Wouldn't dream of telling you to mind your own business. I don't mind telling you, swimminginaseaofdebt
With a username like yours I imagined that you are in a similar plight to me, debt-wise but see from your sig that you are in a much healthier position. Maybe you've already paid off a mountain of the stuff. Whatever the situation, very well done:T
I'm on A DMP and am paying my debts at an arranged rate. This is as much, probably more, than I can comfortably afford. I don't spend an unnecessary penny from my incomings and that's why this thread has been such a bonus for me as it's made life bearable rather than a permanently broke struggle:j. I still don't feel happy about treating myself though, being careful and watching every penny is too ingrained now;).
As is usual with most creditors of people on DMPs, the interest is frozen so at least the debts don't get bigger however much is paid per month. It was the obscene interest rates that got me into a lot of this mess in the first place, I must have paid many, many, many thousands in interest over the years and don't feel a bit guilty about not having to pay any more of it;).
A lot of people on DMPs have, after a long time in debt and after paying their creditors for a long time, negotiated what's called a Full &Final Settlement with some creditors which is usually around 50% of the remaining balance. Some people have negotiated 40% or even less, whilst some creditors won't play ball and accept anything less than 100%. The creditors who do accept a F&F then consider the debt satisfied and that's the end of it. It can never be taken for granted that they'll do it though, some people have a real battle.
I'm paying my debts at the agreed rate and should be debt-free by the end of 2020 but I'm madly trying to get as much together as I can from extra money I make on this thread (and now from the PPI refund too:j) to start making credible F&F offers by early next year.
Alas, my plans may all come to nothing as my car is 15 years old and although it sailed through its MOT this month I can't expect it will stay healthy forever. I dread having to splash out all my F&F savings on a 'new' car:eek:
I might be tempted to treat myself to a good reading lamp though;). I do a lot of reading, it's my main hobby, and I'd love a really powerful lamp with a directable beam.0 -

If I remember right cash can be paid in using your debit card, cheques have to go into a special envelope but if they cover your bank they will (should) have them behind the counter. It's worth a quick ring to the post office or popping in to ask which high street banks etc they cover. I image it's most as we've had three banks in the town close and I know people from all who have used the post office instead of driving to the next town.
EDIT: Just spotted your PPI news! Well done you. Now go get that reading lampMSE-ing since 20070 -
Moving fund update.
Previous amount: £175
Adding in: £121 (extra freelance work).
July total to date: £296
Now... if someone could just find a way around this silly "only 24hrs in a day" rule for all of this work I have to do between now and end the of the month, that'd be grand.
Roll on moving day is all I can say! We're having a mass declutter this weekend and I'll be listing bits of the local FB buy/sell pages and freecycling some too (strictly speaking freecycling isn't making money but I'd rather something get used than it go to the skip and besides, when you're an active "offerer" you are more likely to be chosen for something you'd like that's on offer, saving money down the line). MusicM@gpie is getting hit at the weekend too.
Have a good Friday everyone xMSE-ing since 20070 -

I'm a Freecycle fan too:T. Have donated lots of stuff over the years and received some really useful items too. Like you, I'd rather someone take something away and make use of it rather than just take it to the tip or get a very small amount for it at a carboot sale. Freecycle has been a good source of printers for me, mine always seem to die at the most inconvenient times, such as when I can't afford to buy a replacement:eek:.
I don't know whether it's a universal rule of all Freecycle groups but in mine it's essential to have offered items before they allow anyone to post a 'wanted' request. I never see printers offered but whenever I've put a 'wanted' request on there I'm inundated with offers:j
Good luck with your weekend decluttering:beer:0 -
Just had a declutter of my email inbox and saw an unread offer from eBay. I get so many emails from them I tend to ignore most of them and never bother to read them:o
This one is an invitation-only offer of free listing and final valuation fees on 10 items until Sunday. People on here probably know that I hate selling on eBay:o but I might just be tempted to list a few things whilst this offer is on. I need to find something fairly high-value so I get the full benefit of the free final valuation fees and also that's easy to pack and post;)
Don't hold your breath though:rotfl:0
