Welcome back Bellag! I was intrigued about your tutoring website. What do you teach? Can I ask – Do you find your getting more orders for cakes with a website or as before, word of mouth etc?

    Hi Moonpenny!

I tutor A level Biology mainly but also GCSE sciences and Year 9 SATS, I'm a teacher having a career break to raise my little boys till they are school age. I'll probably go back to teaching after that. I was a head of Science at a local secondary school but was never seeing my kids as I was working ALL the time and so I thought enough is enough and my kids come first!
I have a tutoring website and a teaching website www.worldofteaching.com that I set up with my husband, hence being able to set up the babycakes. The worldofteaching site has google adds that generate a fair amount of cash for clicks- pays our mortgage some months :D !

The shop is a dream that i will never pursue lol

i bought some ribbon today _ i'm sure i paid too much at my local shop as i was nearly £6 for 9m i bought 3m of 3 different kinds of ribbon. i have loads left but at the time i couldn't decide exactly what i was going to do and wanted to make sure i covered myself incase of any accidents lol so bought enough of each just in case. i can't decide whether to take off the booties or not but for my first cake i'm really pleased. its for my friend who just had her baby girl Olivia on monday after having to go for ivf. theres a bottle of champagne in the middle a bottle of baby lotion and baby bath (both johnsons) 2 hats, 3 vests, a muslin, 2 long sleeved tops and the booties. along with this i have added in a £20 mothercare voucher so she can get what she wants for the baby. i removed the back to front blanket and put on a furry one which i liked much better - so what do you think of my finished first attempt?

Just completed another blue 3 tier, for the friend of a friend.

I finally managed to get some of the elephants from Asda (at long last).
I can't believe how well they sit on the top - I have always used teddy's that are a bit bigger.

Also used one of the fluffy blankets from HB's for the 1st time, although a pound cheaper, I think I much prefer using the Asda ones. They seem to be a bit more supportive when wrapped around the base.

Getting a bit fed up now with the same ribbons and embellishments, think I really need to go shopping for some new ribbons, to jazz them up a bit.
Hope this one doesn't look too plain.

I think you have overpaid for your ribbon as you say but then unless you plan to make plenty sometimes it works out cheaper in the long run. I buy by the roll now to cut down on excessive costs.

I think the blanket looks so much better and I think your cake looks perfect! well done you :) you should be proud of yourself :)

I love your cake. I have also just finished my first one. I went to a Florist suppliers (a bit like an Aladdin's cave lol) I asked for ribbon thinking they would have a good selection but it was amazing. I bought 100 metres of florist ribbon for £2. I also got silk ribbon for £7 for 20 metres I am away back to get some bright orange and yellow satin as I am just not 100% happy with my cake yet lol

Rusty - I am too scared to attempt the cellophane on my own so I am waiting for hubby to help me.

i wish i had shops like that here. i had the choice of 3 cream ribbons, 3 pink ribbons and that was about it really. i live in a small town and we don't have much shops never mind a choice of shops. it was the same when i went shopping for my snowman soup ingredients and i ended up using big marshmallows. if i didn't leave it till the last minute then i would have ordered from ebay or bought the next time i went to aberdeen shopping but thats about 120 mile round trip!

I have only found this thread!
I have had many positive comments from the nappy cakes i make, they are always well received. These ones posted are beautiful!
Every one I have sold has brought another order, i use my website for people to see my work, instead of sending them photos and prices. I have photo albumns that I use for my potential customers, once they have shown an interest.
    Good luck!
I would love to take a look at your web site if you have the link

    Great cakes everyone
