my living room for £7.00 . Could have spent a fortune and a whole load of time.
Home. More snow. Sorted out my living room . It's now more how I want it.
Great niece sleeping over. Dog walk. Lego making. Tea. Bubble bath. Four stories and she's got 20 minutes before it's bedtime.0 -
1) Fab game of rugby jut watched GLAWWWWSSSTTEERRRR won, Yay!
2) Trip to the city where while every one else was playing 'Black Friday' I worked my way through the sale department of many shops and came home almost shopped for Christmas at most acceptable prices!
3) The cup (or 3) of tea I enjoyed with my feet up when I got back home again.
4) Going in on the bus with a neighbour and having a good old catch up.
5) So many more games of rugby to enjoy on the TV this weekend and none of them overlap so we can record them ALL and enjoy them during next week.0 -

Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son had quite a good day at school. Idiotic behaviour from bigger son and his friends again (his day off college) and they got into rather a lot of trouble over it. :-(
3) I went to see my great aunty who has not been well for some time. It looks like I shall be dealing with her finances for her as she is just not herself at the moment. I had a bit of a clear out in her kitchen of very out of date food too.
4) Tasty tea of gammon, various roast veg plus braised red cabbage.
5) Watched I'm a Celebrity with smaller son while bigger son went to work.
6) Have found the ideal apprenticeship for bigger son and he is actually very interested in applying. I feel 8-4.30 5 days a week might slow him down a little bit...
7) In bed and have just watched HIGNFY. Will listen to the radio just now.0
