Celebrity Masterchef tried their best to sabotage me with a crispy bacon, poached egg and homemade hash brown challenge last night.

So, I decided to make an SW version this morning and had a lean bacon, fried in frylight egg and Asda hash brown sandwich. HEXB bread and 3 syns for 2 hash browns. Followed by fruit :)

I caught the tail end of that challenge topgirl. It always surprises me how low syn hash browns can be although, watching the programme you could probably adapt them to SW very low syn indeed.

thank you all for the warm welcome, what a lovely group this is! I've spent the last 2 days scrutinising the books and app. I am struggling a bit to get my head around some aspects of it but thats because I have always been a WW girl and SW is completely new to me! I did shop in Iceland yesterday buying some of SW ready meals, some meat and seafood and that came to £51, then off to Asda this morning which came to £72! I'm hoping these are just start up costs because I definitely can't afford that every week! I'm hoping that once I get the swing of it and learn what I like (ie. fave cereal, yogs) I can bulk buy when offers are on. Getting my shopping bill down will be additional motivation for me to stick with it!
One question I have is can you save up your syns? I have a friend who says she has no syns in the week and saves them up for the weekend. But I haven't so far found any reference to saving up syns?

I just had my weekend breakfast too consisting of 3 rashers bacon, 2 scrambled eggs, dry fried mushrooms and 1/4 can baked beans. I had 1 x slice wholemeal toast (because it was from 800g loaf) and a scrape of extra light marg on it. If I have this right, all is free except toast is from HEB and I should syn the marg?

You're absolutely spot on with your breakfast cookie. All I'd say is that you need to be sure to get a third of Speed food in and the mushrooms are the only Speed in your breakfast. Don't worry though because you can make it up later in the day. I rarely have much Speed at breakfast but make up for it with more like 50% for lunch and dinner. Or you can snack on Speed fruit. IMO, planning and Speed are the most important aspects of SW.:)

Saving syns isn't the official way (which is why you won't find it written down) but it's very common. Lots of us on here do it. I've done it from Day 1. I eat fairly syn free all week and use all my syns (mostly on booze:o) at weekends.

That seems like a heft grocery bill. How many are you cooking for? What have you been buying (except maybe Frylight) that you weren't buying before that's so expensive? It really doesn't have to be expensive to do SW.

I'm planning some cooking for the freezer this afternoon. Pork burgers with sage & onion and some chunky chilli con carne (with beef cubes rather than mince).

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAs grapefruit, baked beans, HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks
L: veggie (tomato, mushroom, courgette, spring onion) omelette with lettuce and pickles
D: Aldi Lamb Rogan Josh with extra mushrooms, pilau and probably SW chips.
Syns: 1.5 for curry, rest for gin!:D
  • It's a STS for me this week. I've been off plan with many chocolate syns. I stuck to SW meals all week but got hit hard by sweet cravings which I couldn't resist. Oh well, I'm not going to worry, I've been trying so hard and doing so well. I'll just refocus and knock the excess syns on the head this week.

Funny how some weeks are easy and others just seem sooooo hard!

I've made free ones before, grated raw potato, raw onion, an egg to bind, season well, loads of frylight and baked or fried. As long as you squeeze the grated potato in kitchen roll a few times to get rid of the moisture, they're lovely.

However, I'm working (second job) today so I decided to sacrifice the 3 syns for an easy life.

Enjoy your gin and think of me. 105 syns per week seems extortionate when you're not drinking, however, my new found sweet tooth is taking care of them and then some for me!

TIE~~I have a friend with a similar job to you.
It is just beyond me TBH that it seems to be ok that you are kicked pinched prodded & hit on a regular basis.
I cannot think of any other job where this would be even romotely acceppable. I am all for inclusion but there comes a point that enough is enough.End of.

MissTeach Don't you just love them all you can eat cruises. In the 13 years we have been on cruises I have had to buy 5 Dinner suits because my size just kept growing. The last one we did in Oct 2016 we made a point of walking at least 5 miles a day around the running track. Helped keep the weight gain down to a minimum. Too many free drinks! Have the luxury of being able to drink for free for 4 hours a night! Nothing goes down quicker than a free drink!:D

Scarborough and especially Whitby are so good for Fish and Chips. Only live 23 miles from Scarborough. Off there this afternoon when Hazel gets home from work.

We did lots of walking whilst we were there but clearly not enough! It definitely didn't help that I worked my way through the cocktail menu but my favourite was one of the milk based ones!
And yes, we had delicious fish and chips in Scarborough and a very delicious afternoon tea as well!

It's a bit difficult to read the food values bubbs but I think I found the fat content near the bottom. The prawn cocktail is coming out at 12.5 syns for 100g:eek:

I couldn't agree more beanie. I think tie's employer should be taking their duty of care far more seriously. I don't think switching her to being kicked half the time is a good enough solution.

Yesterday, I forgot to get weighed. I was supposed to be at the races, but agreed to do something to stop a massive delay in something I am working with. So I was up early, set off at 5.30 am drove 90 miles south, had a full day of hell, drove back home arrived at 7pm, 10 minutes to get changed, and drove to York for a night out with the friends that had been at the races. I realised half way there that OH was piddled already. When we arrived, one friend was so ill she went to bed. We had drinks and danced until the early hours of the morning, absolutely exhausted but best exercise over. I had 6 gins and was totally piddled as I had only had tomato and a banana all day (we got there too late for the meal). Today, we had a full breakfast (SW friendly) but since then I have not stopped eating...ham, eggs, quark, popcorn (metcalf skinny version) and now I am eating sliced onion dipped in brown sauce..... I may tell OH I am pregnant!

  • Hi BUBBS,

Just checked SW online, if it's Waitrose chilled prawn cocktail (200g pot), it's 29 per pot. If it's the reduced fat one (also 200g), its 15 per pot.

    Hope this helps.
