Looks like the Bank of Cyprus 1.3% been withdrawn, so this tops the tables again.

BoC 1.3% ac is replaced by a 1.2% with 12-month introductory 0.60% fixed rate bonus. After 12 months interest rate reverts to the gross underlying variable rate.

For now, you can still fund the 1.3% if you've got it.

My esavings account was opened on Monday 7th August which was confirmed by a letter in online banking. On Tuesday I received a text and email from noreply@digidocs.ulsterbank.co.uk requesting me to upload my ID documents to enable my account to be opened as quickly as possible. I ignored these assuming a cross-over of different systems.

On Friday 11th August I received a second text and email reminding me that I needed to upload my documents to digidocs to get my account opened.

I spoke to Ulster Bank today and they couldn't see these texts but they could see their own texts confirming a new payee on my account. All of these texts stated that they were from Ulster Bank.

The Ulster Bank customer advisor confirmed that my account was fully opened and asked me to forward the email to phishing@ulsterbank.com and the text to their scam reporting text number. She didn't think these were scams but my reporting them should ensure that I do not receive any more.
  • My final note on this disastrous account opening procedure, which I started on 21st July!

Replied to an email they sent for on-line digi-documents of passport etc on 26th July and that email said my account would be open within ONE WORKING DAY!.

Forward to today (14th August) - just received letter confirming my account number and sort code - so that I could put money into the account!. Purely out of curiosity, and with all the emails and posted letters I have received with various numbers I would need, I tried to access my account on-line, only to find out that I still need to wait for an "Activation Code"! So almost a month after supposedly being able to open the account on-line, I still cannot log into my "opened" account!

Unbelievable and totally outrageous. I have no intention of using this Bank to look after my money - they have proved, far and above what is necessary, that they are complete idiots and I wouldn't let them look after my waste bins never mind trust them with my money!

  • Finally.... I applied for an account on June 22nd. I received a pin and anytime banking card yesterday. Having lost any hope that a card reader (yes I did order one) might arrive anytime soon I popped into Nat West this morning and they happily handed me one.

That's 7.5 weeks from start to hopefully having a functional account! Perhaps I should actually try the card and pin before presuming!

Took me 7 weeks to be able to use the account fully, still have no UB card reader, used a Nationwide one.

Compare this shambolic "bank" with Bank of Cyprus UK, applied online Wednesday 09th August, account number, sort code, User ID received in minutes via email, login code arrived Monday 14th August.

So a total of 5 days, (including a weekend), and I can, and am, using the account fully.

I think UB need to take lessons from Bank of Cyprus UK on how to operate a bank.

Applied online with full details. No further ID requested. Account opened next day with a/c no. and sort code. Could access my details and sent test payment of £1 which was credited immediately. Ordered card reader.
Security PIN and card arrived by post within 5 days and card reader shortly afterwards. Changed PIN to suit me. Made a further deposit (instantaneous) then a test withdrawal of £1 to my main bank. Equally instantaneous with Faster Payments. Monthly interest credited. All going well so far :)

Have you ever banked with someone within the RBS group? I bank with NatWest and my Ulster Bank esavings account was opened within a day. In fact, when I downloaded the Ulster Bank mobile app it asked for my NatWest bank mobile app credentials which allowed me to log in to UB.
  • I opened my Ulster Bank Easy Access Account about two months ago. I had a few difficulties but eventually I managed it. At that time I made the big mistake of putting some money in, but there is no way of getting it out. I have been trying to get a card reader for over 1 month now, but with no success. On the numerous occations I have contacted them all I have been told is they are having issues with supplies. As a warning to everyone who is thinking of opening an account with Ulster Bank, DO NOT DO IT. OPEN THE ACCOUNT WITH A PROPER BANK AND SACIFICE THE 0.05% INTEREST. It is not worth the hassle.
