Cooking for one (Mark Two)

Caron - the sooner you can get your new bathroom the better. I'm guessing you probably have one of those shower over the bath arrangements at present? Any progress on getting that pension lump sum yet - now that you've "gone higher" about it?
Food-wise - those vegan "chick'n and apple" sausages came under the "Well I ate it" heading:(. It's a pack of 4 and there are 2 of them left and they aren't so bad that they're destined for the bin. So I'll finish the other 2 tomorrow and shan't be buying them again. They rather confirmed my impression that readymade savoury vegan food usually comes somewhere on a sliding scale of "can manage to eat it but its not tasty up to vile". Cooking from scratch is definitely the way one has to go in this respect to get tasty food imo.0 -
..... am being treated to a meal at the Harvester tonight by my daughter. So not a ot of cooking for me today.I use clips to close the bag at a point just above food level and if you then cut away the excess bag the stuff won't get caught in the crumples. Needs less space in the cupboard that way too:)
Dd1 came last night and bought us a chilli garlic chicken curry from the takeaway, with pilau rice and poppadoms. Plus a bottle of wine each!!
I've not used the slow cooker yet, but looked it up on the Web and it's 1.5 litres. There were a couple of recipes I've copied out too.
Caronc hope you are feeling better.
That sounds like a good feast Wort, thanks for the good wishes:D. My son was bought a 1.5L slow cooker when he moved out and actually finds it too small to cook anything meaningful without over-filling so ended up buying a 3.5L one (which was actually cheaper than the 1.5L one). Although 1.5L sounds like a lot you've only really got room for around 1L of food which isn't much when you are looking a raw ingredients.
Andy - defintely soup weather here as it's freezing.0 -

Best to keep at 'em Caron and not let them think you're quietly "going to sleep and they can forget about it".
Do you still have Union membership? - as I'm wondering if they could give an appropriate kick up the backside (with comments about "Our member really needs her money NOW - and it's x weeks late and causing her the following problems, ie because of not having her new bathroom yet that she will be paying for from this").0 -
Yep that's my shower arrangement! I have wall rails once I get in but getting in and out can be tricky and I'd prefer not to be scraped off the floor in my birthday suit by anyone other than my sister. :eek:Before I had the rails fitted I had an attack in the shower and had to be rescued by my son- talk about "dance of the seven veils" to preserve my modesty and not traumatise him for life.....:rotfl: Not one I wish to repeat! And nope no progress re the pension, I'm getting back on their case come Monday;).
Good luck with the pension caron.
I poached the chicken.
I was rather traumatised by the whole process but one chicken bit is waiting for me to consume in some way, shape or form, whilst the others are cooling to go back in the freezer.
I expect they are all over cooked but I'd rather be safe than sorry!?'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -

Good Morning another dismal freezing cold morning here so thought I would share a little bit of cheer with this bit of good news that popped up me my news feed, lol don't believe a word of it but its nice to think it might be true.

Well now - is that the reasoning behind the fact that a lot of photos I've recently seen of different variants of peoples morning porridge/overnight oats/smoothie bowls have either chocolate chips or sometimes squares of dark chocolate as part of the "decoration"?
I'll scatter things like chia seeds/hemp seeds/berries over my porridge - but I don't think I fancy adding chocolate into that equation personally.0 -
Going back to containers, I have used lock n lock boxes since they first came out. I use them for everything, the ones in my cupboards are good. Rectangle flat ones and all with a label at the front. I get two rows in, side by side. I keep quite a bit of flour at this house, cool and dark in the vermin proof shed, so keeps well but I always put the bags straight into lock n locks after once having weavils, in another house
It was a real CBA day yesterday. I spent 5 hours tootling around in the car, yet again looking at various areas to live in and deliberately chose a saturday. Needless to say that the three places with a higher house density were very busy on the roads and in the centres. I was honestly very glad to get back to a bit of space and am back to plan A ie near where I live. I was starving and bought a plain ham sandwich and a packet of crisps, got back and had the carrot soup but hey ho that was not enough to satisfy that empty, disappointed, feeling, so I piled the rest of my soft strawberry bought ice cream onto a cone until it was a mile high. Naturally I felt guilty after all this, especially since I also dived into frozen cake. Got up with new determination today re the carb and fat overdosing and got to get out on my bike or I`ll turn into a lump
Today breakfast: berries, stewed apple, 4 macademias, puffed amaranth and yogurt
Main: something with lots of vegetables, fish would be good, haven`t had fish for a while
Lesser later meal: soup and sd bread. Got to make the soup but I`ll find one of those lovely recipes in my special book. It has to be broccoli or broccoli and leek
I have one egg out at room temperature, for later this morning, on its own
Tables, oh yes I have a small square one with a nice protector and cloth on it. It can extend but holds papers and books and things I need to put down. I never eat at a table anymore, not on my own, don`t see the point0 -
Had a great meal at the Harvester last night but really overdid the salad bar, don't tend to have too much salad at home during the cold weather so it was a treat and couldn't resist the new baked bread rolls and butter either. The result was seriously struggled with the mixed grill main meal so was really pleased when the friendly little waitress offered a take a way box, result three pieces of steak and two chicken quarters, had daughters as well, brought home and tucked up in freezer.Slimming World at target0
