I have a card reader - a genuine Ulster Bank one from an account that was closed several years ago.

Do you think it is worth listing it on eBay? If everyone with a card reader that is no longer needed did this the shortage should be solved.

Remember all these card readers are the same in the same way that Cash Points are the same. We have accumulated five or more over the years.

I suspect you won't need eBay, by now you'll probably be inundated with PMs from posters on here!

My card reader arrived this morning, 7 calendar days after my card and within their promised working days. I changed my pin (which was not possible on the Nationwide reader and already made a test withdrawal with that earlier).

All in all apart from a slight glitch enrolling online I'm satisfied with this account and the good rate since read the terms and did not put money I needed before having the means to withdraw.

My card reader finally arrived today - 6 weeks to the day after I applied for the account - see post #317. I managed to get all my money out at the end of last week - fortunately only a test deposit - by using my Nationwide card reader with my Ulster Bank pin. The same day I phoned Ulster Bank and asked them to close the account. Unbelievably in this day and age of online banking to do that they require a letter with my signature on it!

With tongue in cheek I really do think a complaint should be made to Trading Standards about the term 'Easy Access'. This account was anything but easily accessible when I tried to get money out online in the first six weeks. Never again, Ulster Bank, never again!

I'm still holding out apparently for the record... applied end of June & ordered card reader, card etc - still waiting (16th Aug).

Have been suffering the interminable phone wait to get funds out ...and into Bank of Cyprus...

I've got 2 readers... no card & no pin.

I'm not too bothered now as I'm (fairly) confident I can get access to my balance if they drop the rate, or something else crops up that beats it.

same experience as others, took ages to receive the phone code to set up a password, it kept saying it was invalid, fourth time of filling out and receiving it finally worked, then straight away asked to upload photo i.d. i have none. couldn't find online help, ended up asking for online chat in the ask a question box, and i found it from there, was told finally would have to go in to bank with statements from other accounts for proof of id.
this is supposed to be internet banking only. this is the first time ever i have been asked for photo id .not happy. waste of a day.

Seventeen pages of posts; virtually all negative. I wonder if UB are aware of this. I assume that they must also be monitoring their own customer services records.

I would love to know if this venture offering 1.25% easy access was an overall success for them given that RBS and NatWest only offer 0.01%?

Just opened this account :T - it has taken over 3 weeks to do so, and I see now the advice to get a card reader and PIN before depositing money.

Possibly a result of popularity from this website?

Edit - just seen more earlier posts - I've now decided not to pursue my application because of the difficulties people are experiencing.

i was trying to use it via a tablet but could not get any further than putting in recipient details. I have now sorted it on the desktop using nationwide card reader and have done a trial out payment that was received straight away, so the account is now working, but it has taken 7 weeks since application to get to this stage and I still have not got ub's card reader!

I opened a bank of cyprus uk account on wednesday 09th august, account number, sort code, user id received in minutes via email and just awaiting login passcode that should arrive any day in the post.

took me 7 weeks to be able to use the account fully, still have no ub card reader, used a nationwide one.

Compare this shambolic "bank" with bank of cyprus uk, applied online wednesday 09th august, account number, sort code, user id received in minutes via email, login code arrived monday 14th august.

So a total of 5 days, (including a weekend), and I can, and am, using the account fully.

I think ub need to take lessons from bank of cyprus uk on how to operate a bank.

Card reader finally arrived today, (8 weeks after original application), but to late for this shower as I have moved my money to Bank of Cyprus UK.
