Card finally arrived today, still awaiting PIN and reader, 6.5 weeks since application and counting!

    PIN arrived, late post.

Have tried to add a payee using a Nationwide reader but am having trouble, will try again tomorrow.

I assume the card pin (which they say is 3 to 5 working days away) is different to the login pin?
It is. Otherwise it would be much too easy. :)
  • PIN arrived today but no Ulster card reader.

I tried my old Natwest card reader and it worked.

Now I can start saving in this bank account without any worries.

I added a payee with a Nationwide reader, and sent a test amount which arrived immediately. The only thing you can't do is change your pin, I assume you need the Ulster one for that.

I was trying to use it via a tablet but could not get any further than putting in recipient details. I have now sorted it on the desktop using Nationwide card reader and have done a trial out payment that was received straight away, so the account is now working, but it has taken 7 weeks since application to get to this stage and I still have not got UB's card reader!

I opened a Bank of Cyprus UK account on Wednesday 09th August, account number, sort code, User ID received in minutes via email and just awaiting login passcode that should arrive any day in the post.

I applied for the e-saver account on 4 July. The account was opened on 14 July and I deposited £200 as a test deposit to see how things went. I then tried to withdraw £50. That's when I found out I needed a card reader and card. I then applied for those and waited. On 1st August I phoned Ulster Bank and asked where the card and reader were. Promised them on 3rd August. Nothing arrived. I raised a formal complaint with Ulster Bank.

10 August - a letter arrives dated 3 August with my pin number for the card they say they sent me earlier. 11 August - card arrives with a letter dated 3 August. Still no card reader.

I've had enough - closing the account today. What a shambles Ulster Bank are! Why on earth don't they automatically send out the card reader, card and pin when the account is opened.

Further to my previous 'now you can' post I got another 10k out this morning but not before the CS said can't do it.

When I argued I did it yesterday he subjected me to several minutes of classical music 'while he checked'... and then asked some more security questions & et voila, did it.

He said he's had customers on this morning and it hadn't worked for them, and apologised for assuming it would be same for me.
    I'll maybe do another tomorrow...
  • Hi all,

I opened the eSaver about a month ago. Opening was straight forward, and mobile banking app works well.

As others have mentioned, you can't withdraw until you have a card, pin, and card reader which Ulster Bank don't send automatically. Quite why they do it like this is beyond me, do they think nobody will ever withdraw their money!?

Anyway, 2 weeks after having requested one I'm still waiting for my card reader. Without card reader there is NO way to get your money, they won't do it over telephone banking and you'd have to be in Northern Ireland to get to a branch (RBS ones won't work).

Not a disaster, just be aware of timescales before you transfer any money.

    All the best

But any card reader will do, from any bank using "standard" card readers (not HSBC or M&S as these don't actually read the card) and belonging to anybody.

You still need the PIN and the card though.

Read the post immediately before - I haven't got an anytime card, but phone banking can work - although I can't actually tell you how or why.
I'm over 6 weeks since ordering my card&reader and have 3 complaints running (and was offered a 4th last night for wasting nearly 2 hours before and after midnight with their Manchester based facility?)
I'm likely to withdraw near all my funds this way if possible until I get a card & pin that works, then put it back if their interest rate is available/better & I have gained some confidence.
