House elf hoping you have a better day.
Mhags hope wedding was all that they wished it to be.

    1. Moving slightly better and back slightly better. Able to look after it better when not working.

    2. Made fish pie for tea as DS2 was out. He doesn't like fish.

    3. DS2 friend came to pick him up for a cricket dinner. Had a chat with him. He has exams coming up soon so is revising hard.

    4. Managed to get stuff done. The fridge is clean and soup made with all veg that needed eating. Had it for lunch and it was tasty.

    5. Gave bathroom a clean and it looks much better and now need to do the washing especially as DS2 tidied his bedroom.

    6. Did air the house- all Windows open for an hour and the house smells much fresher.

    1. Spits done. Not so new but still unfinished set-up does not gel, let alone buzz. Agreed by all except visible big rats who love newbuild obesity central. Day began 0156h Thurs; &bed regained 0310h Fri - yup, +26hrs of driving, lugging, sorting, standing. No sitting space now. Long, long heavy day. One more blutty theft(3colour-gold Mt Fuji cigarette case, sgd, good thing) discovered late. Cameras don't cover anything now. Then, packed+loaded again by 2230h, with diversions en route back(snarl). Just fell into bed. Didn't wake till 8! Unheard of. All related here by & still abed, having a moan:-)

    2. Still, as ever, grateful for banking done y'day, late arvo. Car repairs have been a wallop, with new battery to follow this morning. But, big But, it's copable, thanks to Spits.

    3. Tutoring (£20 for 5.5hrs last night.... yes, & knows....) reflects increased pressure on teachers and schools, with lack of real gain or purpose for either clear in some areas. What & does with all 3 children brings tangible results, pleasure in learning, recall, retention. Really becoming evident week on week. This IS reward:-)and skill for life.

    4. 2x79p(were £7!!! apiece) rtc emporium thingies of naughty sublime. A matchu tea green! sponge roll+morello cherry+cream filling. Yum-yum-yum-yum-yum:-))). Anyone else seen them?

    5. & is having this most unusual lazy day start. ABs may well be watched in The Alma ce soir. Pourquoi pas? indeed.

Thoughts going out to Mhags for today, to pk for your Dad, to Lainey travelled, to Fereien chatter's Kindle of Kittens(another rather forgotten writer of real note, Rumer Godden). Welcome to this good good thread:-)

36hours & am in complete awe of your stamina.
Hmm DFV we are yet to experience gf stopovers but suspect it won't be long, personally would sing away and be dammed, perhaps the option to do requests? :D

    Pleasures for Friday,

Two furry brown faces waiting at the gate of their kennel, had obviously picked up on my dulcet tones and knew they were going home, can two dogs wag their tails off, certainly gave it a go.

Even in just four days the difference in the colour of the beech trees, seen in sunlight they were stunning.

Reunited with the lovely Lulu who had obviously been rolling in mud in preparation for our meeting.

Inspired by DD's post have ordered a copy of D Dunnett's first Lymond volume as someone have never read.

After unloading 20 bales of shavings and cleaning up said pony was hungry & tired so non OS pleasure of Chinese takeaway.

Good morning, it's Sunday already and where did Saturday go? In a haze of visitors and unpacking is the answer!

Thank you for all your lovely wedding wishes, it was a day most perfect and just truly lovely and exactly how they wanted it to be.

    For Friday:

Sleep over child slept right through!

Beautiful dog walk. We are fortunate to live almost in the country but wth town very near by. So an early morning walk up country lanes with a doggy and a 6 year old chasing each other. Constantly chats!

Hello old hairdresser and a lovely half hour getting hair washed and dried.

Time for heading out to 'the wedding ' said exaggeratedly each time GN and I mention it! Longest drive so far in my new car, once oh so familiar roads feel like just a memory and there's been lots of lane changes as I drive through our town but got there!

We were joining the bridal party as they got ready. My lovely niece had asked me to share this time with her and it was just the most fabulous 3 hours of getting ready and chit chat and laughing and for me sobbing ...often! Very emotional! I took lots and lots of photos of this getting ready time which have been lovely to share with DN as she was busy getting hair and makeup done and not seeing what else was going on. Beautiful hotel, beautiful bridal suite. Beautiful bride, gorgeous, happy bridesmaids and the loveliest flower girl ever!

Time with my sister, who hugged me as I put my wrist corsage on with a blue thistle included to represent my husband. I'd chosen it, I knew it would be there but still it made me cry.

The ceremony, sitting in the front pew with a flower girl on my knees. Who whispered ' I can't wait for the party to start' ...and then later 'when will the party start?' ...after the photos, after the meal, after the speeches!

Me, getting a mention in the ceremony. Me , getting a section of the groom's speech ( me...not so graciously snorting when this happened) , my husband getting a mention and a donation being made in his memory to our oncologist's research. Cue more sobs!

Being the chief lifter of the flower girls many layers of tulle and netting. Loo duty! Much laughter during this! Don't look auntie....don't worry GN, all I can see is tulle!

Beautiful speeches, there was so much love and affection. Groom just absolutely , truly loves his bride. Best man is grooms best friend and so happy for them and just smiles and laughs through his speech.

The meal was so lovely , beautiful table setting. Nice chit chat. Facing my niece at top table and able to smile and interact with her and share a few teary moments. In between courses popping over to say hello to other tables.

Then it was my time to go. I had chosen to only stay till 7pm. Right from the start. It was such an emotionally tiring day as I had known it would be. It was such a big day as I had known it would be and I don't regret going when I did. DN knew this and understood my reasoning.

Managed to drive home! I hate driving in the dark, more lane changes since I've lived here ( drove different way home as was taking people back).

My dog boy! He was down at my friend/ neighbours and had had a ball! I'd had a photo sent in the afternoon so knew he was fine but I was just glad to be reunited with him. Frosty, late evening walk with him.

    Chats with my girls.

    For Saturday.

The loveliest morning walk with dog. It's so quiet here. Mornings back home the birds are so noisy and here it's very gentle cheeping. I like when I'm on the phone to kids when I hear the noisy birds! Saw a grouse, robins, blackbirds, a wren. Saw distant hills all around me ( which is like at home in Australia ) , hedgerows filled with berries. Just lovely. But the freedom of fear when walking is lovely ...can let him off lead and there won't be snakes in the grass .

Started the mammoth task of getting through the rest of the wall of boxes in dining room. There had been 24 boxes piled up like a blooming wall, so got through final 12 yesterday. Car is loaded with next lot of paper to recycle and rest has gone in garage and will just empty through the week.

I have so much stuff ! I really had believed I'd suitably decluttered...it seems not! So that shall be an ongoing process. Our Australian house was just so much bigger than what I have here ( which isn't tiny but lacks the same amount of storage)

Visited by family on their way home from the wedding. First was sister and BIL. Then favourite aunt, uncle , cousin and her husband. They brought shortbread...thought you'd like to keep the tin...maybe not! I have boxes full of tins! Then my nephew and his beautiful girlfriend who I'd met for first time day before. He is one of my favourite people and I love him dearly. OH had bequeathed him one of his guitars. So I gave him that and he was delighted and I was just sob-ful. My OH played guitar very well and had for years and my nephew plays amazingly and it's right that the guitar goes to someone who can play well and will appreciate it. But the emotion of fulfilling, literally one of your husbands dying wishes was huge.

They all went so it was time to head back to the land of unpacking. All boxes are emptied in kitchen. Not the box with cutlery though! Or everyday glasses...so I have no idea what they are packed in with!

My sister called to say she was home safely ( lives in England), I found my address book so called a friend here...she had called me the day after I arrived and I was so tired I could hardly speak. My niece phoned and we had a chat which was nice too. She had a lovely day but was exhausted !

Then friend came over and we shared a takeaway Chinese meal and sat at the table, which is now accessible as the Great Wall of Boxes has came down!

    So just another lovely day!

Much to be done today again but going to church this morning and it's an earlier start for Remembrance service. So shall need to have doggy boy all walked before I need to head out. Have boxes to be done in each bedroom , I can't get to my windows to close blinds as there's just stuff blocking the way!

    Have a lovely Sunday .

    Morning All,

    1. Made stir fry for lunch from what was in the fridge.

    2. Given lots of logs for the fire. Now stacked.

    3. Glitch shopping in Mr A. also, got DS1 GF Xmas present in Boots, so he can take that with him when he goes to visit her on Monday. (Saves postage!).

    4. Baked Zitti for tea. Thank you Pioneer Woman! DS2 not keen on this recipe, but he is away with cadets.

    5. Fire, quilting, Stranger Things 2, glass of wine......hygge :rotfl:

Finished Stranger Things 2 :( What are we going to do now?).

Becoming obsessed with the quilt, as the end is in sight!

    Happy Sunday :)

    1. Sorted out a kitchen cupboard. There is now more space and the frequently used stuff is nearer the front.

    2. Chat with DS2. He can be quite talkative at times. He cooked bacon sandwich for breakfast.

    3. Went Christmas shopping. Some more done. The shops were fairly quiet and was fairly enjoyable.

    4. Went to watch Paddington. I enjoyed it and laughed. It was worth watching.

    5. Dinner with DH. Good to have time to talk without interruptions.

Aha, house elf... another Ree Drummond follower:-) Don't know zitti, will look.

    1. ABs 38 :-)))))))))))) - France 18. Great 2nd half fightback from Les Bleus. Like the look of their Teddy Thomas and pleased Trinh-duc came on. Both sides experimenting, made interesting watching. And what rain! Good to see new crop of Ref.s shaping up for World Cup 2019.
No Wayne Barnes-alikes need apply thankyou.

    2. At Shelford earlier, but little happening. Nomads were scrubbed up and watching Albion after their own 82 - 10 loveliness. All well hailed and re-met at The Alma.

    3. Astonishing welcome<patron, les Français, known bar staff, old familiars, which again took & by surprise, as did hugs, bises, patron's verre of lovely cab.shiraz. A really appreciative fabulous rugby gathering and later conversation, with patron handing on The New European. Didn't know it. Glad I do now.

    4. Laundry was rain-soaked y'day morning, but all in hw cupboard since. Will be fine.

    5. Graph paper<Tindall's dropped off for tutored eldest in town of horse. 1 sheet from school not enough and gridlines barely visible in light grey . Then bit battery bullet, £93 fitted+3yr guarantee and fuelled up. Week's pension gone....but little Meriva starts as never yet!:-). A really good young Halfords' man removed the original, 10yrs old - had done well, said he.

Wet again this morning. No hunting/gathering. Some early finds y'day. Will enjoy grauniad, New European, more book, with good time for church. & is always conflicted over this time of year/observance.
