Something wonderful. A magpie decided to take it's courage in it's wings and explore what was on the table for consumption. First time ever.
Reminded me of a morning (around 5am) about 5 or 6 summers ago. Magpies screaming in the tree outside, dogs going potty. Realised that a ferral ginger Tom was mauling a wood pigeon. Rushed outside with the nearest towel, got rid of the cat and proceeded to try and catch the bird. Could see it's wing was damaged but it wouldn't be caught. So there I was, barefoot and scantily clad (not the prettiest of sights) running, hobbling and wobbling after this bird for at least 2 minutes. The little blighter (the cat) actually stalked us from the other side of the road. No amount of shooing would deter it.
I eventually caught and cocooned the bird only to find that I was locked out ! After about 20 minutes deliberation and at least 3 people gawking at me (I must have looked deranged) I decided to wake the street up by banging on our door.
The RSPCA were brilliant allowing me to take the bird to the nearest vet covering all costs.
More on the Hooman watch.................2 young fox cubs visited the other night.........sadly I missed it but my brother saw them.

You do have some adventures Bala!! So pleased your brother saw the fox cubs. I bet he was delighted.
Rain and more rain today so the stroll round the market changed to a trip to Sainsbury's. More expensive but a lot drier. The current lot of roadworks have left the store almost cut off so it was almost empty. Made it easy to wander round and find things. Even found vanilla essence for the first time in long enough.
DGC have a date to return to school next week. DGS (6) is delighted. DGD (11) is a little more apprehensive as she moving to ' big school '. Unfortunately they have not had any of the familiarisation visits which they usually would, but I'm sure they'll all be fine after the first week or so.
Right, back to coffee and crossword
Happy 🌞, ☔, windy day everyone

dfv fajitas to serve 4 - fry 600g thinly sliced chicken breast or thigh in 1 tbsp oil, once cooked set aside. Fry 2 large onions, sliced, 3 red peppers, sliced 6 - 8 mins in a tbsp oil, add cooked meat, 1tsp chilli powder, 2 tsp ground paprika, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper, pinch salt and pepper, stir well. Sprinkle with 80g grated cheddar and put in oven for 10 minutes (I don't bother), serve with lettuce, sour cream, coriander (unless it tastes like soap like it does to me) and lime wedges. nom nom.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

D doll. We had fajitas for tea too!! Almost identical recipe. I don't add cheese, and I don't like coriander. It smells like celery to me, and I hate celery. I do add garlic, like I do to nearly everything, and we have it in a wrap. Very messy, but very tasty.11

2 Chicken salad roll for lunch, l/o curried things put in rice, served with pork belly for dinner.
3 We popped to a local garden centre for a change of scenery and picked up some crocus bulbs in memory of some fuzzies I planted them where they rest.
4 I’ve created a spare freezer shelf and I’m on my way to a second, I know what we’re like as we have plans to visit C0stco this week.
5 Finally got the lawn mowed, 4 days later than planned thanks to the weather. It’s looking better now, bird food re filled and bird bath cleaned and watered.
6 Applying for a couple of roles.
For today,
1 A lay in, apparently we needed extra sleep?
2 Cleaned out all the animal bedding, quite a washing machine que at one point.
3 Hoovered the whole house, if only it stopped at that but spent a few hours cleaning while DH also de cluttered a bit and moved things to the loft out of the way aka spare if another lockdown were to happen.
4 Grilled chicken, veg and rice to put into a build your own wrap.
5 A forgotten one of earlier this morning, wondering what the garden noise was it was a fox and 2 cubs, of course we have tubes and toys out in the garden.

I was joined in bed by a DD1 last night so didn’t sleep very well...I quite like my own space these days!Busy shift at work. Lots of people in for half price lunches! However decent tips. And that’s it done for a few day anyway!Found a person to take canvas picture that’s not me at all! So they’re picking it up in morning.Had chicken Kiev and leftover from work potatoes . DD1 cooked. We made mince pies and put the Christmas LP on record player. Thought guest might have thought we were a tad crazy ( which I realise it might sound it ) but she thought it was nice and felt like she was with family. DD1 leaves in a few days and we had all theses things we had planned to do one of which was make mince pies as she wasn’t home last Christmas so we made them...I love them but will have heartburn later so sitting up meantime.
Nice chat with friend on phone.10 -
Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) A lie in.
2) Bigger son has been hopping around all day (hole in the foot) but it has not become infected. He very quickly picks up skin infections like cellulitis, but has somehow managed to escape it this time.
3) Hens well, despite the weather.
4) Popped to my sister's so bigger son could photocopy his passport ready for his interview on Thursday.
5) Popped to Lidl. (or Aldi, I never know which is which).
6) Excitement this evening as we used the 50% off scheme to go to our local Indian restaurant and had a very nice meal indeed. Tables spaced out as widely as possible, no tablecloths or fabric napkins, no bound menus and everything cleaned thoroughly between guests.
7) Did the online pub quiz with bigger son.
8) Smaller son put the old laptop on ebay for me.12 -
For yesterday,
Wet and blustery, a day for being at home.
Lots of chores done in the morning plus some financial admin.
It wasn’t particularly cold but definitely a soup kind of day, with a slice of cheese on toast, yum.
Long chat with bf, complete coincidence but we were both making bread so FaceTime call.
After bit of respite the wind picked up again, westerly so hitting cottage at the end where we sleep, something very cosy reading in bed with it howling around us but did send up a wish that roof tiles hold up!12 -
Morning all
PLeasures for yesterday
1. As everywhere, wet and blustery so an inside day. I read a lot - including a book on local history that my mum had a big hand in writing. I could hear her 'voice' coming through.
2. Lots of Duolingo German - i'm on a 125 day streak.
3. Hair cut
4. Salmon for tea - have eaten a lot of fish this past week as it's fairly light.
5. A TV evening - DIY chateau programme and who do you think you are. Felt like autumn.
Have a great day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens11
