Becs, That's a good idea about putting stuff in the bottle.

The thing with the tube - bracause it's a bit like a cone (smaller at top) I had to pad out the inside of second tier with 2 open nappies to fill the gap but it worked. I cut a temlateof card and wrapped it round both items and fastened it with cellotape. on template, you have to cut the bottom slightly curved or it looks like the leaning tower of Pizza!!!LOL

Becs - comp cut out again!

I want to do all the same sort of style of cakes but a variety of colours , toys etc, but I want to have everything inside the same to make it easier.

Are you doing that or are you doing every one different?

    Hi Moonpenny,

AT the moment I have done them all the same on the inside then just changed blankets, muslins and teddies for each one. Just thinking may try and expand a bit if I do the big craft fayre, looking difficult though as won't be able to get the friday off work so would have to persuade Hubby! hhmm wonder how likely that would be!

Well such a lot can happen in a weekend!

I met up with my Godparents last night for dinner and my Godmother is a fundraiser for a local hospice. We got talking about the nappy cakes and I showed her some pics and she was very impressed. They're organising a ladies day in december including a shopping event and she said they were looking for upmarket stalls. She thought they would go down very well, said would need to do about 40 items varying from the cupcakes to the 3 tier ones. Said they have VERY deep pockets and should sell the 3 tier for about £70 although would need to use higher qulity products. She's going to let me know more next week about the cost of the stall but she didn't think it was much and they then just take a percentage of takings for the hospice.
She also said when we have the website running they will do a link from the hospice page to mine where I can do a particulr design of cake and include a donation of each one to the hospice. So definately have to source some nice teddies now and clothing.

Bellag, done a cake today and Ill admit Ive used yours as inspiration! Liked it so much, hope you dont mind. Its for a mate so Im not planning on selling it (actually making 50p profit on materials, lol).

Question though, how do you do the sock roses? Mine are pretty bad, lol. And how did you attach them to the cake?

Becs, What a fab turn of events!!! You must be over the moon!

I was thinking of doing a more "luxury" one when I have got a bit of a collection together. Saw some lovely photo frames yesterday but at £3 and £4.99 - can't afford them. I think best bet for quality clothes is Next, but having said that - there are some gorgeous "outfits" everywhere even Asda if your not buying in pkts. That's what I would do.

Spent all afternoon trying to get some decent photo's of 2 cakes but can't get light right, or background colour etc. It's driving me mad!!!
  • Brilliant news Becs just what you need to get your cakes out there in the public eye.:j

    Hi,

It would definately be a great way of getting out there. The shopping day is exactly the kind of customer I would need to attract to make a decent profit. They're charging people £40 entry for them including lunch and a fashion show in the afternoon.
I've found a trade website tonight for soft toys and I've emailed them about opening an account but not sure if they'll agree to it as just starting up.
I've looked at John Lewis for sleepsuits and bodysuits and don't look too bad. I'm going to do a bit of thinking as to what I put into the cakes for an upmarket version.

Shelley I too read the candy bouquet thread! Was dying to see the photos of yours when it was done!

  • Hi Moonpenny & Becs been really busy with the cakes recently - i'm averaging about 3 a week at mo so really pleased:D
Couldn't believe my candy bouquet thread was closed I was gutted!! Never mind I'm busy collecting all the bits for it now - i've got the oasis, black living vase, pink cello, liquorice catherine wheels so far. I'm hoping to make it this week because its for my Mum and she is off to Majorca so i can make it and not worry about her seeing it.
I will post pics when i've made it.
We need some more pics on here so keep posting guys :D
