  • Bella. I would imagine they will be far much easier to transport if they are wrapped., as it makes them more secure and less chance of toppling over.
and like shelley says hopefully you'll be rushed off your feet taking money and orders
    GOOD LUCK

    Thanks Chatty and Shelley.

Yep- i will wrap them all but leave two or three unwrapped. I may take a couple to make there too so people can watch/see what goes in them? what do you think?

Which types sell the best do think? one, two or three tier? need to decide how many to take of each.

So far i have done, single unisex, blue and pink, two tier in unisex, pink and blue and same with three tier. also the winnie pooh and a bathtime cake and my christmas cake. I am also going to make some 'luxury cakes' this week with john lewis/M&S stuff and a couple of designer ones with stuff i picked up in sales.

thanks for your help with this and sorry for all the questions!

Bella. from talking to people who shop at craft fairs this is the general view.
they go look for "that something different gift"
they stick to a limited budget
they prefer that special homemade looking gift

At this time of year i would imagine people will be looking for xmas gifts so the xmas cake should go down a storm. But also bear in mind how buyers would have to carry the cakes home with all the other things they may have purchased, so consider offering a delivery within a few miles radius.
also would be a good idea to print of some pictures so people could take them home and show friends/relatives who they think would also be interested to place an order by phone with you.

these are only my opinions and other may not agree but thought it may help you

    Rusty...

How much are the blankets in Primark? I normally end up paying about £3.50 - £4.50 for them at Matalan / Asda.

Any other tips? Think we need a list compiled!

So far we know the best blankets come from Primark.
What about the others though, like toys, nappies, clothes etc?

Personally I LOVE the muslim cloths and packs of baby sleeping suits from Asda. Such good value :)

The Primark blankets are £3.00 and I really do love them! :j

thanks Chatty lol! - will do soon as i get some dotty cellophane. Its in the post.

Now what do you all think should i wrap all my cakes for the fair or leave them unwrapped and wrap them if they want it wrapped. Also should i just take samples of my cakes and then just take orders for free delivery as long as its local? ...dunno never done a craft fair before..anybody any ideas? I know Shelley does them. I may not even sell anything but will be good for advertising I guess. I'm so excited but havent a clue- I've never really been to a fair apart from a school fair!

I think you should leave a couple unwrapped. However this is personal preference as I always have people coming round the house and asking what they are so I remove a tier and just show them as it gives them the chance to be nosey!
I think Shelley did a fair, and I believe she took a selection of different cakes then took orders on the day aswell.

    Good luck with it.

Hi Bellag I found the 3 tiers and cupcakes were the best sellers. On the day it self the neutral was definitely most popular. I wouldn't make up any on the day because believe me you will be inundated and just won't have the time. I didn't even have time to eat a sandwich for lunch and most of the time the stall was 3 deep in people. I bought perspex display holders and displayed a ingredient list for each cake. I also had a banner made which attracted peoples eye.
Heres a pic of the set up for you:

Make sure you have plenty of business cards to give out too. I nearly ran out !!!!

Pyjamas – Pack of 2 co ordinating pairs - £4 From 6-12 months+. Available in pink or blue
Scratch mitts – Pack of 2 – 50p Available in white.
Baby socks – Pack of 5 - £2 Available in multitude of colours!
Hooded Towels - £3 come with matching flannel – Available in pink, blue or neutral

    Asda:
Fleece blankets - £3 Available in pink, blue or neutral
Sleepsuits – Pack of 3 - £5 Available in pink, blue or neutral
Sleepsuits – Pack of 2 - £4 Available in pink, blue or neutral
Socks – pack of 5 - £2.50 Available in pink, blue or neutral
Hooded towel – matching face cloth - £4 Available in pink, blue or neutral
Vests – pack of 7 - £5 Available in pink, blue or neutral
Smartprice vests – pack of 3 - £2 - £2.50 (these are plain vests and are same quality of normal ones!) Available in pink, blue or neutral
Bootees - £2 - Available in pink, blue or neutral

Winnie the Pooh items – Asda always stock these and the prices always vary dependant on the stock. So you would have to look in the store for prices. Available in pink, blue or neutral
Matalan: Sorry I have never bought anything for my cakes from here, However I know Moonpenny does and also a few others so maybe they would be kind enough to let us know some details then I can update this post.

    Dunelm Mill
Fleece blankets - £1.99 Variety of colours.

Nappies – We all have the internet so before you go out and buy look at the supermarkets websites (Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Asda) they will all have some variant of deal on the nappies. Also check boots and remember club cards and advantage cards! Most nappies at full price work out at 11p each. However you can get these as cheap as 8p a nappy if you shop for the best deals. I recently managed to get them for 8p a nappy so my cake worked out to have just over £1 extra profit on.
Also look for deals on the clothes, check out sales, most places have vests and sleepsuits in the sales and in Asda you can pick up sale sleepsuits for £3 and also packs of 7 vests for £3.

    Baby toiletries
Again check out supermarkets etc, however if you have a poundworld, pound shop or anything similar also check in here as locally I can get the same items from there and obviously they are £1 instead of the £1.70-£1.80 from supermarkets.

    Last but not least Pricing.
Work out how much per item you have paid. i.e 7 x vests from asda = £5 so 1 x vest = £0.71. Always charge this price even if you had the item from a sale. The same rule applies with nappies then you will never be at a loss.

Hope this helps someone .... right now I shall go and make a nice hot cuppa tea as my current one is sat on the side cold!

Wow everyone! I go away for a week on holiday and come back to this enormous thread with loads of newbies and lots of fab cakes!

Just a quicknote on fleece blankets especially for those of us without Primark Dunelm Mill are great. They do baby fleece blankets for £1.99 and are gorgeous.

BabyElla you're in Cambridgeshire same as me and there is Dunelm in Huntingdon and Peterborough so not sure if you're near either of these. I've started using their blankets and am really pleased with them.

I love ALL of the new cakes on here but especially the Christmas one Bellag and I completely agree about the Asda thing. I think their stuff is fantastic but feel if I'm selling the cakes that things ought to be either a less known brand or a brand PERCEIVED to be better quality. The ones I've done for work and things I have used Asda for but am about to do some quite upmarket fairs so need to look at contents more carefully.
