Why would I deny whether Italy's debt is x, y or z? I don't believe the opinion that the EU, or parts of it, is in a 'death spiral' because of Italy's debt or banking problems. And as I think the opinion is silly, for reasons I've explained, the idea that there's a trail which takes us from Italy's debt to wishing to leave the EU is spurious.
You think 'death spiral' is apt - I think it's hyperbolic nonsense.A_Medium_Size_Jock wrote: »the fact it contains?
If you cannot get that correct what chance the rest of your supposed argument?0 -
Here's the latest from the ONS:UK inflation surprises with slowdown, easing pressure on Bank of EnglandThe fall in inflation was the sharpest between any two months since February 2015
*Disclaimer*
Inflation is and always has been quite volatile so yes, it might again rise just as conversely it might again fall.0 -
ilovehouses wrote: »If you think the difference between 'the fact is' and 'the fact that' makes a difference then you've lost the argument already no matter how many winks you insert.
Talking of which it was "the fact it contains", not "the fact that".
Other people can read you know.0 -
ilovehouses wrote: »Here's Steve Sedgewick's opinion. The subject of discussion.
Can you now see the point about the use of the words 'the fact that' does not transform an opinion into a fact.
The subject under discussion was my previous post - as said before, other people are quite capable of reading too.
Yet again purely for the purpose of clarification my post very clearly said:A_Medium_Size_Jock wrote: »the fact it contains?
Your reply:ilovehouses wrote: »Giving an opinion but preceding it with 'and the fact is' doesn't miraculously turn opinion to fact.

Since then you have backpedalled and continued deceit and misdirection.
Now please cease such behaviour which only furthers the appearance that you are doing no more than attempting what you yourself deride:ilovehouses wrote: »An attempt to stifle debate on a debating board. Shame.
ETA
Just for clarity should anyone not by now be so bored to tears that they still want to read the article I originally linked to, the article is certainly not preceded using the words "and the fact is".
Feel free to look for yourselves.0 -

The debate was about whether Steve Sedgewick's opinion (dressed as fact) was valid. I argued it wasn't because evidence of an EU country doing less well than others was indicative of nothing. He wouldn't argue the US was a basket case based on Mississippi's economy so he shouldn't do the same here. Lazy hyperbolic journalism.
Your supposed point has already been attempted in # 1494 and subsequently rebutted in # 1495 so why try again?
Sadly it seems I must repeat:
"Now please cease such behaviour which only furthers the appearance that you are doing no more than attempting what you yourself deride:"ilovehouses wrote: »An attempt to stifle debate on a debating board. Shame.0 -

For saying your finger spends most of the time shaking like a leaf above the report button you're pretty free and easy with the insults.
Try staying on topic.
Just telling someone they are not on topic does not make it so; as the saying goes "methinks thou dost protest too much".
For anyone still interested after this game of virtual ping pong:setmefree2 wrote: »Part 2 - since we seem to have lost our other thread.
So what happens if we Brexit?

Such ping pong actions are at least partially why the previous thread was closed.
Should a poster really be allowed to do the same with this thread?
Does anybody even care enough to look at the similarities in terms of not only belligerence but in the sheer refusal to cease despite being repeatedly shown to be wrong?
My apologies to the thread OP and others subjected to my responses to the incessant barbs of such posters but at least you may now judge for yourselves just who is attempting to "stifle debate on a debating board".0 -
Pong!
More of what we already suspect; Dutch fishermen are worried about Brexit.

On the BBC's Daily Politics show, the Australian High Commissioner scorns the Europhile view that Brexit will lose trade as a result of no longer accepting free movement of goods and people.
