That's interesting, Pyxis -as far as we know, they don't sell anything at our tip at all! Certainly not to members of the public, at any rate.
Maybe you've never looked for it ... there's a metal container at mine. Some stuff's inside that (you can't go in there...) and there's a bit outside. Maybe there's one at yours, inside a metal container, without any signs ... and you simply didn't know.
Mine has no signs, no indicators, no clues... just a few bits/bobs stacked outside - and it's noticeable because you HAVE to drive past it on your way round.0 -
Sue, I have no idea how Motability works. I noticed a Ford B Max for sale locally for £6k, 5 years old with only 15k miles. I have no idea whether that's cheap - probably not - but it's very low mileage. Can you get secondhand cars on the Motability scheme?
Edit: The B is Fiesta sized, whereas you probably prefer/need the C, which is based on the Focus.
No, you can only get new cars on Motability. They publish a list of available models, which is revised every 3 months. You can only order a new one when they tell you it's time to, so if you have a look too long beforehand you might find one that would suit you, only to discover when it's time to actually order, that that particular vehicle is no longer/not currently available under the scheme, or that it's still available but the advance payment has increased so much as to be unaffordable for you. If the only one that's suitable is unaffordable, they can give a grant to help with the advance payment.
OH receives War Pension Mobility Supplement, which is a higher amount than DLA/PIP, so the advance payment will be less for him than for Sue. He also needs to drive an automatic, and can get a grant to make up the difference between the advance payment on an automatic version of a particular model and the manual version. People on DLA or PIP can't, which isn't fair0 -
Just hand out those blue fibreglass cars... simples.

So wrong and "out of character" that ... it's a bit of a worry really.
Shouldn't worry, it probably wasn't a maths error so much as a momentary muddling up 40 with 50. It could have been anything, and down to a momentary lapse of concentration, like when I put some oven chips on a baking tray, and then opened the dishwasher instead of the oven! :rotfl:
They are next to each other, and both have a drop-down door!
And I did it twice, two days running!
(I didn't actually put the baking tray with the chips into the dishwasher, though!)

I think the trouble with "finding little bargains" is you get swept up with the excitement of the find. You think "it'll look great..." and you take it home and put it there.... and, some years later, you think "whatever possessed me to buy that? never used it, it gets in the way when I try to do XYZ, it's a faff to clean round... and now I have to take it to the tip...."0
