:T Very pretty - I like the flowers on this one. What type of blanket is that? Not one of the fluffy ones from Primark?
What I like about these cakes is that each one is unique and they are all nice

Thanks. The blanket is not a primark one but one I had from my stock which is simply a Asda fleece which costs £3 ... they do pink, cream and blue :)
This blue one and the neutral/yellow one are to be wrapped and put in the shop window. :)

The teddy's I got from Toy's R Us, 7.99 euros (ouch a bit steep I know), and sorry no I didnt knit the sweaters, can just about do a wonky scarf lol.
The nappies were only size 2, so it hasnt turned out very big.

The first pack of nappies I bought were really white, hardly no print at all, so this is why I stuck to size 2. The second pack I opened are now coloured with mint and peach ...... just my luck. So next time I will buy size 3, which will hopefully cut down on the amount of nappies.
Hi Candy I always use Pampers size 2 nappies for that very reason they are really white. This week I had to buy size 3 and I am really unhappy with them. You can see yellow and green at the top of the nappy and I feel it really spoils my cake. I'm going to take it apart because I really don't like seeing colour on the nappies.
I found that using size 3 didn't affect the amount of nappies significantly. Ended up taking all the size 3 ones back to the shop and exchanging them for 2's again.
I know the 3's last longer but I really wasn't happy with the overall look so I will not use them again.
Well done on your cakes they are lovely.:T

Hi, I've just made my first nappy cake. I made it for my friend who's baby isn't due for another couple of months. I started it now thinking it wise to allow plenty of time to practice and get it right. I was pretty chuffed with my first attempt and have now been bitten by the nappy cake bug! I have also seen loads of other ideas of what I would like to do for my friend instead so am going to have a go at selling this one to pay for me to do another for my friend. What do you think of my first attempt?
I also had an idea of bands to use to roll the nappies, I bought a bag of horse plaiting bands in white! Nice and small and white is really discreet. £1.15 for 500 and saves trying to find all the little ones in the mixed bags!

  • Becs - That's gorrrrrrrrgeous!!

Another vote here for size 2 nappies, there's really not a massive difference in size. Not sure a nappy cake really needs to be 'longer-lasting' as such - the mum will be dying to use the lovely fluffy blankets, talc, etc and putting the teddy in the cot! Awww!

Loving the idea of the 'colonia'....Mmmmmmm! :D

  • Can I ask how you stop it from moving around on the cake board/different layers, beautiful cakes btw, just getting ready to do my first!
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p

Can't see exactly what is between the bears legs but it all looks great
Where do you buy horse plaiting bands in white?
    Thanks

Hi, thanks for the lovely compliments.

Crystalclear it's scratch mitts rolled into a rose between the bears legs! :rotfl:
I bought the horse plaiting bands from a local saddlery. You might even get them from somewhere like pets mart as they do some horsey bits. I only thought about them after I'd made this cake but I have tried rolling the nappies with them and they're perfect size.
  • I have been watching this thread for some time and finally I have someone who I can make a nappy cake for.I love some the the ones posted on this thread, so well made!

I just had the urge last night to do it and made DP take me to Mr.T's to get some nappies and bits, it was put together in last than an hour and I feel needs some tweaking. I can't decide where to put the hat, so there are pics of it in 2 different places.

    What do you think?

Just had a look at the links to check they've worked and the pics have come out sideways, they aren't like that in the album! Sorry everyone!
