Heres my first nappy cake that I have made for my friend. I would have preffered to use plain white nappies but these are the ones shes uses. I cant remember how many nappies I used but I think it was about 50 and there is cotton wool, baby bath, lotion, power and a wee pair of booties inside it.

And before I wrapped it I tried wrapping baby blankets etc round it to just see how it worked but shes not getting the blankets too as they are for us when our wee one arrives.

I tend to use the newborn because the nappies are not patterned and look much better in the cake. But again this is personal preference - do huggies do plain nappies?

Yes the newborn ones are generally plain. But to me it doesn't really matter as every layer is covered either with a muslin. blanket or sleepsuit. its only the tops of the cakes which can partly be seen but to be honest with patterns on or not when the nappies are rolled then you will always see a pattern. I tend to stick to pampers and Huggies nappies as these are the most popular nappies on the market and you never know if the baby could have an allergy to any other kind of nappy (my daughter is allergic to Lidl nappies)

This is one of my cakes ... again no patterns on show and using huggies.

Actually whilst I am here, can I ask how you keep the ribbon attatched to the cake on the back? I notice it is not tied anywhere? do you use a hot glue gun or a glue pen or something? I am using a mix of tieing and also using a glue pen type thing ... however I want to change it but unsure what is best.

Hiya again this nappy cake thing is addictive isn't it, when I first started doing it I spent nearly an entire week searching the internet for the right ribbon etc i think I done my husbands head in lol x But it was worth it in the end because I had 10 orders this week !!! With regards to the ribbon I use florist cream ribbon for the base ribbon and I stick the silk ribbons to that I find it works really well and the ribbons don't move also it allows you to use different colour combinations. I use normal glue and glue spots to stick the florist ribbon at back.
I also make them for 1st birthdays and have delivered 2 already - with bigger nappies and pyjamas etc inside. Here is the Fifi one I made with contains Fifi pj's etc:

Love all your cakes, especially RustyFlange and Shelley3774.
Can you tell me, do you have any problems buying baby products for re-sale?
I wondered if there was anything legal to watch out for!
