I've managed to get a read back and it seems there has been a fair bit of food enjoyed over the past few days. Our Greek feast on Saturday was superb, they had got bits from a Greek deli service in Glasgow so had all the proper ingredients including the lovely soft pitta breads. Dishes were many a varied and Sunday's food involved picking happily at LOs. Yesterday was more traditional HM lentil soup, steak & sausage pie, slow roasted lamb shoulder, lots of veg, cauli cheese and a lovely trifle that my friend made full of port-soaked fruit. There are some LOs but not many and tonight I think we may bypass these and go for a lighter fishy option. My hopes of having an empty freezer shelf have been dashed mainly because I took advantage of the Greek deli order to get a big pack of the pitta which I've frozen individually and they are taking up a fair bit of room:). Brunch was a bacon and tomato roll.0 -
Breakfast was WM toast with olive Pure spread and two slices of vegan cheese and a pineapple yoghurt. Green tea.
I just went for a short walk to the shop, to post a letter and feed the birds and I took my water bottle with me.
I have the last bowl of chickpea curry to eat, I don't fancy it now so I might have it for dinner with some rice. I have lots of onions so I might make onion rice.
I'm not sure what to have for lunch, maybe a bowl of tinned soup or a couple of Linda McCartney sausage rolls...
I'm making a banana, apple, orange and spinach smoothie in a minute. I have lots of spinach so I will make one for my husband too.0 -
This evening I will be pulling out all the stops and making a spag bol - instructions courtesy of my local butcher

I hope it turns out ok. I find my butcher really good too and he's given me loads of tips.
I don't usually add to this thread, but I wanted to send my best wishes to you. Losing a loved one is very sad, but the circumstances in which you lost your lovely wife is particularly so. I'm sure she would be so proud of the way you have coped, and the way in which you are trying so hard to carry on xx0 -

Because of the weather a no brain decision made to stay in
Lunch was the mini pizza[STRIKE][STRIKE] cooked [/STRIKE][/STRIKE]heated up in the mini oven
Change of idea on dinner. I found half a jar of LO pesto in the fridge, so now a use up of that, stirred into pasta along with tinned tuna. I thought I would add some mushrooms in as well, but they have gone manky & now only fit for compost:(
It is ages since I had HM pasta, BBE is 2011, which gives a clue how long ago I made pasta. It is dried and looks fine, and of course will be plunged in boiling water.
And I found some macaroni hiding behind the pasta swirls, could be a milk pud coming up soonI woke up thinking I hadn't eaten liver in a long while. My wife never cooked it at all, but mum served it regularly as a child and I loved it. I also remember eating 'tripe and onions' - wonder if anyone eats that these days?
I love liver. But buying raw & cooking, which did a couple of times is IMO too much faff when CFO. I have used, and will continue to use the ready meal ones from Morries & Iceland, both of which were fine. Not tried other suppliers but no doubt just as good. I added extra veg to turn into a fairly easy, cheap & tasty meal FO
Did any one catch the kids must eat less sugar news this morning? Seems CRUMPETS are now a health food:jEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I have a lovely piece of fish in the freezer that I discovered last night. So I'll fry that in some frylight in a pan, do myself some healthy chips and have a 'healthy' fish and chips

I woke up thinking I hadn't eaten liver in a long while. My wife never cooked it at all, but mum served it regularly as a child and I loved it.
I love liver too, not the thin strips of lambs liver you get in the supermarket, but the thicker cuts of ox liver you get at the butchers. Sounds like you have a good source of info with your local butcher and the bonus of buying liver from there you can get a small amount for 1 maybe 2 portions, he will also be able to advise on the best way to cook.
It does go somewhat tough if you stew in a gravy but given a dusting of flour or oatmeal and fried quickly its very tasty - of course you need a heap of fried onions on the sideJan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

I felt full up from the huge smoothie so have just had a couple of handfuls of peanuts since then.
I'm looking forward to dinner. I'm going to make a spicy rice with added onions, courgettes and sweetcorn to go with the chickpea curry.

Belated Happy New Year to all
I'm just back from a weekend with a friend so no CFO for a few days

Was feeling a bit cba at lunchtime - so it was toast with almond butter, a persimmon, a kiwi fruit, drink of rice mylk.
Bit more effort tonight - as I've now finished reading my latest two cookbooks. So courtesy of the "How not to die" cookbook by Michael Gregor MD it's going to be courgette noodles with avocado-cashew alfredo sauce. Looks like all the recipes in it are tasty by British standards (not "greysville" and frozen vegetables - as per similar US ones) and pretty quick/easy (subject to making a few "flavouring" things he gives recipes for keeping in to add to various things).
So I've made one of the "flavouring" things - ie blended peeled lemon and/or limes (ie remove all unwanted bits/chop/put the rest including peel in liquidizer and blitz). That'll save me wasting the lemon peel in future or having the odd lemon "go off" on me before I can eat it (as he puts this pulp into cubes in ice cube trays in freezer). Not got everything in to make the sorta vegan "Parmesan" type grated cheese to put on top of it at the moment - but trip to food buy and I'll have that missing couple of ingredients to make that (making do with just one of the ingredients instead to scatter on top tonight - ie nutritional yeast).
Of course - now I've eaten up all the "basic" cheese in the freezer - what have I been fancying for the last few days - yep a cube of cheese on its own:rotfl:. Wouldnt mind a few squares of chocolate either (at least it's dark chocolate I'm wanting...).
Think this must be what Kittie refers to as "mouth hunger"? Have told myself not to be so illogical and eaten a banana and few hazelnuts ....0 -
I had a wee smile there, received a text from my Nephew who is working 7am-7pm today asking if he there were any LOs going spare as my sister is out he CBA cooking when he gets in but fancies a proper dinner.:rotfl::rotfl:(Knowing my sister there would be plenty of meals like chilli etc. in the freezer he could have had .....) Needless to say a home has now been found for LO soup, steak pie, veggies and mash;)0
