If you're in any doubt as to whether a site is genuine, try to log in with a completely incorrect password. If it's not genuine, anything will work because they don't know what they're expecting.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Dont log in anything - dont click on the link either! NOT EVER!!!!

You are confirmimg your email address is real, you are also under threat from spyware and other malicious bits and bobs if it is not real.

The best way is to type the main web address into your browser and go "the long way round". Access your accounts from there.

Some of the more recent scam emails (not necessarily ebay/paypal ones) have been trojan/keyword loggers. They work by getting unsuspecting users to visit a site, they don't steal passwords or information they just load a virus on the computer and record what you are doing so they can access your info later.

Like Charlotte says never click on anything, if a mail suposedly comes from paypal or ebay and asks you to click on a link then send it them at their spoof address, it is better to be safe and not click on anything.

Some of the scammers are trying to keep one step ahead of users, keep yourself safe at all times.

Got an email this am in my spam folder, supposedly from ebay. Thought it was dodgy as I'm not registered with ebay with the email address its been sent to.

Have forwarded the entire email to ebay.

The email warned me that I have made attempts to log into my account several times and now my account cannot be used unless I follow the link provided and update my personal details.

The worrying thing is that it said if I attempted to log into my account it will be suspended. For a split second I thought what if I do log in and its a genuine email I'll lose my account and 100% feedback, I'm an experienced ebay user and it scared me albeit for a split second. My concern is for those who aren't aware and do what the email says.

Thanks to sites like MSE and ebay Help I didn't fall for it.

Thanks to everyone contributing on this site, it's really helped me

    Rolland "

THEN IT ASKS YOU TO LOG INTO YOUR EBAY A/C THROUGH THE EMAIL

REPORTED IT TO EBAY, AND APPARANTLY THOSE WHO ARE LOGGING IN TO THIS EMAIL ARE HAVING THEIR COMPUTERS CRASHING

I've moved this over to this main sticky thread on spoof emails.

    Possible spoof warning -
Booked last week for a forthcoming e-bay University day. Payment confirmed by online Banking and Paypal checks. Then received non-payment e-mail, (NOT via My Messages-the bonafide e-bay messaging site), purportedly from organisers. Sent everything to spoof site. This morning payment confirmed - but once again, NOT via My Messages. In my note to Spoof report, I expressed concern that ebayers signing up for Uni. days might be accessed. No response yet and spoof site itself was 'inaccessible' for 17 attempts. Worrying...they usually send an acknowledgement, then a more targeted response(often badly written).

  • Had a spoof email this morning from paypal, forwarded it straight away to
    ebay.

    Look out for
Any email claimimg to be from paypal or ebay that does not address you by your user name.
Ebay and paypal always send a copy of their emails to your messages in your ebay messages folder, if there isn't one then the email is spoof/fake.

Do not login, report the email to ebay via
    https://www.spoof@ebay.co.uk

  • I have just received an email supposedly from 'PayPal'

Dear PayPal member this email confirms that you have paid LUXURYWATCHESINC (sales@luxurywatachesinc.com) $190.85 USD using PayPal and goes on to give shipping information and gives a name and address of someone in Beverley Hills.

I have not bought or seen this item and this is the first I have heard of it.

It then says if you haven't authorised this charge to click on link below to cancel transacation and get a full refund! I have forwarded the email to the spoof PayPal authorised transaction and Ebay addresses given on this thread. Do you think I should go into my paypal account and change my password?

I feel so angry that people can get away sending spoof mail like this!
  • Forgot to say I have checked my ebay account and nothing in my ebay messages from PayPal.
