Nappy Cakes

I've decided to make a nappy cake for my sisters new baby (due november) but I need some help with how to make one.

How many nappies will I need? I want to make a big one, probably 3 tiers but don't have a clue :D

If anyone has any pics of ones they've done (so I can copy) that would be a great help!

Thanks for the links, I think I like the look of the ones where you can see the nappies better than the covered ones. I'm off to tesco to buy nappies tonight so have more of an idea of how many I need now.

I made my first nappy cake in February for a colleagues baby and she was so chuffed with it. I only did one layer though, didn't feel confident enough to try several tiers. I will dig out the photo and post on here later for you.

  • I made a nappy cake for my nephews christening. It was three tiered and really easy to make.

I used a bottle to keep the bottom two tiers together and then just balanced the top tier on it. I bought a little teddy bear and used safety pins to secure it to the top. I also used safety pins to secure the ribbons on. I got some gorgeous little wooden embellishments from hobbycraft to add to the front of each tier and also bought some blue fabric butterflies which I stuck all around the cake.

I think I used about 25 size 4 nappies to make it.

I made a nappy cake yesterday for a expectant friend. Its unisex as we dont know yet and is due in next few weeks. Im being orgainsed!!!
I used boots size 2 nappies as they have a good yellow pattern i could use. i used 1 pack and a bit. At the bottom i used a plastic tray. The bottom tier is on top of a baby record book and then hidden amongst nappies are talc, soap, boidy spray, eye lifting cream(needed!), Hand cream. The top is a teddy which sits on a rolled up baby blanket. I got the ribbon and cellophane from a florist -much cheaper! - try to add a picture now, havnt done this bit before!
