I'm still juggling my biryani... without a dish adequate enough to contain and cook its entirety I've cobbled together a way of cooking individual parts which I'll bring together in a bit .... but, cooking bits and pieces takes a lot longer than tossing everything into one pot and stirring!

EDIT: Finished and eating .... it's almost dark here! The sun goes down behind the industrial estate pretty early really ....
  • Farway - What tv channel is that on? (ie the Witchfinder General one). I've got Freeview myself - and I guess it might be a Sky one (in which case I cant get it - oh well.....)

I suppose I really ought to find out more about the "Burning Times" (as they were called). No point in burying head in sand - re the strong suspicion that someone with my interests and refusal to do "fitting in" for the sake of it would have been at high risk as a lone woman (just because - if a busybody with influence had decided to start gossiping with that intent). Errrm...hastens to add - no I'm not - but with interests in herbal stuff, etc - there would have been the risk if someone had been "looking for an excuse". One ought to find out a reasonable amount about "human nature" after all I guess...

Had late lunch - cheat of supermarket ready-chopped vegetables for roasting, sourdough bread, cheat hummus (I made it myself - but cheated with tinned chickpeas).

Money, it was Ch 5, but it had signing so maybe the + site?
You're right, you, and many others would be ideal targets. Seems just a bit doddery [dementia?] would do, no need to be lone woman, they hanged a rector as well, no discrimination in torture or hanging, equal opportunities at the end of a rope

Seems the only thing that stopped it was the eventual cost of the Gallows and services of the Witch finder to the local populace, he got too greedy and as with most things, every one wants a service until they have to pay for it

Edinburgh was wonderful in particular the Dome, and absolutely beautiful building, that was highly decorated with Christmas trees and garlands. We ate breakfast on the train so I had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon , and a toasted gf roll.
Lunch at the Dome was sea bass with garlic potato gratin ,pea puree, and orange puree. Sister and I shared a bottle of wine, then had a pear and ginger martini, in lieu of a dessert! Liquor coffee with cointreau.
It rained all day and we got soaked at the Christmas Market, then the train home was kept at Carlisle for an hour, due to flooding between Lancaster and Preston. At Lancaster we had to be bussed to Preston to get the train, had some tortilla chips and dip on train, then had a chicken sandwich with a bag of crisp when I got in to soak up the alcohol.

:T0Today is bitter cold, had the last bit of hm leek and potato soup, with a chicken roll for lunch. Then had my last hm gf pizza for tea with a bit of fruit and nut chocolate.
I love smoked salmon, but couldn't see the trimmings as I looked in tesco last week, I was wondering whether they still did them. I'll check asda next time I'm up there.
Thanks Caronc, I'm glad your pension issue is being sorted.

My dinner went well, but the rice pud was a disaster, it was nothing like any I've had, stuck congealed stuff, just didn't seem to soak up the milk. Oddly enough someone on another thread had similar probs with rice pud

In my defence, I have never made a rice pud in my life, so it was a first for me. I will give it another bash, next time slow cooker, or perhaps see if a nuke version

Pork out of SC and cooling before fridge overnight

    Good evening everyone,

Still no snow here but we have had some spectacularly heavy sleet and hail showers in the last hour so outside is now white and freezing rapidly. Thankfully I don't need to venture out as it will be like the proverbial icerink.

Wort it sounds as though you had a lovely day out, shame about this disruption on the way home.

Interesting re the Witchfinder General I must look that up on Channel 5 player. Ayrshire has a long history of witches /witchcraft and of there is the tale of "Tam o'Shanter" which is set in my birth town. :)

I have been hungry all day not sure if it the cold weather, the extra carbs at breakfast or just plain greed. Despite the beans & toast first thing I had a large bowl of HM soup at lunch and some Krisprolls & pate. I was still munchy so had two satsumas and then the last banana. Around 5pm I had a real notion for some chocolate and it was probably just as well there was none opened or I'd have been in about them. I had a mug of instant hot chocolate instead. :o I'm just about to have nuked HM curry from the freezer with some pitta bread, I've few curries in there so I'll see what takes my fancy when I open the freezer. I have a couple of 1/2 portions lurking so might just use these up.:)

I nuked a WHOLE can of rice pud. Never had a whole can before .... trouble was, when I reached for the jam I realised I only had half a teaspoon left. Oh well.

Ate the rice pud from the jug I nuked it in ... using a big spoon.
