Cooking for one (Mark Two)

caron talking of curry..I want to make a chicken curry from some of last weekend's poached/re-frozen chicken.
Excuse my stupidity:o but I am guessing I defrost it then cook the curry as normal.
As you have all probably guessed, despite my years, I really have no idea about cooking meat, chicken or fish
But that's why these threads are here>>> to helpesp for those weird ones (like me) who lack A.Another?

I started to watch that programme "The Witchfinder" one. Errrrm...wimped out again part way through. I tend to start analysing how much I think "human nature" has changed in 300 years and maybe it's not that much sometimes - and, at that point, I wimp out....
All because of one poor maidservant having a boyfriend in Scotland by the look of it. To our 21st century eyes = her time/her relationship/her business. Two "downer" tv programmes in one day proved a bit much for me - after already watching that "Raped: My Story" earlier today and thinking "I'd already come to the conclusion about 40 years ago what the chances were of appropriate punishment being meted out (hence saying nowt at the time when it happened to me) and concluded they were extremely low - and things aint changed much - yet".
Didnt feel I could handle a 2nd downer programme in one day - but may feel brave enough to finish watching it later - at a safer distance of 300 years or so later...
Off for a bit of shallow escapist fiction....0 -
BTW PN I followed one of your crustless quiche recipes the other day as I had eggs to use up. I adapted it to my 'use up eggs' need and omitted the milk.
I have to say it was good and made me determined to attempt to 'cook' more often.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

You're not alone in this respect at all.I really sometimes have no clue about things.
I must post up a thread or two actually about a couple of different things at some point too, as they are 'related' but a bit too far from this topic to add to it. hmm. Major dilemma for next month at least.
Foods well I've not had tea/dinner yet not decided what to have to be honest, I do have some 'Spring Veg' soup I've had a while I only got it because it did not list tomato on the ingredients as I'm not keen on 'heavy tomato' tasting soups, so my choices are a bit limited in this respect, somehow I don't fancy that this evening though.
What I do want is a waffle or similar (I cannot remember the last time I had any waffles) with some mince on it, but I have neither :rotfl: so that's off the cards. I may settle for another 'chunky veg' soup in a bit that may suffice with some extras thrown in if needed.0 -

(Remember though you can't re-freeze any leftovers once the chicken has been added * so if you make a big batch of curry sauce, fish out a CFO portion so you can freeze the rest.* Guidelines say you shouldn't reheat again - I'll not comment on that, but I don't, not from a food safety point of view but because the chicken really dries up.;))

Hi Karcher, if I'm making a dish using cooked chicken I cook everything until it's at the "nearly ready" stage and then add the defrosted cooked chicken. That way the chicken doesn't dry out. So for a curry I'd get all my veg/sauce until it's just about there turn the heat to really low and then add the chicken, depending on the size of your chunks it will take 5-10 mins max to heat through.

Thanks caron
I've no intention of reheating again, just making enough for my Saturday night curry fix...

Yes. Whatever "normal" is for you....
I have to say it was good and made me determined to attempt to 'cook' more often.
Yeah, I make rash statements like that every time I eat .... and still don't get round to it
Food is good to eat. Getting round to cooking is the hard bit ....0 -

The trouble is .... the tail's wagging the dog.
I don't simply write what I eat ... I stress all the time that I need to eat something/different ... to continue writing.
Trouble is, with the "eat the same thing many times" it starts off hard to do ... which is why today I HAD to open that s0ddin packet and make that bl00dy effort to bodge together a dish using ingredients I had in ... yet no bowl big enough to achieve the job.... because I'd not written anything for a bit.
And do you know what happened next....? Bl00dy dusk that's what. Inadequate lighting for reasonable photos.... I've not yet bothered to check/see, but the camera was struggling to focus/snap anything.
It was tasty though - and - guess what .... I've got leftovers0 -
Brrrrrrr very frosty again, we had a couple of snow showers yesterday but the sun came out in time to melt it before the temp dropped overnight, so mucho car engines idling this morning while the heated windscreens get to work.
The soup I plucked from the freezer turned out to be pea & ham, had that with a cheese scone, I'm at the end of those so need to think about doing some baking this weekend. Decided on Grilled salmon, baby potatoes, leeks & brussels for tea, very nice it was too.
Ladies night turned out to be different, we had a presentation from an image and styling consultant - Mmmm , turns out I'm a blue summer gamine with a hint of dramatic :rotfl:Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
July - Grocery spends = £119.54
Aug - Grocery spends = £42.190
