We'll put you down as having a 'garden room' then
I plan to use the space as:
somewhere to drop and forget bags when I come into the house;
somewhere to kick off an assortment of shoes, slippers, wellies when I come into the house;
somewhere to hang clothes that are drying and forget all about them for a week or two;
somewhere to chuck things I intend to sort out;
.... when it's selling time I'll enquire of the agents what sort of room people are looking for .... and dress it accordingly.
Lob a table in: it's a dining room.
Lob an easel in: it's a craft/hobbies room.
Lob an ironing board in: it's a spacious laundry room
Lob a shoe rack in: it's a boot room.
Lob a daybed in: it's an occasional 3rd bedroom
Lob a desk in: it's a study/work from home office/homework room.
It's a room.... and can therefore be anything.0 -

Wow, big earthquake and tsunami in Turkey/med!!0

What struck me from the news coverage is how many Brits had no idea what to do in an earthquake.
They should be hiding under a desk or in a door frame, not trying to walk through a kitchen full of glass and knives.
Recently tourists have had a campaign to show what to do in a terrorist attack. Knowing what to do in an earthquake/tsunami/forest fire/hurricane or tornado would be just as useful.
I don't know if it is still the case, but these survival techniques used to be in the front of phone directories in the USA... California gets earthquake advice, Florida hurricanes, etc.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Very true. Earthquakes generally last 30 seconds, which usually isn't long enough to get outside. So you just need the safest place that's very close by.
We had a tiny quake here in London, and I felt the house shaking very slightly. More of a wobble. It felt 'odd', and then I looked it up in the news.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I thought the advice was to get outside, so as not to have stuff fall on you?
edit.... I checked...... both are correct......
"During an Earthquake
If you're indoors, stay there. Get under -- and hold onto --a desk or table, or stand against an interior wall. Stay clear of exterior walls, glass, heavy furniture, fireplaces and appliances. The kitchen is a particularly dangerous spot. If you’re in an office building, stay away from windows and outside walls and do not use the elevator.
If you're outside, get into the open. Stay clear of buildings, power lines or anything else that could fall on you.
If you're driving, move the car out of traffic and stop. Avoid parking under or on bridges or overpasses. Try to get clear of trees, light posts, signs and power lines. When you resume driving, watch out for road hazards.
If you're in a mountainous area, beware of the potential for landslides. Likewise, if you're near the ocean, be aware that tsunamis are associated with large earthquakes. Get to high ground.
If you’re in a crowded public place, avoid panicking and do not rush for the exit. Stay low and cover your head and neck with your hands and arms."(I just lurve spiders!)

For me, I think that by the time I'd realised what was going on - and had a minor panic with 1001 thoughts in my head..... it'd be over.
It's easy to look up/think what to do in an earthquake right now as we're not in one ... but if everything's suddenly shaking (especially if it wakes you up and you're disorientated and in the dark) ...different ball game.0 -

Which is why some earthquake prone countries/regions (Japan and Callifornia, I believe, probably others too) have regular drills at school so that the correct action is instinctive and as the population ages more and more people have that instinct.0 -

Sister & family flew to Kos yesterday afternoon.
She's fine but shaken - literally and metaphorically.
