It's a posh conservatory - often with brick instead of glass walls, windows and a glass roof.
If you hadn't turned down that lantern roof what you're having would be very similar0 -

Well... technically then, I've got one in the plans.
Sort of....
Or, as I'd say: A full width entrance porch with sliding doors and a glass roof ...
So the rest of it's brick.
It'll be a west facing space I can sit in my £4 folding chair and enjoy a cheese sandwich of an evening out of the wind/drizzle0 -
Indeed - better alter those extension plans to include an orangery :rotfl:
With a pergola leading off it, down to a small ha-ha! Hahahahahaha!(I just lurve spiders!)

I'd love to know what people see/think when they want one.
I suppose it's just a garden feature and something to grow climbing plants up to create an arch over a path. A shaded walkway.
They can look lovely with flowering climbers, and if they are scented as well, more's the better!(I just lurve spiders!)

When I see the word I think of them being just outside the patio doors, on the patio, where a conservatory might've gone... rather than somewhere else.
People, in photos, seem to sit under them.0 -

Yes, they have morphed a bit.
Strictly speaking, a pergola, as I understood it, was a shaded walkway, whereas an arbour was somewhere you sat.
A gazebo was also somewhere you sat, with open sides but a solid roof, and usually with a view to 'gaze' at, hence the name.(I just lurve spiders!)

As somebody who hasn't ever had a conservatory, nor will I ever probably .... all these names are just confusing
I have sat in a couple of conservatories over the years - not often, maybe less than a dozen times in total. LOVE the idea, which is, in part, why I plan to have enough space in my "porch" to sit when it's windy/wet ... but I'd not need a whole one; nor is the orientation of my house correct for considering one for the uses I'd use it for.0 -

I wouldn't want one. My parents had one on their bungalow, east-facing, fully double-glazed including the roof - and it was too damned hot to use in the summer, too damned cold in the winter.
I do have a small arch between my patio and lawn - which will look good when the climbing roses have grasped both it and what is expected of them.
At the moment it's where the politer birds perch whilst waiting their turn on the feeder - the less polite ones seem to use it as a "launching pad" for their final swoop to drive the others off the feeder0 -

I was presented with a lantern window in the roof, but I binned that as I said "seagulls will sit/!!!!!! on that and I'll end up with a perpetual problem of staring up at the 4rse end of birds" as it'd give them a nook out of the wind...they might even build a nest there.
I've not put in for what I imagined or envisaged ... but it fulfils the primary purposes.... so I left it at that.
I think those with larger budgets/aspirations have the financial clout to demand more and more of architects, but for a simple single storey add on bit with a loo there comes a time when you just have to say "that'll do"
There's no orangery - and, to be honest, I don't actually know what one is.... so I won't miss it.
I've got "Extra space, to throw crap into .... and a bog".
It's been 3 weeks now since I said "do it", so I logged on earlier to view it online/download a plan for myself as I've absolutely no idea what I asked for....but it's not there, so I phoned the architect. It appears that submitting it is one thing .... then the Council have to do something that also "submits" it to their online portal/list... which I didn't know about and it's in there somewhere... and I'm guessing the "2 months" for PP doesn't even start until it's on their site.
*sighs* ... more stupid hoops than you can imagine....
If I get it I'll get: a "sense of arrival" for visitors who wish to bang on the door; a bit of an area I can sit in the sun indoors; a loo/shower; a back door to the garden/utility room with a sink/washing machine in it - it can be what people wish it to be. It'll also increase general security and cut down on wind (it's a VERY blowy area).I think....0
