Moneysaverme wrote: »MAMAN, was your veggie chilli a SW recipe? Could you please point me in the right direction? Or if it wasn't could you let me know what you added to make it so tasty?
Thanks muchly x
I use the Hairy Bikers recipe for chilli con carne and just leave out the meat but add extra beans.
http://www.hairybikers.com/recipes/view/chilli-con-carne#IChc8dehcXr4eQFO.97
This time I added white haricot beans as well as red beans but any will do. Then I put in any veg that's to hand like carrots, peppers, baby sweetcorn, courgettes, mushrooms along with the tomatoes and onions. I substitute some sweetener for the sugar and leave out the flour and wine. I just chop everything roughly and do it in the slow cooker so I don't have to watch it. I never eat it on the day I make it because I think it marinates and the flavours intensify overnight.
Incidentally the canned beans are cheaper in the international aisle at Sainsbury's but I'm going to try my local International/Asian supermarket as they are usually good for a range of pulses both dried and canned.Moneysaverme wrote: »Morning all,
Well last night's stir fry was delish. I will have to find a different sauce as the Morrisons Katsu sauce I used was quite high in syns. But I suppose when split in two portions it was still within my syns.
I always make my own sauce. You can do it syn free with some soy and a few spices like ginger and 5 spice and some garlic and a bit of stock. My favourite for a chicken stir fry is 2 tbsps. of honey (5 syns shared) 1 tbsp. of soy, cook the chicken and veg in that, then add the noodles and just before serving stir in a good few shakes of lime juice (I use a bottle but you can use fresh lime).Maybe some SP days will help. I don't know too much about them, as I'm not allowed to do them, but from what I gather you need to eat 50% speed and 50% protein, plus your healthy extras, although I think you get an extra healthy B.
By doing an SP day you would automatically reduce your calorie intake.
That's right kathrynha. The other no no on SP days is any free food so no yogurts or bananas. I think any carb cutting and consequent increasing of speed is helpful but only provided you don't feel deprived and 'on a diet'.
I'm going to stay 100% on plan and as syn free as possible until Thursday. I'm going to have to WI a day early as we're out all day Friday and it'll be an evening WI so if I lose anything I'll be lucky.:(
Today's EE plan:
B: NAS grapefruit, strawberries, baked beans, HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks
L: LO beef with fried veg inc. potato
D:salmon, SW chips, asparagus, tomatoes and mushrooms
Syns: NONE!!
I'm also upping my water intake to compensate for the weekend alcohol. I've had a litre typing this!:D0 -
Ceycey~~I fell.
As I am disabled I fall a lot but luckily dont normally do too much damage.

morning all - think I have finally caught up on the thread
Apart from wine syns at a really good friends hen do at the weekend, I have been pretty much back on the wagon after a few really bad days last week!
WI tomorrow but I am not holding out much hope given the last week - deservedly soo!
Also trying to up the water intake and back to the gym this evening - I WILL NOT let a couple of bad days derail the fact that I have lost a stone!walk 2018 miles in 2018 - 781 of 2018

Good to hear that the sickness is now down to once a day Kathryn, which is much better than before but must still be very draining.
Hope the black eyes clear up quickly Beanie and that your face isn't too sore.
Yesterday wasn't very good synwise as DH decided to open wine which I hadn't intended having to keep the syns down so now I've only got about 15 or 16 to last from today until WI Thursday morning! So about 5 a day!
Today's plan:
B - bacon, egg, mushrooms
L - chicken salad, fried up garlicy potatoes & corn on the cob - bit of a weird combination but needed using up
D - roast lamb dinner. Need to see if I've got any carrots left which I can roast otherwise it will only be onions and peppers. Also got some swede so will cook some of that as well as a green veg of some sort.
HEA - milk
HEB - none planned but perhaps Ryvita this evening spread with some Quark or mini Cravings (0.5 syn each)
Syns - butter (on the corn) 2; mini cravings (if I have them max 2)

Hello all,
I am Barrie and if its ok I would like to join you with my journey through my life changes.
My DW Hazel started at SW 9 weeks ago and I have been watching from close by. Last Thursday I decided to take the plunge and attended a meeting with her and joined up.
Looking about 9 months pregnant may have been the real motivation. I do have strong stomach muscles so can keep it in when I want but now it gets uncomfortable. Also my waist is above 40 inches. Also have small moobs.
I think I am about 5 stone too heavy. 17st 7lb (5ft 10in)
I have chosen a target weight of 14st to start with. Aim to get to 12st eventually. Most of my weight gain has been in the last 7 years since I stopped smoking.
This is going to be a real change for me because I love Bread. can eat 10 to 15 slices a day. Managed 29 slices of toast in 1 day in the late 90's
Don't take sugar or milk in coffee or tea but do not drink milk.
I am lucky because I love most Vegtables and lots of fruit so that will help. Don't like nuts. Love rice and pasta.
Can exercise when I put my mind to it. Have done 3 walks since Friday above 3 miles with Hazel. Need to work up to running. Managed to lose around 3 stone through running in 2 months in the late 90's so I can do it although I am past 50 now.
I have been reading through the thread and found some great ideas. Most of our household meals are about 10 to 14 basic meals that we tweak slightly. We need to be more adventurous and what I have found on here will help.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0 -
Welcome Barrie! You seem to enjoy a lot of healthy food so that's half the battle (29 slices of toast notwithstanding!) - as you and your wife are doing it together that will make it so much easier!
Great attitude WJN, best of luck for tomorrow!
Success with the soup maker this morning! Threw some frozen BNS, wilty carrots, onions and sweet potato in with a handful of red lentils, chicken and veg stock, and salt and pepper, and the result is a thick orange nectar which will hopefully fill me up for a few hours! Three portions to go in the freezer, and I'm feeling motivated to do a bit more batch cooking...Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Kathyrnha and maman thanks for the info re SP days... yes you're right that's a good way to reduce the cals over the next two days!
Beanielou - hope the black eyes go down soon, you poor thing!
Barrie - welcome! I am new to this thread but everyone on this thread has been super supportive! 15-20 slices of bread... wow.. you really love bread haha my biggest problem is my sweet tooth! Constant battle to say NO! Good luck with SW - sure it will help that your DH is also doing it!0 -
Welcome Barrie to our friendly thread.
You will get loads of recipe ideas from here and also from the SW website. The more variety you can get into your menu plans the better.
I managed to get to target without doing any exercise other than walking round the shops and going on walks with DH when we are away in the motorhome (which is as often as we can - even more so now that we've both retired).
Good luck to both you and your DW.
