Barclaycard Existing Customers Loophole Discussion

  • I was offered the 6.9% rate on Friday and delayed in order to clear my balance before doing a transfer of about £10K to the card. I'm so glad I called Barclaycard today before I paid off the balance (which was already at a decent rate), as they appear to have withdrawn the offer. The article about this makes it sounds like all existing customers can avail of this 6.9% rate at all times but that doesn't appear to be correct. If it is correct, can anyone tell me how to get it through to the better rate gatekeeper at their Mumbai call centre?

    The offer is still listed.

Under "important information" they do state:

    Applications are subject to status
  • Will they give you more credit in order to take advantage of this? I'm at my limit already on my barclaycard yet would like to transfer a balance to them at the lower rate.

How do you avoid transfer charges. Balance return immediately ?

You can't. The thread was started 6 years ago at a time when fees were not universal.

On my account the fee is 2.9%, recently up from 2.5%. 3% is pretty much the norm on many accounts.
  • I have a barclaycard platinim with half it's credit still available, the other half is on a 0% for 24 months deal. As Christmas is now over I am looking to tidy up my affairs and transfer a bit more to this card (preferable at the 6.9% rate). The website and the chaps on the phone tell me I have not currently got any balance transfer offers available and to check back at another time. surely if there is remaining credit on my card, I can transfer to it (at some rate)?
    Your thoughts would be welcome?

My LOB BT offer which had been a fixture on my account for months if not years disappeared very recently. I think others reported the same.

I would have thought a BT at standard rates should be possible - but they are entitled to refuse if they want to.

If you're up for a BT at standard rates, look at your cash advance rates/charges. They may still allow you to do a cash advance and the cost might be similar. You could then use the cash advance to pay off the other card(s). Only problem is there will likely be a limit on cash advances too (there isn't on mine - so I suppose it is down to the ATM or what somebody would give me over the counter).
  • Don't fancy the thought of a cash advance as I may as well pay the existing rate on my other card, it was the lob rate I would have liked. As it now seems there isn't always an offer available, does this mean this loophole is now closed (for me anyway)?

I never thought of it as a loophole as I'm sure Barclaycard made the offer and intended people to take it up the way they did.

My guess is it will reappear, or they will make individual offers from time-to-time.
