I ended up making a big salad with chunks of chicken mixed up in mayo. The chicken was a bit bland on its own, even though I'd seasoned the water it was poached in, so it needed the mayo.

Scrambled eggs for brunch here. I've still got 2 eggs left and they are well past their bb date so I need to use them up somehow.

I find skinless chicken breast really hard to get flavoursome unless it's cooked with lots of butter and spices/herbs. But at least if it's bland it makes a good base for different dishes. :)

Over cook rather than under cook is my motto too. :)

Going back to containers, I have used lock n lock boxes since they first came out. I use them for everything, the ones in my cupboards are good.
    caronc wrote: »
Re storage boxes - I too like the locking ones, a lot of mine are from Morrisons so cheap & cheerful but they are lasting well.:)
Well that's my mind about made up on storage then, that's three recommendations at least for these so I've made a note to take a look.

-1C here this morning and feels like it, however the sun is shining so hopefully it will warm up a bit soon.
Keep yourself warm I did hear forecaster say possibility of snow when the rain coming in from the Irish sea hits the already cold air that's hanging over the central belt.
Cold here too (Derby) but not 'bitter cold' just annoying. Not going to complain too much as it could be much worse I know. :rotfl:

It did not start well as I stopped at the "hole in the wall" to grab a couple of pennies out and put my Costco card in instead :o , thankfully it came out again. It does not work anyway I need to go and see them (apparently) as its not the primary acc card (this I know) , just pleased machine did not decide it wanted some breakfast really. :D

I noted earlier my local 'off licence' type place now has started keeping (decent brand) frozen mixed veg in so although they are small bags it may be a bit convenient to use rather than wait for the monthly or so online shop.

Lunch today was simply a bowl of 'chunky mixed veg' soup, which also fixed the rapidly expiring 'mini rolls' issue too. :) I do like this brand as its the only one I've found that does not have a heavy tomato taste and its very thick anyway, something I do appreciate.

I do have a tin of 'beef casserole' from Sains I've had for ages but not really wanted to have it just yet. Seem to recall from various reviews its half good but best with a few extra's thrown in (not a bad thought anyway) , the idea I had was when I do manage to grab a bag of frozen Yorkshires is to use the casserole in one of those, and the other big yorkie I can use with my "mega mix" mash.

Talking very quickly about mash, those instant ones I got a while back the "bubble/squeak" and the "onion" ones, as they are quite small packs anyway I had an idea of mixing half from each, (saving the 'left over' in a small jar) so I'd have a 'bubble/squeak/onion' instant mash mix to try, I'm not sure what it would be like but I guess using it with a few other bits thrown in as per usual say some nice garden peas and a few carrots it may make a nice 'filling'

Quick thought on carrots: I only really like the taste of the baby carrots although I'll eat others to me they are just not quite as "nice tasting" somehow. A little experiment a while back and said baby carrots seem to taste even 'better' if you chop them up slightly first, either lengthways strips or say half or quarter them into little bits first. hmm. :T

Dunelm also have a good selection at a fair price if you have a store near you. They had a square/rectangular about 2 ltr
Cheers. They're actually adjacent to The Range, so no trouble to go there :) When I think Dunelm, I just think "curtains" :)

I had 2 bixies/milk/sugar for breakfast, then for lunch I ended up cooking the Yorkie, with brisket/gravy, mash, carrots, brussels sprouts and stuffing. I'm probably half way through the bag of brussels now... when you just eat 6 or so each time it takes ages to go down.

Still got milk leftover.. still got carrots to eat... still got brussels .... still got spuds.... you never actually ever get to the end of food do you!
  • Well - I'm finding it easier to "get to the end of food" now that I've got loads of larder shelf space. So I've been able to put it in order and see what I've got.

Think that's half the problem imo - ie seeing what one has got.

On that note - I can now see I've got pearl couscous and giant couscous in (as well yer standard couscous). Obviously me in experimental mode again when I bought them. Can they be cooked the same/quick easy way as standard couscous (ie 4 minutes sitting in a pan of just-boiled water)? Or is it more involved than that - bcause they're bigger?

If you fancy a change, and budget can run to it, try organic carrots, unlike some organic veg I can really taste the difference with organic carrots
Plus try roasting carrots if not already tried, I think the larger "donkey" carrots would work best here

Lunch was as planned, BLT sarnie
I fancied something sweeter later, so toast + lemon curd. The LC is the W/r 1 brand, dear but lush

Diner is still anticipated to be BLT sarnie, partly for ease & use up the bacon and partly I don't want anything that could add to any tum problems now they seem to have subsided

I've been hankering after something for hours - but was too bone idle to get dressed and go out to the shops. I looked through the cupboard, but found nothing "interesting enough".

I don't really want to make a whole steamed pudding as I'll just eat it (with custard) ... correction .... I DIDN'T want that until I just typed it.

Back in a bit. Off to make a pud with custard :)

EDIT: Did that, currently eating it. I'd intended to cut it in half once cooked and have half, save half .... but then I thought "No ... just eat it...."
