I have used lock n lock boxes since they first came out. I use them for everything, the ones in my cupboards are good. Rectangle flat ones and all with a label at the front. I get two rows in, side by side. I keep quite a bit of flour at this house, cool and dark in the vermin proof shed, so keeps well but I always put the bags straight into lock n locks after once having weavils, in another house

That's exactly what I was eyeing up - I've one of that particular brand and I liked the shape. The one I've got is 1.8l, off the top of my head, but it's not quite big enough to fit the 1.5Kg of flour I bought. I bet a 2.0 litre one of the same shape would be "spot on" for my 1.5Kg of flour bags... but when you change capacity the shape of the containers changes. The 2 litre one is more of a spaghetti container, so taller/thinner.

It's a combination of finding the right size/shape, at the right price, in a shop that's accessible to you.

The Range flog 'em .... at a good price.

When you're paying 45p for 1.5Kg of flour ... you don't go spending £10 to keep it in :)

Lakeland used to have a lock and lock container that I found very handy and bought several of them - ie tall square one of 4 litre capacity. When I tried to buy a couple more of them they werent doing them any more:(.

Kittie - one does indeed have to "try out" a possible area at various times imo. Many years back now I was all set at the time for living in Birmingham. Now - bear in mind that I was in one of the pleasanter suburbs of it at the time. Well - I went into the centre on Saturday one day - and that was the end of that idea. WAY too crowded for me.

I still stick by location as THE most important factor for a place. Every so often I browse RightMove as what places I would view if money wasnt such a deciding factor (the main deciding factor). Cue for coming up with several that I'd book to view if I could afford them and, out of them, I could see houses that I would have chosen all else being equal on the one hand and all "normal standard" to "just done" standard (an area I know is better part of the city) and a house that needs one heck of a lot of doing to it and is smaller (only 2 bedroom) and that's the one I'd probably be most interested in personally. Because I know that particular road is a nice one and probably about as "safe from future development" as one get in that city (which is a big factor in Southern England). Possible future developments becoming "all too much" isnt a factor in much of Wales - as there is building going on - but its not going to get to be over-development for much of this area during my lifetime imo.

Bearing in mind where you are - a noticeably lower proportion of houses are between "normal" and "just done" standard. Many more of them are doer-uppers. Would you be okay about getting a doer-upper?

I'm going to do some batch cooking today, a veggie curry, something with my pineapple, 4 beetroot to cook and some more salmon pate with butterbeans and yoghurt :)

I totally forgot my overnight oats last night so breakfast will be fruit and greek yoghurt :)

As it's Sunday and I've got milk that needs using up (only used it for 2 lots of Weetabix so far, so hardly a dent in that pint) .... I guess I'd better do a Giant Yorkie ... and use a portion of the chicken or beef from the freezer ... And I've got fresh carrots and brussels that need using up - and I bought a big bag of spuds that need to be eaten.

So I guess that settles it. To use up the milk and the fresh vegetables I'm forced into having a "proper Sunday dinner of sorts" :)

I didn't eat, yesterday, as expected.... no pub meal for me. So I need a bit of a belly filler today.

    Good morning everyone

-1C here this morning and feels like it, however the sun is shining so hopefully it will warm up a bit soon.

Re storage boxes - I too like the locking ones, a lot of mine are from Morrisons so cheap & cheerful but they are lasting well.:)

Thankfully I'm a bit steadier on my feet today, though I will be taking it gently. I've no idea about food will have my usual Sunday brunch and dinner will be something easy to put together. I really must put together a sort of meal plan as I'm falling back into deciding at the last minute what to have which limits my options if things need defrosting first. I'm trying not to batch cook as my freezer space is getting full with Christmas/New Year foods but I could do with some more "go to" meals if I have a wobbly day. I've a fair bit of curry in the freezer but seldom fancy anything spicy after an attack so might make some mince or stew to have on hand:)

I was supposed to be going to a birthday party this afternoon, but a nasty vertigo attack in the early hours put paid to that. I'm sort of back on my feet now so hoping it's a one off and not the prelude to a cluster of attacks. I will be being very careful for a few days and my sister is going to pop round tomorrow so there is someone here when I have a shower.

Sorry about that, vertigo is horrible. I kept getting vertigo a while back, but it seems to have left me, thank goodness.

I had a migraine yesterday and really couldn't be bothered to cook when it ended late afternoon so we ordered pizza in the evening.

I just had two leftover slices for breakfast and have some more slices for lunch. I will have some salad at lunch as well.

I've also had some fruit and tea today.

I will have to have a healthy dinner tonight after that. Rice, beans and veggies in some form, maybe a chilli.:)

Keep yourself warm I did hear forecaster say possibility of snow when the rain coming in from the Irish sea hits the already cold air that's hanging over the central belt.

Sun out here too and we're a balmy 2 degrees warmer than you are :D

Dunelm also have a good selection at a fair price if you have a store near you. They had a square/rectangular about 2 ltr

Morning all, today has started wonky already. Master plan was out to Morries for a mooch on cold but sunny day. But woke up late, then shall we say TMI problems:o, so finished up not daring to go out just in case of repeat

Managed a lazy breakfast, pot of loose leaf tea, toast & HM marmalade

Not sure of lunch, with all the Spam talk I had toyed with a Spam & piccalilli sarnie, but have changed my mind because I found one L/O pack of a twin pack of back bacon.
Unfortunately it's twin had the use by date on, and that was binned long ago. I know it was before end Nov so I will get stuck in and use them, post sniffing, in the next few days

Thus lunch, and dinner, will be bacon. lettuce & tomato sandwiches. 6 rasher in a pack, so should be gone by Tuesday

PN, I had a proper Sunday dinner yesterday, using up freezer bits. It was very enjoyable, loved my roasted carrots & onion. Maybe that was the cause of this mornings problems? Worth it though

I eat off a plate at the table BTW, but not always, sarnies similar finger food on plate sat in lounge, loafing in chair

Lock boxes, I have some, I tend to tip the packet contents into them but tear off any useful info, like dates, and put it into the same box for reference, like others, just to see how far out of date it is
I find them useful for things like detergent & dishwasher tablets for keeping any moisture out

Hope your shower & money is soon sorted. I have similar worries about falling over unable to get up, so I keep cheapo, under £10, charged mobiles in reach from the floor. I have one in bathroom pedestal cupboard, one in the bedside drawer, and one always in my trouser pocket. So far never needed them and hopefully never will

Doubt we'll get snow has we seldom do as on the coast, but they may well get some further inland. It's the local "Wintertainment" today so it's always guaranteed to be freezing, at least it's dry so far;)

Thanks Farway - hope your tummy stays settled.:) I always have my mobile on my person, either in a pocket or if no pockets in a holder on a lanyard. I'm not organised enough to keep several charged.....:o

My Dad popped by for a coffee, he was going into Farmfoods so I asked him if he would get me a pint of milk as I won't have enough to last until my next shop and I've a visitor on Wednesday so don't want to give them UHT or powdered. He did but bought me a four pinter, so I think I might need to make a batch of white sauce. Still it has a decent use by on it so I might get through it.:)
