i was trying to use it via a tablet but could not get any further than putting in recipient details. I have now sorted it on the desktop using nationwide card reader and have done a trial out payment that was received straight away, so the account is now working, but it has taken 7 weeks since application to get to this stage and I still have not got ub's card reader!

I opened a bank of cyprus uk account on wednesday 09th august, account number, sort code, user id received in minutes via email and just awaiting login passcode that should arrive any day in the post.

took me 7 weeks to be able to use the account fully, still have no ub card reader, used a nationwide one.

Compare this shambolic "bank" with bank of cyprus uk, applied online wednesday 09th august, account number, sort code, user id received in minutes via email, login code arrived monday 14th august.

So a total of 5 days, (including a weekend), and I can, and am, using the account fully.

I think ub need to take lessons from bank of cyprus uk on how to operate a bank.

Card reader finally arrived today, (8 weeks after original application), but to late for this shower as I have moved my money to Bank of Cyprus UK.

  • I had hoped not to have to write about this account again but this morning after receiving an activation code (applied for account 21.07) I was intrigued as to what the on-line account would be like so I duly signed in with relevant details and entered, as requested, a new PIN and Password. Checked the site and logged off. No money in there as I don't think this concern would be capable of looking after it properly!

About 10 minutes after logging out I needed to confirm something with the UB account so went through the Logging-In procedure again.

I had carefully written down the relevant details and, lo and behold, the message came up my details were not recognised. I know I had entered them correctly as I did it very carefully but the system said I could try again. I did this, being even more careful and slower, and, you've guessed it again I had a message

"For your security, your Anytime Internet Banking service has been temporarily locked. No further attempts will be accepted. If you provide the following details you should be able to access the service in just a few minutes".

They then require a page of personal info that was supplied at account opening, which I shall not bother with.

What a shower! Since "endeavouring to open" this account I have opened at least three others, inc Shawbrook and Bank of Cyprus and the accounts were opened on-line immediately with just having to wait a few days for a code in the post for one of them.

UB are a Mickey Mouse concern - and that's being unkind to Mickey Mouse!

I'm still holding out apparently for the record... applied end of June & ordered card reader, card etc - still waiting (16th Aug).

Have been suffering the interminable phone wait to get funds out ...and into Bank of Cyprus...

I've got 2 readers... no card & no pin.

I'm not too bothered now as I'm (fairly) confident I can get access to my balance if they drop the rate, or something else crops up that beats it.

    Just a quick up-date: I received in today's (18/08) post...
    wait for it....

    Yet another card reader!

    Still no card or pin!

Just to add a bit of balance to what seems a rather anti-UB thread: I applied exactly one month ago, and the application was completed yesterday, in that I have an account, a card, a PIN and a cardreader.

As soon as the PIN arrived I set up a new Payee OK and then did a test transfer in and a transfer back out again.

And yes, it was a rather long and sometimes confusing process, but in the interests of fairness I feel obliged to report that at least some people do actually get a successful result!

Still took you a month when other institutions open them in minutes or a few days online. Then the untruths, misinformation and general incompetence.

    I won,t be using them

Not wishing to tempt fate but so far so good - account opened yesterday, showing online today and first transfer credited immediately.

Just have to see how long the card, reader etc takes now but, due the delays others have experienced, I decided to just add £10.00 initially and once everything is properly up and running I'll transfer a bigger lump sum.

My experience regarding this account has been far less problematic than others.

Card reader, card and PIN received yesterday, completed a test transaction out to my bank account today which credited immediately. So all in all I'm reasonably happy with the account and it being fully functioning within 10 days.

I agree it took a bit of time (2 weeks) to get the card reader, card, PIN etc, but opening the account itself was instantaneous, as was the ability to transfer money in.

In my case (and I suspect this is true for most people) I intended to deposit money there and leave it for a while to earn the interest, so the time-lag getting facilities to make withdrawals really wasn't a problem.

I'm happy with the account. It does what it says on the tin: 1.25% and I can now withdraw instantly whenever I want.

Applied it on 23 June, almost 2 months now. Requested twice for the card/pin/card reader, only received the card reader twice, still waiting for the card and pin!

Unfortunately I have already sent 10K over, otherwise I will close the account without any hesitation.

I applied on a Sunday and got the same message. I tried again on Monday morning and the account was opened immediately. Please note that they took a £1.01 test payment from my credit card on the Sunday and again on the Monday. The £2.02 was only a reduction to my available balance and was removed 4 or 5 days later.
