I have a barclaycard platinum with no balance and has not been used for some time. I have just rung them for the 6.9% balance transfer and told that the offer does not apply to that account. Any suggestions on what to do next?0

Next week im doing a BT to Barclaycard of £570.....
I was going to go with the offer......0% till Sep 08....(2.5% fee).....
Ive just called to check and iv also now been offerd...6.9% for the life of the ballance......No fee........
My main aim is to clear the ballance of...thats why i took the card and origenal offer.......
If i go for the second offer all it means is iv got a ballance sat on my accout and im paying 6.9% for it.............
So am i doing the right thing in the first place and go with the origenal offer?
Thankyou0 -
The 0% offer is preferable if you intend to pay off the £570 in 12 months. If you pay off at just under £49 per month you will clear the debt at an equivalent rate* of 4.7% (therefore 2% pa less) in that period.
If taking (say) 2 years to pay off then the rate is 6.9% throughout the payments are £25.40
*allowing for the fee.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -

I contacted Barclaycard last week with a simple question about their online banking website (how to export data) and was pushed from one clueless Indian operator to another. For example, they suggested I ''contact my computer technician or Microsoft'' with question about Barclaycard website!!!
I asked them to close my account as I can not accept that level of service. They sent me a letter saying my account is closed, nobody even contacted me to apologize or offer to put things right or attempt to keep me as a customer.
How's that for service.
I wouldn't go back to Barclaycard if they offered me 50% cashback!0 -
For the last year or so, I have made payment by D/D minimum payment on my Barclaycard account. I also made extra payments using my archair banking when my salary was paid, in order to clear my balance quicker.
I now discover that for the last three months or so, every time I have paid extra, Barclaycard have used my "extra" payment as part of the minimum payment, effectively, this means that they are not allowing me to pay more than the minimum payment due.
I was put through to India last month when I called, they gave me a !!!! & bull story - I discover today that it has happened again!
I called again today, went through to India told them I had a complaint, asked for the supervisor and after waiting a long time ..... was cut off!
I redialled, got India again, asked to be transfered to the UK, was told that wasn't possible and I have now sent an e-mail direct to Barclaycard asking them for an explanation.
The thing that really makes me mad is that I have used this method for AGES, the fact that I now seem unable to ..... makes me wonder if this is another ploy to get more money out of us? Because for sure, they don't seem to want to let me make additional payments!
Lastly, I have a M&S card that I do exactly the same on i.e, don't use the card for purchase but just to clear debts off at 6.9% for the life of transfer and guess what... THEY LET ME MAKE THE EXTRA PAYMENTS.......urgggg!
I AM REALLY, REALLY ANNOYED!0 -
I have had a Barclaycard (for my sins) for some 18 years or so now but have on occasions completely paid off any owed balances as well as racking up quite hefty amounts in owed credit.
Currently however, I have a zero balance and have done now for the last 4 months or so. Upon hearing the loophole information, I thought it wise to transfer another balance (on a card which currently charges 15.9% or so) to the lifetime rate of 6.9%. To my shock however, I have had the transfer request rejected as I 'do not have sufficient Barclaycard usage history' and therefore, my account has not got any interest rate or balance transfer offers at present. What a load of cobblers. I cannot believe I have been a customer of Barclaycard for such a long time, having probably spent hundreds of pounds over those years on interest and yet, they would prefer me to pay interest to another card company.
Has anyone else experienced this shambles of a ruling recently? Any suggestions what I should do (except the obvious - cut the ******g card up)?
Thanks
Hi Kempy17,
I have had the same encounter recently with Barclaycard and I was equally annoyed. Have you tried since 2007 to obtain the same deal? I wonder whether Martin is aware of so many people trying to get the 6.9% deal but so many failing. Have you managed to secure a similar deal elsewhere?0 -
Me too, very annoying.
I have a large balance on one Barclaycard which I called the other day about reducing the interest on, I always pay the minimum on time and they told me there are no offers available when I asked to go through to retentions she said she could not put me through but if i wanted she could close my account!
Now I have a morgan stanley which just got switched to Barclaycard in Sept 08 had £400 credit for the past yr limit of 6k, just phoned to ask for the 400 to be refunded to my account, and asked about the BT 6.9% apparently the indian gentleman told me there are no offers available on this account, because I dont qualify for any!!!!
What a bore dealing with Barclaycard!!0 -

When you speak to the Indian call centre request to speak to the card retention team and you will probably need to ask them more then once as they seem to think that all that team is for is to close the account down. I just spoke to the team and when my call was put through a very nice english lady asked if i wanted to close my account and I said no but I would like to transfer some balances accross at the rate of 6.9% even though I do not have any special rates on the account. She said she will look into increasing my limit and transfering the balances and will call me back in a couple of days. Here is hoping;)0
