Hi everyone, I really wanted to make a cake for a friend but she has told me she is going to use reuseable nappies for her baby. Has anyone ever made a cake with reuseables and if so what did you put in it cos I assume filling it with reuseable nappies would make it very very expensive!!!

    Thank you x

    Morning Mrs Rainmac ;)

You could still make up a cake for her, is it her first baby? mind you even if it isn't then you could still make it up. I used washables with Maddison and always had a stock of disposables even though I had 11 nappies we still used disposables on bad days and disposables were also fantastic for a day out as I didn't have to carry smelly nappies around with me ...

things you could add to your nappy cake should you continue to use disposables with it could ne nappy soak (mothercare) Safety pins although this depends on kind of nappy) a bag for keeping the dirty nappys in if she is out .... I think you really need to find out what make of washables she is using to be honest as they you can work out things like liners and pins etc see what you can come up with then.

I wanted to try a reusable cake but it just wasn't economical on price!

A friend of mine gets them for me i could ask her where she gets them from ;) i might have a spare one if you cant find anything

    hi Julie H

I had a quick trip to Tesco this morning and brought a pack of cupcakes from the bakery in a plastic box that had a hinged lid. The cakes inside were in cases and hadn't made the box messy. So i've washed and dried the box and have removed most of the label so far. The sock cakes look quite good inside and should look really good when I add some ribbon.

It's not the easiest or cheapest way to go about getting a box like this but for a one-off it's ok. Thank you so much for the offer of a spare one anyway - I thought that was a really kind gesture. :A If you could ask your friend where she gets hers from next time you speak to her, that would be helpful if I make anymore in the future.

Photo is a bit blurry because I used Hubby's phone to take it. What do you think? I found the first one so fiddley to get looking right but after an hour of rolling and re-rolling or so I managed to make 4 really quickly.

I haven't taken a picture of them in the cake box yet as I am still battling to get the rest of the sticky label off. If i lose the battle then I may have to try a cardboard cake box like becs suggested.

WOW WOW WOW Nicky321. I love the clothes bouquet. Just when I think i have a handle on the sock cupcakes I now HAVE to try a whole bouquet! Where did you get the big leaves from? Are the yellow/cream bits fake flowers or clothes - sorry, I can't make it out properly.

Not sure how much the cake should be sold for - there are people with much more experience of that on here who will probably tell you. I don't think £15 is too much...? How much did it cost to make? May be add on a fiver or tenner? Sorry for the vagueness.

Personally I would leave the top open and wrap cello around like they do with boquets of flowers

Here is my first single tier nappy bathtime cake, not sure at what price I should advertise it for, could you girls help?

    Contents
    16 Huggies size 3 Nappies - Approx 15p per nappy - £2.40
    2 pairs Socks - Approx 50p each - £1
    1 pair Scratch Mits - 50p approx
    1 Baby Soap - 40p approx
1 Baby Shampoo - £1 approx as it looks like a small bottle?
Baby manicure set - how much was this? £1?
Comb, Brush & Rattle - £1? not sure on price
Rubber Duck - 75p approx? not sure how much you paid
1 Burp Cloth - where is it from? if from £ shop then 25p if from matalan then will be about 70p
Towel & Wash Mit - from asda?? £4

Total approx for ingredients works out at - £12.40 so you could charge about £18 for this, but remember the more you add the more it costs you and for a single tier people will probably want to pay less. so could you maybe take out a few items?

Nicky they are lovely, I work on a general rule of I need to me making at least £5 on top which is pure profit. My cakes are still very cheap and I have just put up the prices. I make a little more profit on them now and they still sell well. Look on the internet as rough price guides and also when you buy your items look around for the cheapest.

I also work on a full price rule
i.e nappies are around 15p each so I charge for 15p each even though I buy them when on offer which can sometimes be as cheap as 8p each but if for whatever reason there isn't a offer on then I know I am covered by this.

JuJu they look lovely. Try some lighter fluid or some WD40 to remove the label but if you use WD40 make sure it is washed properly.
    Have you just used socks?

Thanks Rusty. I was a bit nervous about using those fluids in case they leave a funny smell on the box but I will give it a go - after DS stops trying to learn to fly by leaping off the sofa.

Yep - just used socks. Got in a pickle trying to incorporate a pair of scratch mittens.

Apologies if I don't reply for a bit - got to dash to the post office and DS insists on walking everywhere so I could be gone a while.
