If I need to secure bear I tend to use a kebab skewer minus the sharp edge which holds the layers together and you can prop the bear against it. Usually the bears tend to stay in place without them but sometimes for the more awkward bears I find this works. I also place a small strip of tape on their bum. The layers generally sit together well without a skewer. I don't put items around the cake - I fill the inside of the cake with goodies so sorry can't help with second question.Little Miss Chatterbox

Thanks Shelly, I have nearly finished my first one but Teddy seems like he will fall off if I move it....Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together.0 -

Did you have any luck with the rabbits Crystalclear ? I forgot to say they were with the baby items. They only had one or two left in my local store but if you are having problems getting it I could get it for you and send it to you if you wantLittle Miss Chatterbox

Shelley the cakes are fabulous what kind of stuff do you put in the middle as I like the style of them not being too fussy. I have done one for 1 DIL earlier this year but my 2nd DIL expects in a few weeks and I think she would prefer the simple style but not sure how much I would get in the blanket. Also is that a blanket, white, around the bottom tier or something else it looks gorgeous. I got a fabulous white rabbit from M&S clearance for the top it was reduced to £3 50 and I felt that for a grandchild that was an ok price to pay.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

Aaargh I'm having a nightmare getting bits. I went to Woolies near my office but it's closing down and it's carnage. I did spend £2.50 on some christmas wrapping bits which I could use for the wrapping but they had no laccy bands.
I went to Tesco's which is a HUGE one, but they had hardly anything in the cute soft toys, nor did Asda. I went to the £1 shop too and I couldn't get any cake bases or double sided sticky tape anywhere  I did manage to get one lovely blanket from Primani though :T
I wouldn't mind but it's not like I live in the middle of nowhere. Going to try wilko's tomorrow but I really am running out of time as my friend has already had her baby

Thanks SethsgranI prefer to keep the style simple too as I like them to look like cakes. I saw some earlier in a local shop (quite surprised) and they just looked like a clothes mountain. On the 3 tier and 2 tier I always use a blanket around the bottom layer of nappies - I use a burping cloth for the cupcakes.
In a typical 3 tier I put johnsons talc, johnsons soap, 1 vest, 1 sleepsuit, baby blanket, approx 40 pampers nappies, scratch mitts and soft toy and a bath bomb for mum. I also occasionally include baby rattles.
I place all the goodies in between the nappies so they are not visible until you "cut" the cake. I handmake a card which I then use to list all the ingredients.
My mum said about the toys in M&S they sound lovely. We live near the M&S outlet so may pop up to have a look.Little Miss Chatterbox
